Smart Scope into Halo's Traditional Zoom

From what I have seen so far Smart Scope is primarily an aesthetic change even though it adds sights to automatic weapons, such as the SMG and Assault Rifle. That means that recreating Halo’s traditional zoom using Smart Scope shouldn’t be that difficult.

Now imagine that you are using Smart Scope, looking down the weapon’s sights. First get rid of the weapon and then its scope. Now you are left with the only the holographic sights. Next get rid of everything but the reticle itself. Now create a square surrounding the lone reticle (leave a good distance between the two). Next darken the region outside the square. Finally, add any necessary HUD elements, such as the health bar(s).

And that 343i is how you turn Smart Scope into Halo’s traditional zoom feature. That being said, players should be able to toggle between Smart Scope and the traditional zoom feature by clicking up and down on the D-pad. Seems simple enough.

If you could choose between the two in game, why would anyone in their right mind actually choose traditional zoom over smart scope? Smart scope gives better peripheral vision allowing you to make better informed decisions about how you approach any given combat situation.

I never liked Halo’s zoom feature, I hate having my vision cut off. Some might call that “balance” but I call it annoying. I love the new smart scope system on every weapon, and I am perfectly happy with dropping zoom.

Hmmmm…I really wouldn’t mind a toggle. Also, could we get some damn night vision?

A toggle though would be perfect for the veteran Halo players since it apparently DOESNT change anything.

I thought it had both, I saw dmr gameplay it was traditional scope zoom.

You could toggle it buy a hold/press button. Hold LT to smart scope or press LT to traditonal scope.

See that’s the beauty of it. Freedom of choice. Besides the darkened area would be transparent enough to see through.
