Hello everybody, it’s been a while since I’ve posted on the forums. Before anybody starts assuming I’m here to bash on smart scope (Honestly will bash it a bit). I’d like to ask if this new scoping method could work with other control layouts? For example, I’ve been using the ‘Recon’ button layout since Halo 3 all the way to Halo 4 and even Halo Anniversary. And I’m capable of adapting to most-all game changes made to Halo. Whether it’s armor abilities, power ups, new features, new weapons/vehicles, ordnance drops or loadouts, I’m capable of dealing with it all. A lot of people may disagree but I loved Halo 4 even with it’s changes. However tampering with the controls is something that seems to bother me. Plus seeing this new scoping method has really made me all torn up inside. (“It’s always been there”) To be personally frank, the way I see it is It’s basically Frankie politely saying we’ve changed it to ADS without completely upsetting the community. Being a proud Halo fan since Halo CE makes me really ticked off with the idea of ADS. Simply looking at the way Spartans scope in this Halo 5 makes me want to cut off somebodies eyelids, inject a needle full of acid into their eye balls and watch them dissolve from the inside out. (Couldn’t help but to put that out there)
Anyway scratch what I said and back to the point. If I toggled the right stick to zoom in, would it stay zoomed like it should be? Will I be able to continuously sprint by tapping X once? Can I Evade with LB and Throw grenades with RT. Can I continue to Melee others with B? If I can do all of this, I may be able to adapt or even tolerate this game yet again. But at the moment my hope seems a little down right now.
(By the way, I know aiming from the hip is the same as previous Halo games, don’t use that against my current distaste of Smart Scope.)
In Halo 4, a little known thing is that if you hold the zoom button it’ll actually take you out of scope when you release it as well as the obvious click and zoom/unzoom. So the subtlety of the different aiming styles is obviously something appreciated by the devs.
Most likely there will be a toggle in the options for a “classic” style control scheme with zoom on right stick.

Ahh that’s right, a feature not used by many sadly. Hell a feature people don’t even realize. But I can only hope what you say is true, I can’t let this ruin my Halo experience

Opinion discarded. I liked that eyeball line, but bringing Armour Lock back is just too far.
Im pretty sure they are gonna keep button schemes such as classic and bumper jumper/ bump jump. Actually, i got a control scheme idea of my own:
A: Sprint (its gonna be in there whether we want it to or not)
B: Action
X: Spartan Ability (ditto)
Y: Switch Weapon
Left Stick Click: Crouch
Right Stick Click: Melee
Right Trigger: Weapon Fire
Left Trigger: Hold to Zoom
Right Bumper: Grenade
Left Bumper: Jump
D-Pad Left and Right: Cycle Grenades
D-Pad Up: VISR.
It incorporates both Bumper Jumper and Fishsticks control schemes.

I think they will keep bumber jumper in, and they may make a classic control layout. However I fear greatly that the Recon control layout will be removed or forgotten about completely. I am honestly going to adapt with most new features in the game whether I like it or not. Some ideas I’m happy about such as sprint and etc. But ADS is my biggest issue. I don’t see it working with my button layout.
Your control scheme is real interesting, I can’t see myself using it though, it’s really strange! Curious to see how it plays out. Mine goes as it would with Recon.
A: Jump
B: Melee
X: (Tap once) Sprint
Y: Switch weapon
Left Stick toggle: Crouch
Right Stick toggle: (No Holding) Zoom
Right Trigger: Shoot/Attack
Left Trigger: Grenades
Right Bumper: Pick up weapons/action
Left Bumper: Armor Ability
D-Pad right/left: Cycle Grenades
I suggested it because i actually like holding RT to quickly zoom, fire, and release it (Fishsticks). But i still like jumping with LB (Bumper Jumper) and Meleeing with RS Click (Fishsticks/ Green Thumb) but dont like crouching with B .

I think the new scoping adds more dimension to the game in a good way.
It also make you slow down you and not always shoot while running full speed or while jumping around the map and it makes you vournable to grenades and gunfire which makes things more interesting.
I don’t feel like it takes anything away from the Halo core gameplay experience because shooting while running and jumping still remains a huge part of the game.

I’m not sure if I like it but smart scope is just a Halo styled scope for all weapons. Hip fire is as accurate as ever, you won’t slow down, and descoping is back. The new BR scope is cosmetically hideous though functionally the same 2x zoom we have had since Halo 2.
Armor lock was just terrible and nothing 343i would consider at this point would be worse for Halo judging from the Halo 5 gameplay.

Armor Lock was amazing. So easy to counter if you actually knew how to play the game. I’d like to be brought back over this ground-pound. Plus Armor lock is actually an armor ability in the Halo books/canon.
I think the sprinting and not recharging shields isn’t that good of an idea, and the 4 second cooldown on thruster pack. 3 seconds is the perfect amount of time for a cooldown for something that is as integrated as what Thruster pack seems to be for the gameplay and competitive.
But this is a really really early beta, things are going to change. Hopefully for the better.

sorry for spamming, but this is exavtly what I’m talking about. Nice and simple, a few changes but nothing out of the ordinary. Except I’d say B Toggle: Crouch/Ground Pound/Slide. Good on you.
I feel like nades and zoom should stay on the left trigger and right stick, respectively. Changing them up just confuses the whole of the halo player base and caters to other FPS players. It isn’t needed and is a ridiculous decision by 343i.
