Smart Scope = ADS. End of story.

ADS stands for Aim Down Sights. When you will be using Smart Scope you will be Aiming Down Sights. I know it will not be as ADS classically means (Slow down your moment and give you better accuracy) but Smart Scope is still ADS. End of story

so? no point to this, the fact that you do just as much damage firing from the hip keeps it the same, it just looks and feel way better

Yes I find it annoying when people nitpick and claim that Smart Scope is not ADS, it is effectively ADS even if it predominately aesthetic.

The rationale behind introducing it is beyond doubt - to entice players from COD and similar franchises into the game where the traditional Halo zoom would be foreign to them.

Where a mistake will be made is if that ADS is not optional and all players must now use Smart Scope. Then it not only becomes an addition brought in to entice the COD crowd, it becomes 343i neglecting the Halo fan base to wholly cater to the fan base of another game.

I mean technically, zoom in with BRs and DMRs was about as effective as ADS, just without the aesthetic appeal in doing it as you see your weapon. The only change this ADS in Halo has done is add the aesthetics of the gun to it like many FPS games today, and smart scope grants the ability of zooming with every weapon. And even then, it doesn’t seem very effective with weapons like the AR.

A majority of the time when watching the pros play Halo 5, they didn’t even bother with ADS with any other weapon that wasn’t BR or DMR.

Weren’t you the guy complaining that it wasn’t fair that skulls disable achievements on legendary cuz its hard AF? Look at me, I just beat Halo 2 A solo legendary, no skulls. Anyways aside from that, 343 said “No penalty to hip fire in H5, no movement penalty when scoping/zooming, no flinch”, so my question is after reading that quote is, then why implement the feel of it, in other words, why make it look like CoD zoom if there is no difference from the old zoom? Obviously they are changing the scope so that they lure in casual Call of Duty players into it and other FPS. smh, imo, Halo should not have to change in order to appease to gamers who don’t care much for Halo as the people in this community do. Halo should be a trend setter and not a trend follower.

But how do you explain the holographic overlay? You can take the term ADS at face value, but it’s still a stick click zoom with a little visual flair. So long as your movement isn’t penalized and you’re not using up a valuable trigger to use it, then it’s not ADS to me.

Smart Scope looks awesome. I will use Smart Scope on AR because I already burst at enemies when they are at the edge of my range and now it will help me see better. Since Smart Scope does not effect any game mechanic what’s wrong with people having the option? How about just don’t push the ADS button and you won’t see the big bad
Scary Scope! The game will have layout with click RS for zoom. There is no problem.

Halo 4 = Halo.

See guys, it has Halo in the title. End of story.

So?

It still functions like a scope and does nothing to hip firing.

"but it is not halo"
BR, Button combos and Vehicle boarding wasn’t in H1, Gravity Hammer and detachable turrets wasn’t in H2 but the fact that they were new didn’t stop us from accepting them as part of a game, these weren’t the most unique ideas either but we did like them anyway. (except for the Button combos they were not intentional but we accepted it even for competitive play).

"looks bad"
depends on the person’s preference. Been playing Halo since 2005 and I find it actually cool that small holograms comes up on top of the weapon that acts as the iron sight. and it just looks and feels better imho

"it basically does nothing for gameplay so what are its purpose why not just have the old scopes?"
Simple. To grab as many gamers from the new generation as possible. Believe it or not despite PS4’s complete control of the market, Xbox one is doing better than Xbox 360 in terms of sales rate. The Franchise needs these people to stay relevant in the future as Xbox’ biggest asset.

and having something like ADS in the game though it wouldn’t attract new players right off the bat but it will sure not repel them away from it.

It’s not ADS though

How’s that? No accuracy increase, no movement penalty, limited sight. It’s basically an animation for zooming rather than just a black screen with a reticule.

True. But only if you stop there. If You try to use that as a way to slam halo 5 in anyway then you’d be wrong. Because halo always had “ads.”

So, if we are not going to be technical about the definition of ADS, then all Halo games have had ADS. It just wasn’t visually represented properly.

No, you did not have ADS in halos prior to HALO 5. In the other games you never actually did aim by raising your scope and look down into it. You would use a zoom instead that was in your helmet without any hand animations that did bring the scope closer to your head/eyes.

As Spartan 4s it wouldn’t make sense for them to treat guns the same way the Spartan 2s did. The 2 were trained from kids and taught to fight with armor. But the ODST’s and ONI agents fought without huds (majority) so its only more natural for them to have sights to aim down out of muscle memory

Ive watched the footage countless times, and i watched a guy playing recon which placed is “ADS” on the right stick and well to me it looks just like how zoom works, the same noise when the animation pops up even happens.

I like it, its new, i understand a lot of people think its ADS but it really isn’t.

If there’s any doubt that they’re putting ads into halo as a cod lure, you need look no farther than the IGN xbox podcast where dudes who played halo 5 said that the controls were frustrating especially “using the left trigger to scope in instead of use grenades”. I’m sure you can change it, but it’s still the default and still a joke. This is Halo, innovate already. Stop playing follow the leader.

Oh no the default control scheme mimics the control scheme that most FPS games use. Maybe they wanted players to be able to pick up and play… I use fishsticks because it fits in with the other games I play. Some people play more than 1 game.
