Smh. kids these days can't talk smack anymore

For those who competitively played Halo since Halo 2, when there was no party chat, kids used voice masking, and exploits set the men from the boys (double shooting, BxR, etc), the community was much more brash, in your face, and talked trash regardless what team you were on. And now there’s a topic about crying over some mean messages? I’m sorry, but you’re playing online in a competitive shooter and you don’t expect some trash talk? either play a more casual game like Battlefront or play a more casual mode like Warzone or BTB.

I use a mic, often.

I talk trash for FUN.

Anyone ever play any pick up sports? (I know not to compare sports with video games, but both have a competitive team aspect) You talk -Yoink-, but after the game, it’s all good. Yes, I’ll -Yoink!- you, shoot your body, and use every curse word in the book, but after the game, I’ll send a “gg” if it was good game and invite them to a game if they were decent. Made some good partners this way too.

The worst is when I get hate mail from someone, but they couldn’t say it to me during or after the game since they’re mic was plugged in the entire time. seriously?

I’m probably in the minority in this because everyone else is in party chat, doesn’t talk in games, or plays casually.
But if you do play with or against me, I’m actually a really nice guy.

Who cares if you get an offensive message, it’s the internet, don’t expect people to remember you’re a human.

I don’t see what is so fun about trash talking, but everyone enjoys different things. I don’t see the fun when someone talks about my mother in a very derogatory way, since that’s not how I was raised. It shows who has class or not. You can be competitive without trash talking anyone.

exactly. do these people think they’ll remember what they sent someone 5 minutes after? hell no. relax and move on, it’s just a game.

btw. I never report people for hate mail, that’s just grade school whining.

I don’t get it either. I don’t understand why you’d want to say something that might hurt someone, but it will always happen online and in the real world so you should be prepared to deal with it.

steve- it’s the PC world now, a decade ago, smack talk was how you knew who you’re friends were and who could mess around with at LANs and online.

For the record, the ce community, we all smack talk each other NON-stop, but are all friends outside the game. In fact, we still find time to lan and actually have fun #beachLAN

I get super salty in some matches because I’m a very competitive guy, I might send or get some hate mail. But I won’t care in two minutes, and I would assume that my enemy wouldn’t either.

that’s fine.

Here are my 5 rules of trash talking I abide to:
no grandmother/mother/sister jokes.
no jokes about genital size.
no homophobic remarks.
no racist jokes.
no jokes about disabilities.
Why? because I don’t know that person so I can’t talk.

EVERY thing else is fair game.

I don’t trash talk because win or lose I’m not going to waste my time with some elementary school bs

It’s sad really.

People get offended in Halo if you mispronounce their gamertag like its a threat XD

Yur mum cant smak tak -Yoink!- de der…
Seriously though people are getting way to sensitive these days and making it other peoples problems to fix not their own. People -yoink- talk each other all the time it all a matter of just not taking it to heart.

This should be the official trash talking rule set. It’s kind of awkward when a certain friend and I get a your mom joke after owning some people in Doubles. Why is it awkward? Because his mom died of breast cancer a while ago. It makes me mad that people don’t think about that stuff, I don’t mind getting told that I’m a noob or that I suck, but stuff like your mom jokes are stupid.

Yeah. I don’t get why people do mom jokes if they don’t even know my mom.
How that’s supposed to offend me is beyond me. XD

tbh, my mom has like 16 inch biceps and could probably kick a lot of ppl’s -Yoinks!- irl.

HA! Love it. I agree, trash talking is almost non-existent. We used to play in game chat H3 just to talk smack on people.

it’s a lost art form now. :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s trash talking, and then there’s the lowbrow ridiculing that is usually seen (heard) in lobbies or post match. They are not the same. Some guy repeating, “yo, you -Yoinking!- suck” is not trash talk

your off-limits list is 90% of what people use to talk trash.

back in halo 2 days a friend of mine would just accept whatever was said and roll with it. A big one was calling someone gay- so my friend would say, “yeah. I just slept with your dad.” or something like that.

I preferred to tell people they smelled nice, “you smell like flowers. so pretty.”

Your mom is a nice lady.

OT: I flame ALOT when I game, but I mainly enjoy myself when playing, it’s just some banter, nothing serious.
I know exactly what you mean with the old days, when i was 10-12 i had the most fun ever playing Halo 2-3 online, played hours on end, learning new english swear words and what not, people were never butt hurt, and don’t even mention ‘‘reporting somebody’’. People report you for seriously nothing these days, and they would almost be rewarded for reporting people. You can’t have any fun on a game without getting the ban hammer these days, pathetic what gaming has become, this isn’t the law that I have to abide.

This.
There has been so much of the vulgar/threatening/cheap stuff that people turn off mics.
I leave mine unconnected most of the time so I don’t have to listen to a lot of that.

If I want to play a little more seriously I usually turn my mic on and try to chat with my team, but I am more of a casual player. (I would possibly consider myself competitive at times, but clearly don’t have the skills for it).

So most of the “smack” talk I witness is the occasional celebratory corpse crouching. Most of the time it seems like it is just some kid that is trying to get a rise, but there are times where I was the victim of some truly skilled play. At that point I am usually saying, “Well played.” and understand at that point the deserved teabagging.
