So, LukeTheNotable came out with a video a while back (about a year ago?) looking at how “smurfs,” or low level accounts, seem to get into games faster (almost immediately) than higher ones do (it can take, like, as 30s longer?). The video is a touch old, so I was wondering if anyone has done any further research/knows why this is, has any information as to if this gets worse with higher levels and if 343 addressed it, or is it just a thing that we have to deal with?
The game doesn’t match people based on their SR rank. It matches people based on their MMR level in a playlist. Low level accounts most likely don’t have a high MMR because they haven’t played much so their pool of people to match with is higher. A high ranking player like an onyx or champion would have less people to match with because there’s less good people in this game compared to bad ones and less populated playlists would make this issue even worse.
Anyway, I haven’t watched the video, but it’s probably not really relevant anymore considering all the changes to the matching system that happened between now and a year ago. New accounts would still be able to find a game quickly, but the system should place them in their correct matching sooner compared to a year ago which means high skilled players will eventually have to wait longer even if they’re a newer account.
The time it takes me to find a match vs the time it takes my wife is relatively the same. I think the time of day you are playing is a bigger factor at this point
Imo it takes as long for high and low skill

Yeah, smurfing sucks in all scenarios but it doesn’t suck as bad in Social. At least I don’t lose CSR there.
When you people using smurfs to play on Social, you know something is wrong.

Basic of it is less higher players less lower players. I believe if you are Diamond 1 you’re in the top 10 percent of that playlist. You can see once you hit high onyx tier that goes down even furhur.
I think that all is about the profile data, if you already have all in the game your file is going to be larger and heavier (Megabytes) than the new ones (Kilobytes)…
Unfortunately there is probably nothing 343 or anyone for that matter can do about smurf accounts. It all falls on Microsoft allowing people to make virtually endless accounts. Until they make some sort of regulation on it I wouldn’t get my hopes up on not going up against smurfs in the future.

Of halo 6 has a giant surge of population (one can dream) it’ll help the problem tremendously just due to only so many people use smurfs. Halo 5 population is just small for a main stream game that it seems like it’s rampant everywhere

Yeah most definitely and I can’t really blame people that much for smurfing with today’s player count. I’m playing against diamond-onyx players for the most part and the wait time is ridiculous some times so I can’t imagine what it’s like for champion tier players.

It’s garabge with a team of four it’ll make us wait 2-5 minutes sometimes per match

Yeah it takes me close to 2 minutes even playing solo luckily most of my friends are silver-gold players so I get in pretty quick then lol.
