Smh. kids these days can't talk smack anymore

As a FFA player mainly I miss the trash talk sometimes. But now a days every one will always go overboard with it.

Can’t say I’m offended by trash talk, but I don’t play Halo to hear it or 90% of the other chat that has little to do with the game so I tend to go into party chat.

I never send people messages or call the a bad name but I remember k played black ops 2 and it was like search and destroy or whatever so when you died you were out for the rest of the round. I would killed myself and then when the enemy team started to die I would be really rude and I kept saying they sucked and they for so mad at me and that was really fun. I bet people are going to read this and be like wow he is a horrible person haha.

As usual, something that use to be ā€œcompetitive talkā€ has been turned to t’s lowest form of insulting people and being vulgar. I prefer ā€œactions speak louder than wordsā€ approach.
Now ā€œtrash talkā€ is just a euphemism for ā€œI feel totally inferior to all, so I will make myself feel superior/better by belittling everyone one elseā€ā€”also know as ā€œSmall Man Syndromeā€.

People don’t trash talk anymore because they get reported by people who get offended or lose the match.

Well in Halo 2 with the proximity voice (anyone in motion tracker radius) could hear everything you say, Effective creative trash talking can be distracting and throw people way off.

Also you could lie about your intentions and deceive the enemy team by making plans with your team, then do the exact opposite. I kindof miss this feature.
My role in playing halo is to disrupt and annoy the enemy team. So if they get mad I was effective.

I don’t get mad from anything that happens online, It does not affect me in real life.

There’s trash talking, and then there’s ā€œtrash talkingā€. It’s all fun and games to say " hey bro, I’m gonna 360 snap shot you with this sniper and there’s nothing you’re gonna do about it", but when it goes into talk about human physiology (might’ve spelled wrong, oh well) and saying you banged my mom…that’s not trash talk, that’s just you having the mentality of a 12 year old. There’s a fine line of what trash talk is, all I’m saying. Like one has already said, 90% of people who trash talk go past that line.

I’ve heard and said any and everything under the sun. Nowadays I don’t don’t because well I just prefer not to curse anymore. But honestly the meanest thing anyone ever said to me was on Halo 4. I know, right? Not Halo 3!
We were in a duel for the last kill. I had a BR and he had a DMR. This was before the Turno update so my BR was a 5 shot kill. He killed me, won the game by a bullet or two and when we get to the lobby he says ā€œā€¦hmmm, looks like I have the better shot.ā€ I swear on everything I’ve never been angrier in my life lol. But that’s how trash talking it done honestly. Looking back, I still get angry that he beat me but I applaud him on his ability to get under my skin with such a simple phrase.

> For those who competitively played Halo since Halo 2, when there was no party chat, kids used voice masking, and exploits set the men from the boys (double shooting, BxR, etc), the community was much more brash, in your face, and talked trash regardless what team you were on. And now there’s a topic about crying over some mean messages? I’m sorry, but you’re playing online in a competitive shooter and you don’t expect some trash talk? either play a more casual game like Battlefront or play a more casual mode like Warzone or BTB.

calling out users or other threads isnt the best way to start off a post

flaming and non contructive posts of any kind will be locked

Anyone who likes competitive halo should remember ghandi. That was the way trash talk should be.

The art of trolling and smack talk at it’s finest

You got it ND5OOO. That was the intent of communications back then too. People used it to effectively organize their team and then use it as a counter measure by providing false intel to the other team. Was great when you could get the other team to think they were outflanking you just to realize too late it was a trap! Priceless…

I won this match on Slayer and did pretty well. We were down and managed to turn the match around at the last second and won 50-49. It was pretty funny to hear the other team in the lobby afterward. They were totally salty about it and called us garbage, even though we won. It just made me smile and laugh.

see, that’s what i love about Halo. screw all this party chat and muting. Yes, i play with my own friends, but we don’t go into party chat because we like to talk to our teammates and talk smack to the other team.

I beat someone who then calls me garbage? I say yes! I’m terrible! I’m the worst player ever!.. and yet I won.

ppl can’t come up with anything clever. when they do that I challenge them 1v1 (hell, I’ve challenged entire teams 1v4 and still gave them fits).

Last time I told people to not be so sensitive about trash talking, I got banned. But OP, it’s true. Trash talking has always been part of competitive games, and more people should be insensitive to it.

The only issue I would have with trash talking or swearing is in the case of younger children. It really irks me when children are exposed to profanity or things that may ā€˜corrupt’ their youth. I have a significantly younger brother, and would not be fond with him hearing profanities being spewed left and right. Only multiplayer games he plays are the fun non competitive games one would find on steam, and if he really wants to play Halo online, I usually accompany him and mute everyone. This wouldn’t really be a problem if ESRB ratings had meaning to today’s parents; children shouldn’t be playing games like GTA 5.

Here’s the thing about trash talking it’s an art form, it’s banter it need’s Wit, Timing, Charm, Badassery, if you don’t have you can’t talk smack, you need to be respected to talk smack otherwise you’re just talking nonsense and no’one is going to like you or find you funny for example one guy kept bugging me and he was in my mate’s party and within 5 seconds of him talking I immediately said in a deadpan unimpressed tone that he was more generic then white bread and he knew he couldn’t compete if he already got served in 5 seconds so he actually was friendly and we were fine.

You need a style of smack talk my dry unimpressed sarcastic tones works great cause you’re the reactionary, you set the jokes up and smack down and everyone likes it, if you’re not smart about talking smack then why are you trying to talk smack?
