Snip3down's Thoughts on Halo 5

This video, Snip3down’s video, is definitely worth the watch. The video is titled “H5 competitive settings, improvements, and moving forward” and that is exactly what he talks about in the video.

If you don’t know who Snip3down is, he is a player for the pro team NV. He is widely considered as one of the best pro Halo players of all time so he probably knows what he is talking about when it comes to competitive Halo.

What are your thoughts on what he says in the video?

I agree with him, the whole Motion Tracker, it is just plain unfair, like in WZ Assault, I just camp around a corner with a Blaze of Glory, w/ Advanced Sensors, and just shoot them.

Warzone isn’t meant to be competitive though. it’s a social playlist.

I don’t have time now, but I’ll have to watch it later.

Right. Snip3down is discussing the competitive aspect of H5, not the social. He isn’t saying remove it from Halo. Just from competitive.

Don’t know if I will watch the video as I am over watching what others opinions are. my opinion on competitive halo is this remove the motion tracker or at least put it back as it was, get rid of Spartan charge and the power weapon call outs.

Did you ever watch Spartan’s video? He says exactly what you say.

I actually think the radar and weapon call outs add competiveness. With the radar, you can be prepared for a gunfight or surprise someone you knew was coming. With the weapon call outs, it gets players in that area at the same time to compete for those weapons.

I know, but still. Breakout espicially, the range is ridiculessly inconsistent. The Motion Tracker just lets you see them while getting something.

Weapon callouts are a crutch for players who don’t have the ability to learn spawn times or have map control. the motion tracker is useless as it is now so to me either get rid of it or make it useful.

I don’t think I have.

It can be considered a crutch, but it still makes it more competitive. Plus, the guys who use it as a crutch are all ranked similarly, so it’s not like an onyx guy who times everything will have to go against a bronze guy who’s using it as a crutch.

The radar is too small, but I’d rather they bump it up to 25 meters than remove it entirely.

I agree with literally everything he said.

I’ll paste my reply here:

I think most of this would be excellent for regular settings (18m radar is terrible), which should be separate from competitive settings. As we know, competitive settings are very strongly reliant on team communication, which gets kind of thrown out of the window when there’s a radar. The only two things that I disagree with are the automatic weapons nerf (they’re finally useful in their niche range for once) and the power weapon call outs. I always liked how knowing the map and its spawns added a level of strategy to the game that is no longer there in Halo 5.

I think 343i were trying to reach a middle ground with the 18m radar, but ended up creating something that isn’t really what anybody wants.

No.

Giving information that would otherwise not be known to the player without awareness and communication is terrible for a competitive game. Where is the strategy? Having reliant info like radar in a comp game slows it down way too much. There’s a reason it is off in every competitive FPS on the market.

I know they’re useful now, but this is more to make the AR more relevant. The SMG still has a ton of range and they’re only a small margine where the AR can beat the SMG. I’m just looking to increase that margin. Same goes for the storm rifle.

You say no weapon call-outs add more strategy, I say having them adds more competitiveness, which are both valid points. I think they found a middle ground where things like power ups and lower tiered weapons you have to time (for the strategy part), but the higher tiered weapons are called out (to add to the competitiveness).

I don’t want to rehash what I just said to Hotrod, so it’s there if you want to read it.

“There’s a reason it is off in every competitive FPS on the market.” I thought you wanted halo to be a trend setter lol.

But this incorrect.

Read me. This is from Team Liquid’s annalist, Tyler Hicks. At the highest level, having radar slows the game down in anything. There’s a reason higher level players make the settings and don’t use default, and it isn’t to look edgy. There are huge benefits in team building and awareness that should be a must in any competitive game, Halo going back to what it started and what has been proven to work is the best option.

God forbid they add weapon callouts. “Oh em gee et maks et 2 ez 4 teh newbs”

Seriously. If you take issue with it you are being petty.

Whatever. That’s just my opinion, but I’m not a higher level player. If those guys think that’s competitive, then by all means, do it, but keep it in the MLG playlist.
