Hello everyone! So I’ve been browsing the forums for Infinite quite some time and I see people discussing a lot of the same things that people always discuss when a new Halo game comes out. Whether its movement mechanics, campaign length, enemies, and weapons; no one seems to be discussing the brand new engine that Infinite will be built around. How do you all think this will affect the “feel” of the next installment of the Halo universe? All of the previous games we’ve played have all utilized the same engine. Do you think there will be a drastic change here or will it feel like a classic halo game? The team at 343i has been harping on the need for a new engine since before H5 was created which I think is justified due to the sheer age and the ‘workability’ of the old engine. How do you think the new engine will affect forge, firefight, campaign, and multiplayer?
I am assuming that it will enhance a good many of those things, make them smoother, allow for more things to be done creatively and the like.
Who knows? Maybe scriptable AI? Doom 2016 had it. So it isn’t impossible for 343i to provide us with the same.
*Slipspace engine
I honestly believe the engine will be it’s own entity, separate from the old or new engine. From what we’ve already seen (which is nowhere near the final product) it looks like it will try and be very technologically innovative, in terms of graphics and capability. Expect to hear a way more in-depth analysis at E3, something tells me 343 is gonna really sell this slipspace engine.

Really looking forward to E3 this year, haven’t really been excited about one in a long time to be honest! Will definitely be taking some time off to relax and tune in.
It is still has components of the BLAM engine so hopefully the “feel” of Halo will crossover even though it’s a mostly new engine. As far as how it will affect different modes I really don’t know. I have a feeling forge is going to be bonkers. We’ll just have to wait for more information.
I’m genuinely excited about how the new engine will feel. Regardless of other criticisms, every Halo game has had tight controls and always felt good to play. New engine means all sorts of new features and I think it will feel good to play like every other game, but an evolution of that feel, if that makes sense. Sort of like how Gears 4 felt just like every other Gears but a lot better. The people who work on all that really know how to make mathematics and code look like magic lol.
I think a new engine will only bring positive attributes to the game honestly. I can’t wait!

Is this accurate? I thought this engine only stretched back as far as Halo 3.

I hate to be that guy, but do you have a source for that? I was previously under the impression that this engine is completely from the ground up.

Not sure what the original source is, think it was a Halo youtuber I first heard it from? I don’t think anyone knows exactly what remains from the blam engine, just that it has components of it. It could be very little stuff that was so trivial there was no reason to create from scratch so they just implemented it.

I’ve heard the same thing except I remember it being on here a little after the first E3 showing. And I think Bonnie mentioned a little bit on it during her interview with IGN and she also said more info at E3 will be said.
But from that info that was stated the “core” of the BLAM engine is still there. So the feel of Halo will still be there, its just upgraded. A lot. Like imagine cutting a small circle inside a pizza, throw away the outer area and make a new pizza with the existing inner circle. From what I’ve read and watched thats what I believe SlipSpace is. But again, we’ll know a lot more at E3 2019 when they actually talk about it.

You’re absolutely correct with the exception of halo 4. For me at least, the game just felt “clunky” especially on Xbox 360. Do you think the possibility of new abilities will happen or do you think that 343i will work on polishing their current formula? (which I think is a lot of fun to play multiplayer atm)

Yes, all of the Halo games have used some form of the same game engine created by Bungie since Halo 1, which was heavily modified for each game. I can’t verify if the Havok engine was used for the physics in each game or others like textures, etc.

Dang that is absolutely wild. They have pushed this thing rather far, then.

Elderscrolls and the modern fallout games are still on a modified version of the engine used for morrowind back in 2002
It’s not too un common to reuse an engine and upgrade it. No need to reinvent the wheel.
Many times developers boast about a new engine it really just means an overhaul of what they have. I wouldn’t be surprised if slipspace is still using some blam at its core
I think in all reality the new engine will make the games look better and realistic. It should also allow 343 to make bigger maps, make gameplay smoother and unique, and allow more A.I.s on one screen. It will also depend on how well the next Xbox works as well. If they both utilize their equipment and software to their highest potential, I can see some great things headed in Halo’s way.
To me, the loading times will have an impact on how the game “feels” (please find a way to have to least amount of loading time).
I really appreciate that 343 made a new engine for the series. If its done well could really revitalize and give a fresh appeal to Halo, i mean just take a look at COD and Bethesda games and try to tell me wheres the difference in graphics, they looks so damn old and clunky!

I agree, but I’d also add that since most Halo gamers are still on OG XBox One or One S, it might help if 343i also show any gameplay and cutscene footage running on an OG Box One as well as One X and/or Next-Gen Consoles. It would help for most players to see that the graphics are still going to look good on an OG XB1, even if looks even better on newer consoles.

Well since last year most gameplay was shown in 4K I expect that is all we’ll be seeing this E3. Especially since the OG Xbox One is no longer in production I don’t see Xbox not showing anything in 4K for the sake of the original Xbox One. One S can upscale while One X and next gen consoles can run 4K so there is no doubt in my mind that Infinite will be shown in full 4K 60FPS at E3. That doesn’t mean Xbox and 343 is throwing people who own the OG Xbox One under the bus, we already know that Infinite will be on all Xbox One family consoles. I just think that there will be an obvious difference in gameplay and graphics depending on each console.
