Small Spinoff Games

I think that Halo is due for a spinoff–we’ve been so heavily focused on these high-level, grandiose-in-scope games, that I think, if they can afford it, 343 would be wise to throw us a bone like an 8-10 mission long spinoff game, in the vein of ODST. Keep it small, impactful, and character-driven. Show us one of those lore things that never sees the spotlight due to Chief’s space opera.

In fact, make it a spiritual successor or predecessor to ODST. How would you guys like to see something like the very funny duo of Buck and Romeo’s work together as Spartans after 2555 and into their falling out? Or maybe explore Buck’s work with the original Alpha-Nine during the 2540’s? Or Dutch, Gretchen, and Romeo’s service together during the 2540’s? Thoughts?

I’d like a spin-off playing solely as an Elite. Preferably a ‘good’ one like the Arbiter, or Half-Jaw.

Shoot, this will sound weird but…

How about a game that isn’t necessarily military-related? Not that I have a problem with it, but it would be an interesting way to flesh out the universe. Shoot, make it an TPS action-adventure game. No galactic revelations, no conflicts about the fight to save humanity, no massive wars (at least, not initially), just a game where you play as a person/alien in the universe and explore it, flesh it out, and see how things go over time. Add some RPG-elements to the game in that you could play as a human, or an elite, or even a prophet or brute.

Sort of like the first Forerunner novel that was entirely detached from the standard universe beyond a few concepts, this game wouldn’t even have much to do with the Spartan’s, the UNSC, etc. Make it a crime-story set in the Halo universe. Make it the story of an ONI officer trying to prevent a terrorist/insurrectionist attack.
