I know some high ranked people make smurf accounts in order to find games and just play the game. The MMR/CSR system works pretty well and places them accordingly no matter if it’s a new account or not.

Not really, because you can tell when they’re on a smurf and the quality of the montage suffers. This is why MintBlitz’s “montages” are generally frowned upon.
It doesn’t really make a difference to be honest. I’m nowhere near a good player (the best I’ve ever done is Platinum 5), but I ranked one season on my wife’s account (who had never played a game of H5 in her life) and the first two or three games were really easy, and after that it put me against the same level of players I faced on my account.
I still think people that make smurf accounts are scum, and them, their consoles, and their IP addresses should be banned from Halo entirely. But 343 has done as good of a job as they can in identifying them and putting them in their correct brackets as quickly as possible.
The real problem to me are the games without SBMM in them like BTB and Quickplay. To me those are just unplayable. I get so tired of going against Onyx level players that can survive an entire magazine of bullets, run through two grenades and get punched without dying then hit me one time and kill me it’s not funny.
