I know the game has bigger problems now, but I feel like the following upgrades to the UI would make the game a lot more enjoyable, while requiring little work from the devs’ part.
-
Service tags indicating your teammates instead of their entire gamertag (a la Halo 3): this would allow us to tell at a glance where certain teammates are, which is useful in objective gamemodes where some teammates play the objective and others don’t (for example I would stick together with that one guy who is trying to capture the flag).
-
Teammate markers change color depending on whether they are shooting/being shot at/dead: again similar to Halo 3, where the teammate marker would turn yellow when he’s shooting, orange when being shot at, and red when he’s dead. This is extremely useful for teamplay. Something like this is already present in the game but it’s not as intuitive as Halo 3 system.
-
White arrows/dots on the motion tracker indicating the position of objectives in objective-based modes: in Halo 3 you’d see for example the position of the enemy flag marked as a little white arrow on the edge of your motion tracker. This is really helpful especially for new players and for gamemodes which have multiple objectives at the same time (stockpile, total control, etc.)
-
More intuitive ammo counter / grenade slots: (yet again a la Halo 3) replace the ammo counter number with icons representing individual bullets left in the mag, and show both the types of grenades you are carrying.
I don’t think these would require much work from the devs to implement, while still improving the quality of the UI significantly. Of course all these would be optional for those who enjoy the current UI.
I’ll probably post this every month since there’s no dedicated feedback thread and no channel to communicate general feedback, so I can’t be sure if the anyone at 343 in charge of dealing with feedback will see this post or not.
