Smart Scope Logic AND Resolution to Problem

Ads has come to Halo as we all know at this point. It’s fiction stems from the spartan’s ability to use their visors to zoom in without aiming down a scope or barrel.

To their defense, yes, CE had a pistol without a physical scope and could zoom by using the player’s built in visor scoping ability. So why only do this to half of the guns?

If a spartan can zoom with his visor, why would he need to pull the gun up to the middle of his face and look down a restricting scope on top of his pre-existing HUD?

The loading image for the Halo 5 beta even has a BR without a scope which led me to the conclusion that spartan’s would not need a scope on any weapon. Presumably not even the sniper but for balancing concerns sticking to it’s conventional scoping will suffice.

On top of all of this physical and technological logic, the aiming with the BR, Pistol and DMR in Halo 5 seems quite jarring when switching from hip fire to scoped and back again.

MY SOLUTION:

Make all weapons use the smart scope similar to the AR in Halo 5. Leave the gun on the side of the screen and let our visors zoom in instead of putting the gun dead center of the screen and up in our face. I think this fits all of the required demographics too, such as hardcore fans who don’t want ADS, new players wanting to move the game forward functionality wise and players who want continuity in their game.

I think there is still time to get this done if we can get enough people behind it. I’m currently working on a mock up of the BR, Pistol and DMR using the same smart scope feature as the AR.

I argued that the guns in Smart Scope are too obscuring a view and ruins ones awareness when in zoom view. While I would prefers a zoomed view similar to the transparent filters used in all the other Halo games I observed that 343 realizes that it is a problem to the extent that they changed the way the zoomed view for the AR looks. I would like an option that would allow players to choose smart scope if they want and other to choose a different view. I think the truth is though that if this option was offered that the people that are not using smart scope would have an advantage over the smart scope users. This to me sort of proves the point that smart scope overall is not a progressive element of Halo 5 but is a regressive feature.

Check out this link for images on the Ar and the BR using the same scoping technique.

We have to accept the forward momentum. We will never get the conventional Halo scoping back. My solution is the best middle ground IMO.

The new scoping COULD be progressive if they balance it correctly like you said. There should be NO added accuracy boost and at this point I’m unsure about descoping but that’s another thread…

Just give us a toggle, “Smart Scope” and “Traditional Scope”. Have them function the same Smart Scope just looks like it does now andTraditional Scope is the same as Halo 1-4. Everyone is happy and no one has a technical advantage over anyone. If some people aren’t used to their guns taking up a third of their screen every time they zoom don’t make them have to. I can’t be the only person who didn’t like CoD SPECIFICALLY because of the ADS, it always felt so awkward to me.

In theory this would be great but the game’s continuity suffers from it. The switch option is ok, its the lack of consistency with the ADS where some weapons don’t need a physical scope and some do.

That’s my main argument. Check out my link above for images I threw together for the BR using the CORRECT smart scope.

It takes me almost half a second to gather myself when going from hip fire to this down the middle ADS.

TOO JARRING

Shameless bump

I disagree with you OP. I definitely consider myself more of a Halo purist when it comes to the combat and I am loving Halo 5 so far. For me it wasn’t about the logic behind the ADS it was concerns about how it would change the control scheme and how it aesthetically was made to look like CoD to appease those fans. Upon actually playing the game I’ve realized that it doesn’t change up gameplay at all. I play on Bumper Jumper and can zoom in classically with the right analog stick instead of left trigger. And it functions exactly the same as any other Halo scope. So other Halo combat purist need to just get over the ADS because it really isn’t a big deal. Changes are going to be made to appeal to a wider audience and people need to just get that through their heads. If they calmed down and played the game they’d realize it has no impact on the actual combat.

I never said I didn’t want change in my original post.

You completely overlooked my tech. logic behind why they should not have scopes on ANY weapon if their visor scopes for them.

In halo 5 when someone aims, do the actually put their gun hand dead center of their face and right under their nose? No.

Smart Scope has a place in Halo, as it always did in one form or another.

Check out my images in the above link for a visual reference to what a BR would look like scoped in with TRUE smart scope.
