Smaller Warzone Maps are a Must for Future DLCs.

I know that a lot of people are going to think I’m crazy for saying this. Warzone, of course, is supposed to be the biggest multiplayer experience in halo ever. But contrary to what people expect, Bigger maps don’t mean bigger battles. With the Bosses being plonked in distant corners of the map, players will find themselves being pulled from hotspots just to dust off a few point buckets.

ARC is an excellent example on how Warzone maps should look. The only thing that doesn’t work is the massive unused space outside each base. I’ve had no heated full hearted battles out there, it could be better optimized, but nothing the less, it is generally a fantastic map.

The other maps however, have everything spread out. At least with ARC the enemies usually spawn at arms length, Apex actually drops elites in these distant unused building areas that I’m pretty sure has never housed a battle. When the Phaeton flies in the entire map turns into a ghost town. These maps look amazing, they truly do, but space has been optimized so poorly, fights are never as big as they could be. The Home bases need to be closer to the other bases. They all have these massive spaces out front that barely get used. I sometimes justify my entire decision to not get out a scorpion, even though I have 12, nothing else to spend my levels on, just because it’s almost a two minute drive just to get to the action.

Storm break is practically a marathon track. and APEX has to be the worst use of space I’ve ever seen. I’ve played Warzone since release and only recently discovered a building I never knew existed. Why is it there?

343 should focus on making compacter maps with more direct routes to the fight. Then it will truly feel like a massive 12 man team fight! More people will feel motivated to use Scorpions, Wraiths, Warthogs and other weapons. Currently, Snipers Dominate and Rocket-launchers, Needlers, Hydras, Swords and Shotguns have never felt so niche. Stop blurring the marathon tracks with Man cannons. Use them intuitively, if you ever find yourself using a mancannon because “Boy, that’s a super long distance to run”, your map is not optimized. Man-cannons should create interesting combat encounters and devious strategies, not just shortcutting.

I can imagine I’m throwing myself into a controversial topic here. What do you think about ma Sizes in warzone?

I think the sizes are fine as they are currently. What they need to do is randomize and increase the boss and AI spawns throughout the map.

If they added a new non objective game-mode, then smaller maps could work. I think that on the default warzone mode then small maps would not work.

maybe we keep the map size and go to 24 v 24

Sorry, but no. That’s a really bad compensation for maps being too big. It will basically change nothing as it’s just going to be larger groups of Spartans sprinting over a equally and stupidly long stretch of land. If you made it 1000 v 1000 spartans it would still be an issue. Plus 12 v 12 is about as big as it gets in modern day because technology in games design is not sophisticated enough to deal with that many users.

If they actually filled the ridiculous stretches of land with enemies I actually wouldn’t mind. It’s much more fun to fight to the enemy base than to run there in one long boring stretch of gameplay.

Of course it would work. Warzone assault works and that’s all 24 players all in one base at a time. That game modes proves that this concept is a possibility. Plus, 343 have proven that it does already work with the map ARC. It’s a far, far smaller map and the gameplay rolls far smoother. It’s just be utilized way better. I’d be very happy if the future DLC maps were utilized in the same way, but I will just give up if they keep using the same generic base layout. 343 have proven that they can design levels. But i’d like to see less of this hit n’ miss format.

This why we have vehicles, but man cannons are a nice +.

You don’t need to use them on the maps we have now, unless you want a quick jump to your own base or spire.

Not everyone uses vehicles, though. I don’t get the same rise out of a vehicle than I do on my feet. And don’t get me wrong, I love using man cannons, but it’s easy to see when they’ve been used just to cover up some level design mistakes. There need to be more man-cannons in maps to create interesting strategies and combat situations. What we have now is just sweeping the dust under the rug, The dust being oversized regions nobody fights in anyway and the rug being a mancannon.

Honestly I think ARC is one of the worst in terms of accommodating vehicle play. All you can really do is drive circles around the garage. There are no alternate routes for larger vehicles, so you’re always pigeon holed down the tunnel in late game. Garage bay can easily be camped to board incoming vehicles…

Interesting as ARC is my least favourite of the warzone maps and Apex is the preferred choice. ARC is too heavily based around the garage. Hold that and you generally win. Too easy to do because of the open space around it plus all the bosses spawn in locations that are quick to reach from there.

smaller maps?

i want bigger maps with more stuff

it seems like all the action takes place on 15% of the map’s total area

i think they need to grab Infinity from Halo CE and make that warzone map

that would be perfect, 2 bases, a central area with a garage and 4 armories

Apex 7 is essentially Death Island already
