Sniping in Halo 5 is so frustrating. I always used to be okay at sniping in halo but now Im so horrible at it. I don’t like the sniper scope either. Any tips on getting better? I don’t know how people are so good at sniping on halo 5.
I’ve never been good at sniping in past Halo games. I’m still not good at it. It seems about the same to me.
Actually this games sniping is almost as easy as halo2’s. There is a ton of magnetism.
The trick is just to get the reticle at head level using your right stick. Then use your strafe to line the shot. Pull the trigger as you sights swipe over the target.
The hitbox and magnetism is VERY generous! So you dont even have to hit the head. The upperchest, neck, and a small area around the head will all count as headshots.
Use the force
I used to not be able to use it at all but in the past few months I’ve been getting some half decent no scopes.
My (personal) tips for sniping:
-
Unless your target is very far away, never use the 8x scope, it can mess your aim up if you use it when you don’t need to.
-
(Kinda)Lead your shots. A lot of people forget/think its useless now. Even with a hitscan sniper, leading your shots a bit will make you more accurate(just don’t lead your shots like its projectile).
-
Pretend it’s a different weapon. Although personally I don’t follow this one tip(even though its one my personal tips) for some reason, pretending its a BR or a DMR can really help your aim.
There is some kind of trick where you almost guaranteed a head shot, no joke, its flawed. I suck with it though, so I go for body shots with the sniper. You should look up how to be a pro on youtube, or go to halo tracker and ask a pro on there
I got some tips:
- Only use the maximum zoom on targets that are very far away (and unaware of your presence). The first zoom is fine for most engagements, as it is equal to that of the DMR. - Try to attack from less-than-obvious spots, but do attempt to maintain the height advantage. - Pick off the most dangerous foes first, then kill the rest. - Descope frequently to check your surroundings. It is recommended to bring another weapon better suited for close range combat should you get ambushed. - Unless you are certain you can make the shots, relocate every time you shoot your sniper to keep your foes guessing. - Try to keep your sniper’s crosshair around head height to increase the chances of a headshot. For the Binary Rifle, focus your crosshair around the stomach.
I’m not the best sniper, but I find sweeping my shots a bit seems to help when my reticule is near my target’s head.
Trust me, Halo 4 and 5 are the only Halo games I could snipe in, these two games have extreme bullet magnetism, it’s ridiculously easy to get headshots with them!
Halo 5 sniping is 56x easier than halo 3 sniping. Play custom sniper games maybe that would help. The more you use it the better you might get.

SNIPING IS ALOT EASIER IN THIS GAME THAN MOST HALOS BEFORE
Sniping is easy just find a spot where you can snipe but still be hidden and wait for an enemy
I have always sucked at sniping till Halo 5. Saying that I’m not exactly good now but I find it a lot easier than previous games. My only advice would be aim for around the head (dumb advice I know) and try hitting people who aren’t moving. I found playing Super Fiesta helped my sniping alot!
Personally, I improved my sniping in H5 the moment I realised I was over-zooming. If you are on the first level of magnification, and your reticle is red, don’t zoom in again.
Don’t know of how much use this is to you, OP.
Thanks for all the replies.
Can you get sniped at infinite range?
I’m actually doing really good, and you don’t actually need to hit them in the head!! Thanks so much!!

I’ve never considered myself good with the sniper and would always pass it up. Now I grab it every chance I can. Here’s some tips:
- make a point to go into a tight octagon map with a buddy and practice snap shots. - when you do pick it up in matchmaking stay on a part of the map where your targets will be on the same plane as you; for example on torque, i like to stay on the bottom floor looking in mid. Why? Because I can easy snipe targets when i’m not moving my crosshairs up and down and the bottom floor is the largest same plane area on the map. Every map has these. - position, adding too the point above, make sure at least one teammate is behind you. Doesn’t need to be nearby, but you want to avoid being flanked, if you are, that octagon practice will come in handy (as long as your on the same plane) - adding on the above two, trust the flick of the stick and bullet magnetism. When you get the red reticle (if on the same plane) you will just about gurrantee yourself a headshot. - All the above doesn’t matter if your not in the habit of keeping your reticle perpendicular to your Spartan. By no means am I saying I’m some excellent grip it and rip snip snapper, but those above points have helped me use it effectively. Remember, if you only take out 2 before you go down that’s +1 for the squad.
