Sniper/shotgun flashlight

Should the flashlight on snipers and shotguns stay in halo? I don’t really like them because then the enemy knows your position and they aim for you the whole time. Thoughts?

it’s a flash light on shotguns but on the snipers it’s the reflection of the lense of the scope. it’s to cut down on camping in bigger maps. I think it’s a good thing.

I like it for the shotty. Don’t really care on the sniper. :slight_smile:

I like it for balance, since they are both amazing weapons. Just try to keep them as your secondary so you’re not walking around with them giving away your position or what gun you have.

I honestly want the lens flare of the sniper and purple light of the beam rifle removed. It completely gives away where you are, and really ruins the snipers ability to kill people as they can see where you are. I know it is still extremely easy to get the kills, but i just think it should be removed. However, the binary rifle should still have it’s laser sight, but not be a piece of -Yoink- and insta kill instead of holding it on the enemy for a second.

The lense reflection and purple light on the Sniper and Beam rifles is annoying to snipers, but helps to balance the game quite a bit. Especially important in Warzone where you can have multiple snipers running around. More than once I’ve spotted it and dodged just in time.

I hate that lens why don’t we have a version with out it

That’s the point. If you might recall, those two weapons are the weapons that campers use. This is to prevent that. You want to use a shotgun? Use it like a sword and pull it out at the last second, don’t walk around with it. For the sniper, simply shoot, kill, move, repeat.

Halo never needed them before, I honestly don’t see why those are even a thing. If you’re being scoped by a sniper, you don’t deserve to be warned, that’s the point of the gun.

Same with the shotgun, although the slower pace of previous games allowed you see how a person is moving toward you with a fat rifle-looking thing, whereas Halo 5 is faster so the light may be more necessary.

Camping with a sniper is completely different to just camping. Snipers aren’t supposed to run around and take people on, they should be staying back supporting their team. And if the sniper is camping, you can easily sneak around them and kill them.

I’m okay with the light on the shotgun, but I can’t stand the glare on the sniper & beam rifle.

IMO, it’s almost as bad as when they put grenade indicators in halo 4.

What’s worse is that you don’t even have to be looking at them to see it. A sniper just has to be aiming near you and you’ll get a white glow on your screen. Ridiculous.

I liked both. I don’t feel like they nerf the effectiveness of either weapon either, especially the sniper rifle.

The purple beam was here since Halo 2, unlike the trail from a sniper rifle bullet, the beam don’t last long but is very easy to spot, it’s the exact opposite for the sniper rifle, the trail is harder to see but last longer.

I guess the beam rifle in Halo 5 use some kind of holographic scope.

The binary rifle though. What in earth made them go for that. It’s so annoying to get kills with it now, as you have to hold it steady for a second to get a kill. The glares of snipers are really annoying, I agree.

The indicators for shotgun and sniper need to be removed! The Sniper ALREADY has tracer streams that help people track where the snipers being fired from. It’s been in the game since H1 and never needed further implementation.

As for the shotgun, it used to be that a person would have to analyze the stance in which the Spartan approaching them was holding a gun in order to access the danger of the encounter and it made it difficult to read whether it was ok to engage in close or from a distance but now they just see the OBVIOUS and glaring flashlight and they know it’s a shotty.

Shoot, kill, move, repeat? Have you seen the spawns in this game? As a sniper if one were to be mobile while sniping they’d surely come across the enemies respawn nest all at once and die.

Sniper rifles aren’t meant for mobile killing. They can but its not as effective.

It’s for balancing purposes, no more. No less. It helps pro players and casual players alike who are getting picked off, call out to their teammates the general location of a sniper. And it also helps with the flow of the game by trying to get everyone to be moving and be proactive. It helps the game be competitive and gives a two-way interaction between opposing teams.

As a sniper, you can’t just sit still. It’s more effective to move around and change locations every once in awhile. The lens flare can also play to your advantage by letting you throw off opponents to your location granted: if you constantly change position.

All the power weapons have context sensitive highlights that help let people callout easier. IE: sniper flare, shotgun lights, energy sword glow, ect.

I personally like it on the shotgun because now we can have dark atmospheric infection maps. If infection decides to come around soon…

And to those saying they stole the flare from Density, no… Just no… It’s been in competitive shooters for a long while.

But there needs to be the option to turn it off in specific game modes.

I think the lense flare is a good thing because it adds a nice layer of balancing to the sniper guns. As for previous halo, who ever managed to get the sniper and a decent position on the map first, he/she was so damn OP. Where as it’s for now, the lense flare prevents people from just camping on one position and forcing them to be on the move. As for the shotgun, imo it’s a good thing as well because I couldn’t tell the difference between an normal AR and a shotgun when challenging an opponent. All in all i appreciate the changes due to added balancing of the weapons!
