The whole smurfing thing has started to get out of hand lately. I almost can’t play an arena game without at least 1 popping up. Whether they’re on the other team, or my team it really dosen’t matter, either way they’re ruining the game for those of us who are actually in that CSR bracket. I get that you’re supposed to play better players to improve your skills, but that’s not gonna happen when it’s a onyx or champion level player against a bunch of lower tier golds. It becomes highly unfair, and there’s nothing to be learned from the game. Honestly it’s the equivalent of a 20 year old adult going to a middle schooler to pick a fight. That’s illegal in real life and smurfing shouldn’t be allowed in the game. And yes, I know there’s no real way to enforce such a thing, but still. It’s just pathetic, and sad. Go back to your own CSR tier and quit picking on those of us that are less skilled. I’d put some examples in here as a link but I’m not sure if that counts as calling other players out. Maybe a monitor could clarify that for me?
Just report them. New accounts are more susceptible to the reputation system. So it doesn’t take nearly as many reports to get them into red rep where they can’t play matchmaking anymore. It’s a crap fix, but it’s all we can really do until it’s addressed.

I’ve been reporting them, but they seem to just be multiplying at exponential rates…

Each person can create up to 5 for free. Blame Microsoft for that dumb policy.

Oh, god! What were they thinking!? 5 separate accounts is more than anyone needs!
How do you know they are smurf accounts? I’m ranked at gold 1 for slayer but when matched against gold 1s and silvers I destroy them. But my rank is held back because I get matched with true lower players causing us to lose. So I’m sure it makes me look like a smurf.

A policy that allows multiple people within the same household have their own Xbox live account without paying for it is dumb?
Just because there are people who abuse the system doesn’t mean it isn’t a good policy on MS’s end.

I realize that that’s why it was implimented. And I know that it’s mainly on the sad individuals that take advantage of it to beat up on the less skilled, for lack of a better term. That’s why I said in the original post that I know there’s really no way to stop it from happening.
Come on. Those little blue creatures with their silly hats didn’t do anything to you.

I wanted to link to a great example of it, it was extremely obvious in that match dude was a smurf, (he even confirmed it in a pm post-match), but I’m not putting the link in until I know for sure that it would count as calling out another player or not. But basically if they’re SR 6, get 29 kills and like 2-3 deaths, and their service record shows that their gamer score is 30, then yeah it’s a fresh account created to play lower tiered csr’s than what they should be playing.
Let’s not forget, that regardless of skill or rank, all ranks, RESET EVERY MONTH. Maybe if it was every three months it wouldn’t seem SO bad.

Been saying for a while now that ranks should only reset quarterly. I barely get ranked before the reset happens.

Well I mean there wasn’t really anything wrong with just letting people play on your main account.

It’s Gargamel’s XBox Live Account

How to tell a smurf account:
Firstly - their name is often an Xbox random generated one, such as “descendingorange8593040”. Two random words followed by a number. Also it could be something a bit more obvious - smurfxxxx or boostxxxx, maybe even in the same theme as the friend they’re boosting.
Secondly - check their profile. Usually they only have 2 or 3 friends, and only play Halo. They’ve created a smurf account just to rank up and boost their friends.
Thirdly - they’ll usually have a low experience level.
Lastly, they’ll usually be with a teammate that’s much higher rank. Such as a silver playing with an onyx. But their KD will be similar as they’ve both a similar skill level. Really they’re both high onyxs, but by using a silver or bronze account they get matched up with golds and platinums. So they’ll both get 20+ kills and very few deaths. Pretty easy to spot once you’ve seen a few of them.
As for you not being able to rank up, but “always going positive”, sorry but that’s just not true. If you play enough games and consistently go positive, you’ll rank up. Sure, you’ll lose a few games on the way, but think of it as 2 steps forward, one step back. I play solo a lot, and always push into Diamond.

Well sure for Halo, but there are other games that actually allow split screen… anyone who wants their progress tracked can easily create an account to use.
Smurf accounts have been here since Xbox Live, but yea its a horrible thing to run into, and it does seem to happen more in Team Arena/Team Slayer then any other game type…and its super easy to spot. I report them and move on and if im playing with my fireteam they report them as well…ruins the game for a lot of us who don’t have 12hrs a day to spend playing Halo to be pro at it…i play after work for an hour or 2 just for fun and relaxing…
Smurfs…?
It’s annoying to play with them, for sure. There’s not much to be done about them though, since “smurfing” isn’t forbidden.
What about smurf accounts that are just playing solo? Or with their lower tiered friends? I’ve ran into that a few times it seems. Pull up their ranks and all are bronze or silver but one guy just absolutely destroyed.
