Small wishlist from a H:CE fan...

Quick intro about myself, I am a Halo fan from day one like so many things of us. But I’m not really interested in the UE by reading novels or comics. A game’s story should be told by the game not hours of homework prior to playing the game (looking at you H5) And I am not going to rant about 343. But quite frankly there is a lot broken about the current state of Halo. So a small wishlist I wanted to run by you guys and just get your thought…

Graphical design:

  • Elites that actually look and act like elites (referring to H2)
  • No banished (last thing we need is another faction that needs explanation through comics and novels.)
  • UNSC soldiers that look like soldiers and not like power rangers.

Gameplay / Misc.:

  • OG assault rifle (60 glorious rounds of blood and guts)
  • No armor mods or airburst (sprinting i dont mind)
  • No REQ system or any other predatory lootbox gambling system
  • No team command mechanics in campaign…

That’s my two cents, curious how it aligns with you guys…

I can get behind a lot of what you’re saying–and I think you’ll be pleased with many of the aesthetic decisions at least (Everything we’ve seen harkons very strongly back to the visual identity of H2 and 3).

However, the Banished could be explained gracefully in-game without the need for extra lore exploration on the part of the player (think a few seconds of explanatory dialogue from Lasky, Palmer, even Cortana-- this would suit the purpose of explaining their role and why they’re bad guys). I’m not convinced the Banished will or should be in the game-- but I do miss fighting Brutes since Reach, so I wouldn’t be disappointed to see them there.

As for the 60 round AR… Keep dreaming. I love the CE AR as well, but it never came back for the very plain reason that it was an unbalanced mess. To bring back a magazine with that much capacity in the AR and have it balance with the rest of the weapons sandbox, they’d have to nerf the power of each shot by something like 1/2, which in my opinion would leave us with a less satisfying weapon to use than the 32 round versions from every game since CE.

343i has also confirmed some kind of paid DLC element for progression, although it sounds like they’ve moved a bit away from the REQ system thankfully. Just don’t expect there to be absolutely no incorporation of modern AAA gaining DLC practices; right or wrong, these aren’t going anywhere for the foreseeable future.

I disagree and I don’t think I’m alone. 4 and 5’s problems weren’t that they introduced new factions, it was that they had little to no explanation. The Banished’s goals are simple enough (scavenge and grow an empire) that they could very easily be explained in Infinite to players who didn’t play Halo Wars 2. The bulk of the Banished’s backstory can remain in the HW2 comics, but I have no doubt that if they show up in Infinite we’ll at least get all the important information we need on them.

I’d imagine their appearance in Infinite to be akin to the old-school Covenant in CE. Think about how you had no clue why the Covenant were attacking you in CE until Truth and Reconciliation, when it was revealed they were attacking you to gain control of Halo. That doesn’t necessarily explain why the Human-Covenant War started, however; that’s never explained in the original trilogy. That’s okay because the idea is that the war has gone on for so long that the information is irrelevant to the soldiers of today; they now must fight for survival. So perhaps the Banished’s Infinite depiction might be like this in that at first humans are fighting them for survival (assuming they’ve already started the fight in the Shadows of Reach novel) but their goals in the games’ plot as well as more information about the faction would be revealed over time.

Regardless, I think 343 knows now that they can’t just throw another faction into the mix without introduction.

I agree with TacticalBeasty. The Banished can be explained through a few seconds of dialogue. I would love to see them in Infinite.

Same, in Halo Wars 2, we basically understood The Banished from a 2-minute cutscene in which Isabel explains Atriox to them. The same can be done in Halo Infinite.

I highly doubt 343i would revert the assault rifle back with 60 rounds it essentially doubles it’s capacity and turns it into a weaker saw.
