Is it just my game, or the Sniper Rifle in Halo CE is completely broken against Flood forms? No matter how many shots I shoot at them, they just won’t die. Even the AR is more effective when dealing with the Flood than the SR!

It’s actually intentional. The reasoning is that given that the Sniper Rifle has a lot of penetration power, the rounds pass through the decayed flesh and liquified organs of the Flood, pretty much rendering it completely useless.
Worry not, the Beam Rifle in H2 and 3 don’t have this querk and is entirely useable (namely useful in Quarantine Zone). Whether the SR has that querk in H2 and H3, I don’t know, but given that we can use the SR reliably against them in ODST, it’s possible that it doesn’t.

Yeah this was the case in original CE. Oddly enough the Flood novel even pointed it out.

Good point. They need to patch ODST so the Sniper Rifle doesn’t damage the Flood.

I believe this was the intent in the creation of the game oddly enough. Sort of strange… but yeah that’s right, the sniper is no bueno against the flood in CE.
Pretty sure thats because the H3 sniper rifle does actually hurt flood. The flood in h3 are generally fair squishy to just about everything.
In CE meleeing a flood is a terrible idea, while in 3 it 1-shots just about any flood form.

It does do damage. I think it takes 24 shots to take down a combat form. There is a damage multiplier table for each bullet type against each enemy type. I think it’s set to 0.05x for a sniper round hitting flood.

I found this out back in 2001, tested it out several times to make sure I wasn’t doing something wrong and immediately realized how balanced the campaign in CE really was 
If you are referring to the sniper left for you early in Keyes, they are supposed to be used against the hunters and elites…giving the flood an advantage over you!

Really?! After all these years, since 2001, I just automatically assume the SR doesn’t damage them.
