Could be part of the firing animation.
I doubt its a smoke grenade, and I still don’t believe the pistol is a flame pistol, but the AAs have been known for a while. However, we only see any evidence of them in campaign/spartan ops demos, so it leads me to believe that the harder to balanced AAs(auto sentry and regeneration field) are exclusive to campaign/spartan ops.

It looks like a Fuel Rod explosion fading away. And the “flame” from the pistol just looks like the firing animation.

A ten foot long firing animation? Highly unlikely. Also, when has the Fuel Rod looked like an extremely thick, rolling green fog that clings to players that pass through it?
I guess you could call the green fog a smoke grenade. Its will bet its a EMP grenade.No damage (cannot kill you) but will drop your shields,drain AAs and stop vehicles.

Dude. There are no exclusive AAs, AAs are in loadouts that carry over from War games to Spartan Ops. So Auto Sentry and Regeneration field are in War Games.

The EMP grenade lets out an orange-red field that stays up for while like a power drain. This green smoke is not an EMP grenade but maybe a Corrosive grenade. And plus EMP grenades let out a discharge not smoke.

I have to agree with you on this, plus you can see the Promethean pistol, most likely its some kind of energy.
