Ok, so in essence Aiming down sights has been added into Halo 5 simply to create a more visually appealing zooming in animation for a next generation shooter. However it seems a bit out of place in Halo. Halo has always had a very different shooting mechanic gamestyle to typical ADS shooters. But I notice the AR in Halo 5 is different.
Hands on with Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer (4:15)
It just zooms. The AR model stays in the bottom right of the screen just viewed from a more magnified perspective. I think this approach to zoom is more appropriate for Halo. Much more in the Spirit of Halo, so to speak. Better illustrates and complements the click toggle zoom and descope mechanics. I can imagine it working very well for The Pistol, Plasma Rifle, Carbine etc. For weapons with higher levels of zoom like the Sniper you could have it zoom past the sniper model, the final zoom will look much as it always did, with no scope in the way, and the animation can be just as fast as ever, just you can see the Sniper get bigger and disappear of screen during the brief zoom animation. The Massive DMR scope in the way of the screen already bugs me from the gameplay I’ve seen, I dread to think what the Sniper looks like. I would quite like that aspect of the new zoom removing.
Things to add, I’m not a fan of bloom when unzoomed, no bloom when Zoomed. I don’t think zoom should have any effect on accuracy, this is Halo. If the AR is more accurate now it should just be more accurate. I hope there are no movement speed nerfs when zoomed as well. For weapons that don’t really directly benefit from zoom I would quite like the zoom to remain for scouting reasons, the zoom button should always zoom. And I would stick 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x zooms etc. None of this 1.7, 1.4x zoom stuff. I would also recommend exploring headshot multipliers with this more precision based gamestyle.
Smart Scope is Zoom with a new coat of paint.
If you use a control scheme with it on RS it’ll play just like the older games.

I know what it is. And it isn’t exactly, many weapons in Halo 5 are more accurate when smart scoped. And I was saying I prefer the visual aesthetic of ‘Smart zoom’ as apposed to ‘Smart scope ADS’. Plus I think the descope and toggle zoom mechanics will feel a bit off when aiming down a red dot sight, especially for people coming from other games used to classic ADS.

No it doesn’t, it’s more precise when you ADS, but less accurate. There’s a difference between precision and accuracy. The gun kicks around when you ADS, watch some gameplay videos with the AR.

No they are not though smart scoping does not make any of the weapons more accurate this is false information.

Look at the gameplay. The AR has bloom when unzoomed. but it doesn’t when zoomed. Precision weapons like the BR however are as accurate as ever unzoomed. I’m guessing that is where the confusion is coming from.
As long as smartscoping with weapons such as the smg and the assault rifee don’t make the weapons more accurate they just increase the range.
