Snipers too strong?

Hey guys, a lot of you played the Beta - so like me.

In my opinion, the snipers are waaaaaaay to strong.

Not because of their range or the damage, it`s because they can paralyze infantry units some seconds and that they can be invisible of they do not shoot.

The rangers of the covenant/banished “just” have a mid-range and a really weak weapon.

Snipers (UNSC);

  • +high-Range - +Damage - +more Damage through research (after all I remember) - +camo
    Rangers (Covenant/Banished)

  • +mid-range - -less damage - -no camo
    Personally I think that the Snipers/Rangers should have

Snipers (UNSC);

  • +high-Range - -DMR at the begin (but you can produce them at the beginning (cost more then marines of course) - -first research a sniper (more damage and high-range) - -Second research more damage - -last research maybe something like C4 which is good against vehices/buildings (yeah I played a lot of Star Wars Empire at War) - -no camo - -higher costRangers (Covenant/Banished)

  • +mid-range - +shields at the beginning but will cost a lot more then the normal infantry - +On their first level less damage - +second research invisibility - +last research beam rifle and higher range [of course it should cost many ressources)
    Any better ideas? Or what do you think?

Yes. There’s also an old thread I made about Banished infantry being sub-par and gamebreakingly bad.

I still can’t post lazy links (sigh), but here you go: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/forums/38bd6e2ebbb14e5b9b359bb029588800/topics/the-problem-with-the-raid-camp/989b7432-a102-445e-a9d2-ef99461b2fa4/posts?page=1

Much appreciated.

Would have been useful if you added your opinion in the beta feedback thread 2 months+ ago and considering the Halo Wars 2 beta was technically an alpha, balancing was never set in stone. Now we can only wait and see how it looks in the upcoming beta before opening our mouths. The second thing I want to mention is that Atriox and Cutter are not supposed to be equal.

Cutter has superior infantry whereas Atriox has superior building destroying units (Locust, Brutes & the artillery unit) combined with great utility like the huge AoE invisibility unit. There is no reason to reinforce the weakness of Atriox faction while keeping his factions strength and like I said, no faction is supposed to be equal in all areas.

This is how RTS games work regarding factions.

Think I already postet it there ^^

Yeah like previously said Cutter has always had a better infantry then the other factions so if it’s unique to him then there is no problem. You can expect Anders to have a much better Airforce and anti-air abilities with the cryo-bomb. Isabelle is a wild card so idk.

I think you miss the point.

The main problem is, that the covenant infantry didn`t even have a good infatry unit against other infantry and snipers are waaaay to powerfull

The only unsc you and anyone else has played is known for having the best infantry. So yeah I do get your point and I told you why.

At this point we don’t know if the shipmaster or the other brute will have a great infantry and professor Anders may have a terrible infantry.

The factions and leaders are not just reskins each one has a weakness and a strength and cutters has always been infantry.

The factions are balanced by there weaknesses and strengths.

And thats the thing - we know nothing #JonSnow if the snipers will there now just for Cutter or for all UNSC-leaders - and theyre still OP with their invisibility effect - even if Cutter is the only one who can have them.

It`s really sad that we know nearly nothing about the in-game so far.

Human ground troops have always been better, its a good thing

Human Marines are more than weak compared to the Elites/Brutes. So I think its not a good thing. (I still dont know why in Halo Wars is that “each unit from the UNSC is better then the same covenant unit” what is complete wrong).

UNSC Marines each have better training and all round better equipment compared to regular elites/brutes and grunts the only thing elites have going for them is shields and physical strength, but if you have to get into melee combat things are already messed up

Having only Elite squads with the new shipmaster would be awesome

Agreed, mabye as their ‘odst’ upgrade equivalent [upgrades grunt squads to elite ranger squads or something]

That was only in Halo Wars 1. In HW 2, that dynamic has been scraped.

I dont know, marines were fairly powerful in the beta and i managed to win most fights with just them and the odd support vehicle

We will know more in the upcoming beta because if the sniper is a cutter only card then there’s that.

Also yeah the invisibility was kinda wonky my troops would spend 5 mins trying to kill them in a tower. I think if they switched it from a passive ability to one you have to activate then that would be better.
