In my opinion, smart scope was the best move our devs have had yet. I know I’m gonna get ratted, go ahead. But halo needs change, and this was the perfect way, in my opinion once again.
I agree, it really is just a reimagined zoom, I’ve watched the footage over and over and the more i see it the more i like it, it looks futuristic, it looks -Yoink!-, and sleek, it adds nothing to gameplay and doesn’t take anything away, its not ADS where you slow down and have better accuracy, hip fire is still as it was. I just don’t understand why fans don’t want halo to looks sexier.
I dont mind change, like i said in my other thread sprint, some abilities etc i can live with but these smart scopes really dont suit it… i hate the idea with a passion for halo, Cod, titanfall fair enough go for it, it does kind of suit them but halo… no i really dont like the idea…
I know its you opinion which is fair enough but just thought id say my opinion on it and i really dont like it

What bugs me is that ADS is completely unnecessary. If you took out the physical scope and left the HUD overlay, it’d be perfect.
What does it actually add? Its the exact same as scope
If anything, its just to draw in people from other crowds
I like how they replaced current scope/zoom with smart scope.
Agreed, I’m liking smart scope

The people that dislike Halo because you can’t aim down the sights will probably realize they hate the shots to kill next and then descope. They will probably also stand completely still while smart scoping and lose most fights. It might trick some of the modern shooter audience into buying Halo 5 but they probably won’t be playing it within a year or buying DLC.

^ Pretty much this. 343 may be tricking fans of other fps franchises into buying H5 based on looks, but as soon as they play it, they’re going to realize that Halo still plays differently, and they’re going to drop it right away. The only way Halo is ever going to genuinely attract those players is if Halo becomes less like Halo and more like those other shooters. And once that happens, they’ve officially isolated their core fanbase and are basically catering to no one.
One of the big things about Halo, stylistically and canonically, was that Spartans and marines use advanced targeting systems that have replaced the need for aiming down sights. The UNSC designed the Assault Rifles and Pistols with no iron sights or scopes. Because they were not needed. No weapon in the Alien arsenal featured iron sights or scopes either.
Something like the Halo 5 AR Smart zoom I’m actually ok with. To me it’s turning the AR more into the weapon it should have always been. It implies advanced targeting systems. I can imagine aiming in this way with Plasma Rifles, Plasma pistols etc also. It’s just the weapons that force the Aim down sight perspective. The Pistol for example. They have redesigned it to feature iron sights. I would prefer it if it was something more like the AR, I’m even OK with the Spartan centralising the Pistol a bit to imply more precise aiming during the zoom animation, I just don’t want to be physically aiming down sights, have it be slightly lower on the screen, not obscuring half the reticle.
Other weapons with greater zooms can just use the more classic Smart scope uplink. Where the hud displays the perspective of the scope it’s self. Since that is what Smart scope actually is canonically. It’s like viewing the game from a camera mounted on your gun. I notice the Sniper still uses Classic smart scope in Halo 5.

> I agree that smart scope is a good idea. But I am just wondering how they are going to use it. To use smart scope effectively you need left trigger to scope… and I don’t really feel comfortable with Halo taking that turn. That is the reason why I suck at COD, because I just can’t get the controls quite right.

People are making a big deal out of nothing. It’s not ADS. It’s just an evolution of the old zoom feature. No gameplay changes.
The important thing for me is there is equal settings for all players, no own loadouts, everyone starts with same weapons and then there is weapons on map. And no super abilites, im okay with sprint and that’s about it! no surprise abilities.
For me, it does affect gameplay because of the image of the gun obscuring the view.
I have to admit, I cant wait for the beta. I want to see how this smart scope actually works in the base multiplayer game of Halo. It seemed to look great when watching at halo festival. LETS GO 343!
No it isn’t, it’s a cosmetic change, I personally don’t like it (because it’s also on weapons that previously didn’t have scopes), calling it what’s best for halo is at best an exaggeration.
Doesn’t make a difference to me either way. It sure looks foreign, but it’s still effectively the same as it has always been. You can call it ADS all you want, but don’t conflate it with the more traditional ADS function. It’s not the same. Stop acting like it is. We get it, you don’t like the way it looks. Just leave it at that.
