The only difference between them is that the smart scope is better looking and doesnt block most of the camera but both feel the same, just change the controls if you dont think so.
I disagree, it threw me off with the br so i hip fire 99% of the time… that said i like it on the dmr/pistol
Objectively false, not only does it obstruct more of view, but it is also noticeably slower to activate compared to normal zoom.
It certainly doesn’t help that a trait applied on a weapon to weapon basis has now been applied across the board. It is ridiculous to claim that smart scope is the same as traditional zoom.
Then to add on to the above, the smart scope also provides higher accuracy and tighter bullet spread which goes above classic zooming.
The Smart Scope (as it currently is implemented) is terrible.
Sigh.
and these are the complete idiots who think they know why people are complain about smart scope.
Smart scope (as in halo 1-4)- did NOT block the screen with the gun/scope.Did NOT improve the accuracy of any firearms, did NOT slow down the reticle movement speed, did NOT improve a gun in ANY WAY, in halo 1-4 smartscope did not suddenly make a gun start having RECOIL, in halo 1-4 scoping in did NOT have a delay added.
This is what separates smart scoping from ADS, ADS modifies the player,OR THE WAY THE GUN WORKS, in combat, smart scoping DID NOT(at least for halo 1-4,) but in halo 5 smart scoping DOES modify the way guns work, quite significantly on the AR and SMG, meanwhile, it also obscures the screen now. there as also a delay between scoping and it actually scoping in, furthermore, when knocked out of scope, you are prevented from reentering it for a moment (to negate its ADVANTAGES) halo 5 scoping is NOT halo smartscoping, it’s halo FLAVOURED ADS!
also, canonically this iteration of smart scope is also stupid, because in canon, a smartlink scope, is effectively a camera either mounted on the end of the gun, or is part of optic system that is on the gun (ala guns with actual scopes like sniper rifle, compared with the m6 pistol) This camera would NOT see from the perspective of BEHIND the scope, you can’t look forward and see yourself from behind now can you?
If the wanted to make smart scope canonically correct, they need to adopt a doom gun style camera angle. it needs to be appearent the perspective we are see from while scope is NOT the shooter but rather the gun. in previous halo this was psuodo achived by the lack of appearent gun in scoped cam, and no real animation to scoping in.
I really like Smart Scope. It makes the less-used weapons in Halo’s past (SMG, AR, LR) more viable.

Honestly, smart scope on the AR blurs the line to much between hip fire weapon, and medium range precision weapon, what would make it more appealing to those of us who want a halo game, would be to remove the accuracy buff of smartscope ar and smg’s, but on teh ar, improve it’s accuracy mildly, on a whole (as in hip fire accuracy) this will allow teh ar to be diverse from the smg, without it overpower the br at medium range.

Someone tested this theory a week ago on these forums and the zoom in all Halo games improved the accuracy of the weapons.
I wont go into my opinion of this feature but its clear, by how supporters refuse to countenance any other point of view, that its not.
I’ll post this every day: let us have a toggle.
I use the zoom in Halo 5 exactly how I use it in the other Halo games.
You’re right. It functions exactly the same…only difference is…smart scope doesn’t feel like halo

Oh man, this guy knows what’s up!! GOLD STAR!!!
The two reason why I hate “ADS” aka smart scope in H5 are:
-
I’ve always hated the ADS “look” in any game.
-
Canon wise it’s so wrong it’s not funny. I really dislike how 343I have pretty much throw canon out the window here, makes me sad…
The solution is easy…just either change it back to the old zoom look OR give us the option to make it look like the old zoom look. Everybody is happy, and everybody wins. Simple enough, but 343I wont do it… If they do I can honesty say I know 8 people who would buy H5 without question.
Makes me laugh how all you fanboys constantly go ‘it ain’t ADS’.
Im not against it, but… IT IS ADS.
ADS = aim down sights
Halo 5 ‘smart scope’ = player aiming down their sights
Just because it may be balanced etc doesn’t mean it’s anything different to ADS.
you say it’s only aesthetic, well that’s pretty much what ADS is, an animation, and it also has benefits such as bullet spread, which is affected by it in Halo 5. Therefore… Halo 5s Smart Scope is not just an animation.
Im just annoyed with everyone obsessing on how it ‘isn’t the same ADS as cod’

Just to point out, that video erm… Shows the traditional Halo aim… It’s exactly the damn same but on the other side mate

Yes and no. this traditional aim IS further back from the gun, and higher, This camera view would be “traditional” halo, notice the height from the gun, the slight ofseet to teh side, the times when the actors feet show up?.The original video IS offset this has to do with 2 contributing factors, my first assumption in teh original video is his camera is mounted on teh side (as is common with picantinny camera mounts, to keep the optic rail clear) furthermore, the slight overhead offset would make me believe he is using a contour roam camera, which from it’s mounting area, to it’s camera lens is offset.

This is where it gets iffy, since only precision weapons have scope in previous games, the minor increase in accuracy on this weapons, are in effect, a null factor, yes it exist, but the weapons are so accurate already the improvement in accuracy is a few percent at best, with full auto the improvement can be tens of percent, or like the AR “unfriggenbelieavble”
> 2533274857857783;1:
> The only difference
There’s more differences than you think. The time spent zooming-in (ie: the amount of time you must wait before you’re aiming down the weapon’s sights) with weapons such as the DMR and Sniper Rifle are increased. It increases the accuracy of weapons such as the Assault Rifle by reducing spread. Recoil is added to weapons to counter the fact that certain weapons receive reduced spread while in “Smart Scope”.
> 2533274857857783;1:
> smart scope is better looking
Completely subjective. In my opinion it looks obtrusive.
> 2533274857857783;1:
> and doesnt block most of the camera
The new ADS mechanic does block out a substantial part of the screen because the weapon’s scope gets in the way. Comparatively the previous zoom mechanic dimmed the screen around the scope, but didn’t outright block great portions of it with a weapon model.
> 2533274857857783;1:
> both feel the same
Entirely subjective. No one cares about what you feel. People only care about the discussion and objectivity of whether it doesn’t negatively impact on gameplay and aesthetics.

I selected Bumper Jumper before I even entered my first match. The points that I have made still stand true.
