Smart Skills & Tactics

Felt the need to put this out there since I used to be really good at Halo but it’s been a while since I’ve played and now that they’ve ruined slayer free for all the only fun battles for me are team slayer but you have to play as a team and what you’d think is common sense to many is actually so only to a few so in hopes that i gain some new teammates that know what the hell they’re doing but here’s my tips for success that I don’t see many following:

  1. Get to power weapons and power ups: as a team get to one of the power weapons and then go take the other

  2. Stay by whoever has a power weapon or over shield: staying by over shield allows max use of it’s benefits and it doesn’t get wasted since the wielder won’t be by them selves getting doubled teamed, if you’re by whoever has the power weapon like rockets, sniper, or machine gun if they die you can be near them to pick it up

  3. Stay away from camo wielder: if someone has camo don’t go near them to get their cover blown with a bomb that’s likely going to get thrown your way, just stay back and let them do some work, that’s some easy kills, at the least keep your distance at least a bomb radius away

  4. Don’t bomb and try to shoot through your teammates for a kill: About the most annoying ish ever, come on now

  5. Stay close to teammates: don’t just run off being wild that’s how u get double teamed and frustrated and the game goes south from there, stay together long enough until the team gets a decent lead and then run around all you want going rambo but when your teams losing or the games still close stay together, that allows at the very least a trade off of encounters in which will keep the games close between you and the enemy

  6. Get to the X: get to the X where one of your team members have died in order to kill the one shot that should be near assuming that they’ve damaged them and if you stay close to your teammates you’ll typically always be near them to clean up that assist

  7. Still a kill save a life: don’t sit and hide while your teammate is shooting someone, if I’m in a gunfight I’d hope you’d swoop through and finish it so I can recharge my health and move on to the next

  8. Guard the Sniper: If someone has sniper, the game can go very smoothly if two people guard his back side and one guards his front side it allows maximum control over the sniper and some easy kills or assists as once the sniper hits them you can get the one shot kill with your pistol

  9. Know how to hall a.s.s : Know how to do what I call Hall’n a.s.s (Sprint, Slide, Jump, JetBoost) It helps you move around the maps extremely quickly, very beneficial in the beginning of the match to get to power weapons, also in getting to X’s of your dead brothers in arms for the easy one shot kills. Know how to do that and use it wisely, be careful not to do it running into a group of enemy cause you’ll die or get into a gun fight and won’t have had enough time to use it again in case you need to dodge say a bomb or a sniper being aimed at you

  10. There’s a few other tips I’m not thinking of right now but these are some of the bigger ones, I know you’re likely a god at Halo and laughing at the fact that I made this post but listen, alot of people actually are clueless as hell to these tips and strategies… At any rate if you have a mic and are looking to rank up with me give me an add: KingJam7SinGod

I’ll throw in a tip myself: pay attention to any sounds around you.

Recognizing a particular sound - whether it be footsteps, an Energy Sword humming, or even someone reloading their weapon - can provide an early warning as to where someone is in relation to you and your teammates on the map. This works best if you have a headset, even if they’re a pair of Apple earbuds. If you hear something near you, check your surroundings, radar, and ally service tags to determine whether or not it came from them. If not, an enemy player is likely near you. Prep yourself by quietly getting into an ambush position or pulling out a close-quarters weapon like a shotgun or melee weapon. And those who tend to snipe a lot will save themselves the embarrassment of being assassinated while scoped in.

In stronghold, I always like to stay back and defend the post we have just captured.

Very good tips and ideas. I have some to add that expand a little further.

10. Know when to “Pinch” or "Pincer"
You know that time when the enemy team divided up and you got -Yoink- on because you were shot from all sides? Yeah, it’s annoying but literally anyone can do it. You should do this when the enemy is all grouped up. 1v4 is suicide but 4v4 with a pinch is very effective. You shouldn’t use a pinch when you are down in numbers, or you have map control.

