It’ll make life easier for everyone from noobs to tryhards and console or PC. Just make it a little harder to change directions, Spartans should look like gravity effects them. Ala; H2 - 3 strafing.
Plus, it’ll mean that our Spartans look less like their legs are made of jello.
Oh and turn collision on already. We already did that poll!
This is how h3 started to differentiate the deault settings from the tournament settings though. It had these as tournament settings, which were also the MLG playlist settings.
BSM 110%
damage 110%
shield regen speed 90%
motion tracker off
precision weapon (BR) starts
We have all of this in infinites ranked playlist. Its even noticeable that the shield regen rate has been replicated. So…here’s the issue. The games been out for months…we’re barely going to start getting ranked playlists. Imo, i think ranked plays better with tournament settings. So for the 2v2 thats coming, I’d hate to see strafe speed neutered for example.
For social though? That should feel more soial, a bit less intense. 10% reduction would serve it good so long as a majority of players that play it want that. Go into mcc and check out how h3 and reach have the 2 different movement speeds in the respected settings which really affect strafing to get an idea of how the change would feel.
the normal ranked settings in h3 were default. Slower, had motion tracker etc. In infinite, IF we had a big stable of playlists to choose from…like I wouldn’t mind a tournament suite, and a social suite. We hardly have anything though, so that’s why I hold this opinion.
It feels pretty good. If someone is strafing back and forth in a predictable manner you can easily follow and shoot them. But if they mix it up then it gets a bit harder.
He’s talking about strafing, not base movement speed. The acceleration to make it to full speed in Halo 3 remained unchanged, meaning, it wasn’t removed in ranked. Halo Infinite has no speed acceleration. It hits max speed immediately which make it easily abusable in fights.
One of the old Halo designers put it really well about Infinite trying to have both heavy armor and being super agile. I think there should be some inertia.
Go play training mode with bots, and right away it becomes evident the strafe speed is out of wack. The cartoonish strafe speed combined with lag, desync, poor hit detection, and an aiming system that for many people is absolute garbage, combined makes it nearly impossible to track an enemy, how many people have to report it before it becomes a thing?
I think, people who like the strafe speed as is have been able to make it work to their advantage, but it doesn’t make it good for the game overall.
In h3 the BMS was bumped to 110% for the mlg playlist which was used for tournament settings. Its a blanket increase, so you would also feel it in the initial movement as well. The strafe between default settings and non default (not even talking about hard pegging your stick to the right for a few seconds here) was pretty different. Like your left right movements still felt faster. It speeds up gameplay but also widens the skill gap for players. This is especially good for top percentile players so it creates more dynamics in the pivs.
So for infinite, I honestly feel like my suggestion still stands as a fair point. You’d undoubtedly feel a 10% reduction speed in your left right movements even with the threshold settings maxed out for initial speed requiring you hardly to move. Its still a 10% total reduction, which would result in making it easier to track your target so long as…you have some discipline on the sticks and the settings that feel right for the player.
The old titles had differences in default ranked, social, and mlg. In h5 it had a different few settings for hcs. For infinite, my suggestion is basically to replicate 3s concept. If players feel that current ranked is too hard, make it the tournament playlist (follows all tournament settings) create a new suite of ranked playlist and decrease speed by the right amount. There’s no need to even delve deep into that…a 10% reduction will be felt for sure.
There needs to be 2 different playlists though. If players like the tournament style settings and want to play for the challenge, where the skill gap is the widest between below average, average, above average, and top percentile, then it would need to remain exactly how it is. With another ranked playlist…like say…make slayer itself ranked right? They can adjust settings for that and even put the motion tracker in for it. It decreases the skill gap, but increases the amount of players who’d want to play it because the majority actually doesn’t care about having a big skill gap. This will feel much appreciated, and a semi return to what it felt like back when they loved halo.
The mlg playlist in 3 was never the most populated, but it was appreciated that it existed. Infinite is missing the meat and potatoes of the game, and forces the player to play unwanted game types for multiple reasons. There’s much to be improved.
Sorry if thats all overkill. I tend to…sometimes just speak my mind and feel like it may clarify my perspective for anyone who decides to read it.
Another reason people say they like it being out of whack is simply to be a contrarian. I’ve seen it happen in H4 and H5 and other universally condemned games like Fallout 76.
My impression is people who aren’t really invested in something and actively won’t or can’t engage in well thought out critical thinking basically do this:
“Why are these people saying things? I should be saying things! I like the crap way tehe so that means it’s a debated topic now.”
Um no. Leave it alone. I have spent a lot of time (and still do) working on my strafing skills., and am finally getting pretty OK at it.
It by far does not make you invincible by any means or guarantee you will win every 1 v 1 engagement. It’s just another tool.
Was just watching the HCS NA Super yesterday and those guys are all masters at Strafing and all of them were still going down. (Even Lucid)
I say this as someone that was frustrated by other players that were kicking my butt using strafe. Spend more time in Academy firing range, or bot custom matches and start working on your own strafe ( i do it every time before jumping into matches).
Also you may want to think about making some changes to your controller to make strafing feel more natural and accessible while keeping your fingers on the trigger and move stick.
Hate to say “Get Gud” But other people have spent a lot of their own time learning how to do this, don’t hate on them because you don’t want to spend your time learning how to do it. It’s available to everyone.
No reason to leave strafe accel instantaneous, slowing it only adds more depth to movement and prevents easy abuse. Just change for the sake of change.
