Small Maps.

Is Haven seriously the only small, closed in map?
Come on 343.

It’s also the best(imo), you should’ve created more small/closed in maps.

Hopefully 343i uses their forge map Relay, looks like a successor to Warlock/Wizard.

Adrift is small, Solace is decently small, and Abandoned is relatively small. Also with sprint as default the maps need to be bigger to feel like they would have in an older Halo game.

Let’s see.

Haven, Adrift, Solace (looks small/medium) , Abandon , and Relay (Forge Map Variant)

So, yeah. There are a handful of small maps! <3

Adrift…

Imo i think nearly all the MP maps are small, there hasnt been really any big open maps, and nothing really for vehicle gameplay.

All the maps needed to be bigger to support non-awkward movement with Sprint and AAs.

For the small maps we have Haven, Adrift, Solace, and Abandoned… plus whatever Forge environments they come up with for MLG or smaller map playlists. But the 4 listed were the only ones we’ll see at launch. Unless something else I’m missing is considered “small”. No forge maps at launch.

Actually Adrift has got a lot of areas so it isn’t that small, although it does have a lot of corridors so I suppose you’re right there.

There’s a certain unannounced map that is huge.

I’ve played on it, trust me it’s small.

Solace, Adrift and Abandon aren’t that small. They’re generally quite open, what I mean is close quarter combat with chaos around every corner.

do you mean the one that was leaked or the other one that nobody knows anything about? Also was it said that it will be huge?

The one that was accidentally posted on IGN, I got lucky enough to watch the video.

I think he means Blood Gulch open, which I think would be a bad idea. The closest thing we’ve got in terms of BTB is Ragnarok, which I like.

That map looks fantastic. And don’t get his hopes up. It’s big, but not “we can fit a mammoth on it” big. It’s also not very open, compared to maps like Sandtrap and Blood Gulch. I love the map, but when many people here say “big” they mean “big and open”.

Due to the nature of halo 4 and how it plays out we needed bigger maps. Essentially size has been re defined. Small is now medium and medium is now large. The maps look huge but coming from my hands on experience they don’t feel large.

Small maps tend to not work as well with Sprint and Armor Abilities. The Jet Pack becomes pointless, Regen. Field becomes overpowered because there are more corners and opportunities to hide and recover your shields, Sprint makes the map feel tiny and constrained, and Hard Light Shield makes you invincible because the tighter corridors/areas don’t allow you to be shot from the sides/back as easily. Sure, these are slight exaggerations, and they all depend on the map, but it’s hard to make small maps work with AA’s and Sprint. Could you imagine Halo 4 gameplay on Guardian or Lockout? It wouldn’t work too well.

However, I do agree with you. The game does need a few more smaller maps. More maps like Haven and Relay. Small, symmetrical 4v4 maps with action everywhere.

The only small map you listed is Relay. Haven and Adrift can accommodate 8v8 gametypes with ease, and I would say they probably work even better with larger teams than they do with 4v4. Solace is massive, and Abandon is still medium-large sized.

Haven is small! It’s only a little bigger than Guardian, and more “compact” (more “hotspots” for action). Play the Halo Reach premake (made to near perfect scale), and you’ll see how small it really is.
