This is just a small question. Can anyone tell me why the Didact created a portal underneath the Composer to… wherever? Why not just fire the device?
I was under the impression that it was sending the composed raw materials back to requiem.

Originally i thought it was amplifying the effects somehow but Noah is fully correct.
Could have been an escape route.
If it indeed does send the composed data back to Requiem, then that explains how the Promethean Soul contained the memories of a victim of the New Phoenix incident.
Probably a mixture of escape route/sending data back to Requiem. According to the Terminals the Didact is immune to the Composer in his new form.
From what we have seen of the Forerunner artifact in Spartan Ops, trans locating whole beings intact is possible.

Its highly, highly speculated the Didact survived. One thing to consider, though, is there are two Didacts in the books.

It was just a slipspace portal not to mention he is talking at the end of the game.
IF The Ur-Didact was in a cryptum that means bornstellar activated the rings and died. they seriously aren’t going to have two didacts around in the games.
