Sniper Glare

Greetings fellow waypointers as you know we’re super close to launch so discussion around the forums has been pretty dry as we don’t have much new info to argue over BUT fear not I have something for us to discuss :p. In Greenskulls new Warzone gameplay he gets some nice sniper action in, and I noticed that the sniper appears to have glare now. At the 6:00 mark and the 6:42 mark you can clearly see the glare from the weapon so what do you guys think? Yay or nay does this belong in halo or wut :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice link, nerd!

Seriously though, I think it’s a nice touch. No worse than the laser dot from TF2’s sniper rifle, at any rate. I’m slightly concerned that the glare activates from too far away though; half the screen was lit up before he even got his reticle over the opponent. I can see that getting real annoying, especially in a 4v4 snipers match.

And incidentally, I think we have our first argument in for why removal of friendly fire may not have been a great idea. All the idiots standing in front of the player trying to snipe would’ve been out of the way REAL quick had they been taking damage.

Useless feature. Halo doesn’t have people laying down in bushes with ghillie suits hard-scoping people like BF4 does.

I think it’s really stupid but don’t care enough to argue about it so that’s that.

It wouldn’t be a post by me if it wasn’t missing something glaringly obvious…

But what about the realism?

Aside from being slightly blinding, I don’t consider it a problem.

Yay giffy :stuck_out_tongue: those are my thoughts as well.

What realism? Real sniper scopes are coated in material specifically so that they DON’T glare. Glare is the opposite of realism. 500 years in the future the UNSC is too stupid to use a basic method to mask their scope reflectivity?

It’s just a shameless and pointless example of copying something from other games purely for the sake of copying.

Have you even played battlefield 4? Or speaking from a few match experience

Sarcasm my friend sarcasm the realism argument is never valid when discussing video game features. This is obviously just a tool 343i implemented to give players an idea of what that dirty blue at blue base is doing standing there all shady like.

BF3 and BF4. More BF3 obviously, mostly because it had maps that weren’t complete garbage. But yes, clearly I’ve played enough to know what I’m talking about.

By the looks of it you only really see it when they are looking right at you. In BF4 the scope glare was visible over a very wide area. At least that’s what it looks like to me.

The effect itself is very tame compared to other shooters namely battlefield I don’t think it’s that bad.

“I don’t care enough to argue.” he says

When someone can kill you in a single shot from the other side of the map, I find the warning before the bullet hits to be an alright compromise to the killing potential. At least at that point I know it’s coming, or can possibly dodge it.

Sidenote: the scope is lookin real nice.

I’t doesn’t look game breaking and seems to be just a way to identify what weapon the enemy is using like the flashlight on the shotgun
if people complain then of course it would get reduced or removed so I don’t see nothing wrong with these types of details :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree I’m a fan of the Halo 5 sniper now, haven’t really liked a design since like CE the sniper has always just been ok to me but I like this one.

If? Oh you must be new around here :stuck_out_tongue:

I can’t even begin to describe how behind the times I am.
Like, if it’s not Halo and it came out at any time after 2012, then it’s brand spanking new to me.

> When someone can kill you in a single shot from the other side of the map, I find the warning before the bullet hits to be an alright compromise to the killing potential. At least at that point I know it’s coming, or can possibly dodge it.

I guess it’s nice if you’re like on Blood Gulch and someone is hiding behind a boulder, but overall I feel like you’re going to see the person and get instant killed by them regardless if the flash exists or not. Couldn’t really care less about it.
