While I like the Smartscope in Halo 5, I would still prefer to see the Classic Zooming return. It was a very unique element of Halo and it’s a shame it is removed from most of the weapons in Halo 5.
Smartscope adds accuracy improvements to your weapon which is something I would like to see removed or nerfed because Halo is not the same FPS as any other and by doing this it removes something unique from Halo.
Classic Zoom, I won’t buy the game if there isn’t a toggle for it. I stayed away from CoD for 14 years because of it, why in the hell would I accept it in Halo. And don’t tell me I’m bad at it either I’m already a Semi-Pro rank in the Beta. I just don’t like the feel of it and makes me want to zoom in less. There was no reason to change this, I hate sprint to but this pisses me off far more than sprint.
if by sone miracle someone at 343 reads my post please, if you ever cared about the community at the very least give us a toggle, so we can choose how we want to play this game.
If the ADS/Smart scope gang feel they are at a disadvantage, thats their business and I doubt that many competitive players would choose to have their screen blocked anyway.

Yeah toggle would be go…oh wait. The thing is smart scope isn’t just classic zoom with a different animation, it’s actually ads. You would be at a disadvantage agaunst people who use ads becuz auto weapons never even had zoom, bit now they have ads.
I don’t care. In 18 hours I haven’t ssed with ar or smg. And I refuse to because its ******* repulsive to me as a “purist”.
If these people want to use it thats their perogative. I don’t want to see my dmr screen like that. I hate br screen.
I dont want that crud in my screen so give me an option to remove it. Lets test 343’s nerve. If its the same lets see a toggle.
If they refuse that simple request we’ll know whats what.
Sorry if I sound passionate, but its because im sick of 343 pushing me and loads of other fans away with all their new stuff. Its time after all their talk to walk the walk. If you care about your community, and my custom make a product I’ll be happy to use.
classic scope for sure, and by far. some weapons smartscope takes up way too much of the screen, while others seem to affect the weapons accuracy.
the pistol for example, the reticle is almost right above the gun, covering anything below (this is one of the reasons i hated hand cannons in destiny), it just doesnt feel or look right and it actually makes it harder to aim than just hip-firing.
the DMR is another good example, with a large part of the screen covered by the metal around the scope. i feel way too ‘exposed’ when i zoom in using this weapon because enemy players can pop out from behind an area thats covered by the zoom and i’ll never see it coming.
the assault rifle’s smartscope makes the weapon seem like it has more kick-back than in hip-firing making it seemingly harder to hit a moving target.
What the smart link scope is in the actual story is not a actual scope as we are used to seeing in modern tech, but a camera on the gun you are using to zoom in with. Your visor becomes a monitor that displays what your gun sees from this camera. This, in essence, makes it so you are not seeing from your face, but from the end of your gun. In the past games, it would take up our whole screen because that is what we were seeing through the gun. Basically, a spartan using the smart link scope could aim the gun at a blind spot, such as behind the spartan, and still have full view of what he was aiming at. The targeting system we use to tell us where we are aiming while not zoomed in also uses the smart link scope. It sort of acts like a laser sight of today, giving the spartan a clear idea where his/her gun is pointed with little effort. In fact, if we were not locked into looking exactly where we were aiming, we would see this in action. The smart link system’s sole job is to remove the point of iron sights, which includes taking the time bringing the weapon up to your face and being unnecessarily blinded by your own weapon as well.
The “smart link” we have now isn’t actual smart link. Its traditional iron sights, which we dont need. As I said, a spartan doesn’t need to look down iron sights at all. He sees what his gun sees. I do appreciate the futuristic look, and don’t mind the idea of having both iron sights using the current model AND smart link, but do not give us iron sights and claim its Smart Link when we already have a clear picture what Smart Link is supposed to do.
Both. Or in other words, have you used the Light Rifle? How when you zoom in, it’s like viewing thru near the end of scope so there isnt much screen clutter but enough to make it feel like you’re looking through the scope. I want that style for all the scopes (Sniper can stay as is since it’s basically the classic zoom, but get rid of that bluish filter.)
I hated the DMR scope because the scope takes up like half the screen in the center, I get that it may be like that to ‘nerf’ it’s use at medium/close range. But I’d rather the view be deeper into the scope so that you can atleast see 85% of the screen.