Examples of pinching:

  • Able to pinch - Tyrant - Slayer. My 3 teammates are in red cave and all 4 of my enemies are red snipe and red pillar. I “hall -Yoink-”, so to speak, to red pillar to engage the enemy from behind, getting a full team slay. - Unable to pinch - The Rig - Slayer. My teammates are set up to force spawns at BR. I get an opponent one-shot at long-hall stairs and he backs off to basement. Giving up a power position would give my opponent an opportunity to take over the map. Not pushing allows us to keep our spawn-trap.11. Recognise weapon and power-up patterns
Halo 5’s weapon pads give you a time 30 seconds before the tier 3 power weapon comes up. But you’ll notice that good players know much earlier than that. How is this possible? It’s simple really, the weapons are on a static timing of either “12, 9, 6, 3, 0” or “12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 0”. These are dependent on how powerful the weapons are across the course of the game.

This is similar for tier 2 weapons like the shotgun and hydra launcher. The difference is, when the weapon despawns (dropping it off the map, using it’s ammo then dropping, leaving it on the ground for a set amount of time, etc.) it will respawn 10 seconds later. And tier 1 weapons have no specific conditions, they respawn 30 seconds after they are taken or moved in any way.

Power-ups are interesting. Upon interaction you start an animation. This animation takes approximately two seconds. After the power-up traits apply, take note of the time, the next power-up of that type will be up two minutes from then. Say you grab overshield at 7:42, the next overshield will spawn at 5:40. Timing these is key, delaying the grab is even better.

12. Realise you are better alive
All your teammates are down and 3 are one-shot. You didn’t finish any off for your teammates, great job that’s pretty much 3 free deaths. Don’t add to it. Play your life and cause some trouble around the enemy and delay until your teammates can get to you. You are better off staying alive and making the enemy worry. Sure, it doesn’t always work but trust me when I say it’s really annoying to know there’s still one alive and they could be literally anywhere.

There are a lot more aspects than this but I find these are the most useful, even if you can’t use them every match.

Good tactic but remember to help you team out with call outs and make sure you have a nice spot to defend the stronghold…If you have the chance to capture a stronghold go for it don’t wait…

It’s not my fault that my teammates decided to move in front of me. :stuck_out_tongue: Even though I don’t do it much myself, call outs are always good and try to stay alive if all your teammates are dead.

With any intelligent person that’s understandable that it’s just going to happen now and then but when it’s a repeated offense solely because they don’t know how to better aim their throws or they aren’t playing conscious of their teammates and as if it’s just 1v4 it gets annoying, like I’ll have a guy one shot and some -Yoink!- with a rocket will blow us both up or shoot me dead or lay a bomb right where I’m walking after I just won a gunfight. That’s what I’m talking about, trust me I’ve accidentally done it myself a time or 2 (and literally I mean no more than a handful of times I’m particularly good at my bomb throws even when I’m with all of my teammates and we’re all in a gunfight) but you get the gist.

Well, I wasn’t being serious, but I get what you’re saying.

  • Stay alert. The enemy team will likely split into pairs and hunt you (and your buddy) down. - If discovered, do as much damage possible and try to take your opponents down with you. Have some Plasma or Splinter Grenades on hand. - Reduce noise and attention to conceal your location. In rare instances, the enemy players will start betraying each other, which may offer you the chance to win a match.

You need a squad for arena these days…But if you can handle it go for it.

I personally solo queue all the time and it’s not too bad. Although it does explain me being unable to break out of platinum in previous matchmaking systems. Now I’m confident that I can.

Doesn’t really help to guard one if you don’t get one more. But I see your point. The first one is usually the one that takes longest for the enemy team to take. When the game finally is up with scoring and you see people on your team defending the other point, you can just defend the first one. Sitting there in the beginning doesn’t really help if you’re up against tryhards since they usually go 2 and 2, rushing the first and the mid one.

If you’re alone against 2 tryhards in your base trying to defend, good luck, have fun.

not sure if anybody mentioned it, but constistently trying to keep the high ground and learning shortcuts and jumps to get to high grounds quickly is very important in any halo and especially in h5

Cancel grenade throw animation by switching weapons or dashing.

I didn’t but that is a smart tactic, easier to aim below then above and those shooting above have to worry about you dropping down which would mess off their aiming and give you the advantage plus you can typically escape death easier if you’re on higher grounds, good call bro

I honestly didn’t know that, thanks bro, that actually came in handy my last couple of matches, where I saw a teammate running exactly where I was going to throw it and they were one shot
