Isn’t Slipspace just an overhauled BLAM! engine? Like Overwatch compared to Overwatch 2?
From the two I watched (the first and last). They really don’t look like Halo. Even Mint Blitz’s video doesn’t look like Halo (or better than), and he even said that there are weird physics right? That doesn’t exactly inspire me.
Yes. It’s the same engine but massively updated. I’m sure you can find code from Halo: CE in Slipspace.
This is the correct take.
Bingo! This is the big one.
So that is literally all incorrect. None of that is remotely true. Legitimately, that is all false. They do not add new maps by removing content. Playlists are not the same thing. They literally, have only added content.
Tell me what content they’ve removed. Point to it. I wanna’ see it.
That is actually the way engines are, period. Mountains of duct tape and relabeling.
They definitely wont - none of these little UE5 projects can, either. There are… very specific and odd ways that Halo works.
That isn’t how it works though. It ONLY LOOKS like Halo.
The amount of resources that would have to go into porting things to a new engine would be rather significant, and would put other things like content on hold.
It’s not cheap, and doesn’t make any money in the short term.
hes taking jabs at people spreading rumors then does the exact same thing then proceeds to ignore it lol
Some systems to make BLAM!, and possibly Slipspace, send models and textures to UE4 already exists to some degree. MCC uses UE4 to display your player and weapon models when you’re in the customization menu.
So they could probably leverage what they have to speed up the process of exporting game models and textures into the UE development tool. If this happens I hope it’s done for spinoff games and they still salvage Slipspace though
How many projects have you worked on in UE? Ever worked on a game project even remotely? I remember you got explained to how to update your BIOS here (no shame in that at all) yet you are lecturing people about game engines and game dev. Sorry, but that’s just hilarious…
Does anyone know if Slipspace is a heavily modified BLAM engine, or is it completely net-new? This would affect how much I care about conserving the engine from a nostalgia factor. If it is truly completely new, idc if they scrap it for something more efficient. If however it does have a lineage going back in time throughout Halo I think it’s worth it to invest in the engine and smooth it out.
This is not 100% accurate. It is possible to update older code and bring it into new tech. Unreal Engine has done this with original code from Unreal 1 & 2. Blam has never updated its original Halo: CE code, so the engine is struggling to keep up with newer tech. But in most cases, you are correct.
I am not taking jabs at any rumor. The tweet mentioned above is attempting to spread information as fact, not a rumor.
It was originally intended to be rebuilt mostly from the ground up. A few insiders and interviews with ex-devs in 2020 and 2021 have hinted more that 343 ended up heavily reworking H5’s engine after concepting a UE4 build as well as a “from scratch” type of build.
H5 was still using BLAM!, so the answer is kind of both tbh.
Hm that is super interesting, thank you for the insight. I’d like a few vidocs from 343i on the development of the engine. If it’s at all related to the previous Halo engines, I am in favor of maintenancing it.
I can’t be bothered quoting and replying but it can’t be that hard to understand the pointing I’m getting at, right?
If someone who doesn’t make games for a living but yet, can make something that replicates Halo on UE…
Then a full team of a dedicated staff who does indeed make games for a living, can totally develop Halo on UE or any other engine they choose.
It’s not that hard to think about it, people.
I was the one who was trying to help with the bios and to be fair, not all developers and/or software engineers know anything about PC’s. At my company, we have a full team of craftsman’s (CAD) that can’t tell the difference between a CPU and GPU, they can’t even tell you the specs of their workstations. There’s only one guy that knows and builds his own PC’s and he’s an on-site contractor for us.
I am not program savvy by any means but keeping this engine is probably bad idea since Infinite doesn’t seem to run very good at all. But I guess time will tell.
I am not taking jabs at any rumor. The tweet mentioned above is attempting to spread information as fact, not a rumor.
Sorry for not being clear; I was talking about the guy you were talking to, not about you.
Every video I’ve seen of “Halo X in UE5” has just been a really nice walk through of a nice looking environment. No player physics, minimum firearms and environment physics.
I’m not saying a Halo themed UE game wouldn’t be cool or beautiful. I’m just saying it’s not going to actually feel anything like traditional Halo gameplay when you’re actually playing it. The engine could work got a spinoff title, but you’re not going to get anything like Halo Infinite on UE.
343 should use UE for spinoff titles and they should salvage Slipspace for traditional multiplayer
No, there is no shame in that at all. Sorry, been developing other skills like welding, art, writing and so on.
Look, if you have to proclaim how much better you are than someone that way, you probably know you aren’t.
What you said here is true. I knew it wasn’t 100% accurate, but it’s accurate enough.
Ah, it was you. Pardon if I was rude earlier, because I quite like you. Sorry, it’s been a while.
It doesn’t really matter what anyone here thinks about game development.
343 are the ones with the pros and cons on the table. It’s their skin in the game. They know Slipspace. It’s issues. It’s potential. The time and financial implication.
And if they have decided to push on then that’s probably the right decision.
And I doubt anyone here has enough information at hand to critique.
My main worry would be losing the feel of Halo. I don’t play a lot of FPS but people seem to talk a lot about how various games have an ‘engine’ feel (not sure if that’s the right wording).
Hopefully 2023 is the year we see Slipspace shine.
Yeah so, I’m just going to frame this one on a wall.
I’m usually a big fan of your posts but this time I can’t share your confidence. I’m not here to just to slam 343i because I do like the game, but it’s pretty clear that Infinite has had lots of bad decisions in its development. Why are you so confident they have it right this time?
I think it could be a good possibly be the right decision, I hope they have it right but I’ll believe it when I see the evidence.
