Not sure if everyone has seen the 343i 2018 December 19th LiveStream. But in that Stream at 35:00 they state the slipspace engine is not built from scratch. It’s built from the previous engine from halo 5. Several systems were replaced with new systems, things were recoded to make the engine better, etc.
So for all those arguing that the game had to be delayed or modes such as Forge and Co Op had to be left out at launch due to the Brand New Slipspace Engine… It’s not new, it’s rebuilt.
So do with that info what you will, but hopefully some of you will consider what you are saying. And how that effects other people. If the coin was flipped say… Multiplayer was delayed instead of forge. Or single player was delayed instead of co op. Maybe put yourself in that type of situation mentally and think what you would want to happen. How you would act.
It’s a new engine. It just has elements of the previous engine which is usual. This has already been confirmed.

Nope. Go watch the love stream. @35:00 343 themselves says it is rebuilt from the base of the old engine. If it was a brand new engine it would still be in development.

I know of all of that already. It’s still a new engine. A Havok game-engine engineer who literally worked on it confirmed that it is new as well.

Where is your source for this Havok game-engine engineer? I gave you my source for my information of 343i employees confirming that it is a rebuilt engine.

Rebuilt from the base of the old engine?
What are we talking about here; remolding the penthouse suite, or knocking the building back down to its foundations?
Truth is, we don’t know how much work went into improving the engine, so it isn’t really an argument anyone can bring to the table.

Bonnie Ross has refered to it as a new game-engine plenty of times. You obviously misunderstood those employees.

She literally says rebuilt. “Trading out the pipelines” “The engine is 18, 19 years old”.
No where does she say new.
You just handed me a video of her backing up the information I’ve posted. Thank you

You are trying to debate with people over the definition of “new engine”
Its unanimously agreed upon that the definition of “new engine” = a engine with major changes to an existing engine, or a engine built from scratch.
Your definition of “new engine” = A new engine sharing 0 code with other existing engines.
Only a minority of lay people would agree with you. Any professional and a vast majority of lay people disagree with your definition.

OOPS MY BAD. You are not debating. Let me change my comment.
Everything 343 said falls under the correct definition of “new engine”.
Therefore, the slipspace engine is new by definition.

This is a good point.
I appreciate that OP brings forward relevant information, and op has a point too.
But it’s also true that either way we still don’t know exactly how much work was put into it. So no major conclusion can really be drawn.

This is some of the info that was said during the live stream that might shine light on the amount of work done:
23:40
Burger: “We really needed to do a re-architecture on the tech stack and tool set and the workflow. It was great to provide the tool sets for the team to provide better stuff. We spent a lot of time shipping 4 and 5 then we got to take a step back and really overhaul the engine to be able to deliver on this efficiently.”
35:00
Host: “Burger, the Slipspace Engine, just in general is it carrying forward any pre-existing form the prior games or was it from a complete scratch rebuild?”
Burger: “Yeah there are still some foundations, it wasn’t a complete and total rebuild. It was a tear down of certain systems that didn’t allow us to scale out to the places we wanted to be. But there is definitely still coded foundation that came from… (He trails off) for an engineer who is on 5 and they came and saw this it would be pretty foreign.”
I won’t quote the whole stream, but they also go on to talk about how they sometimes bring in assist from 5 and use them in various ways.
I hope that sheds some light?
It sounds to me they completely overhauled the dev tools to be easier and more user-friendly. Also probably assist distance or the in-game expanse for the open world. Maybe even how halo has always had air battles off in the distance or number of AI being controlled at once. So we will probably get bigger battles

Are you okay? Do you need a hug?
Look man I’m a mechanic and in our world a new engine is a new engine. You don’t replace the crank case, cams, and a few hoses and call it new. Still the same engine, but now it runs better. Doesn’t leak oil. I imagine there are more dudes on here who know more about cars than game engines. And if they think like I do they will think that a new game engine means an engine built from the ground up or that is unrecognizable from the previous Blam! Game Engine. But from what I’m hearing from these employees is that it’s upgraded, its got new bells and whistles, but it’s still got parts from the old engine at the heart.
And if that’s the definition of a new game engine from your corner of the industry, cool. But from where I’m sitting 343i isn’t saying it’s a new engine.
Also read the last paragraph of my OP. That’s the real reason I posted. Not the definition of new

Honestly same. It took me a few rewinds to understand what was actually being said
Yeah, it’s pretty much the equivalent of Bethesda claiming to have a new engine every time they release a game, then when it comes out it turns out it’s just the same garbage Gamebryo engine again with all the same bugs it’s always had but sporting a new name.
I honestly haven’t seen anything impressive from this new Slipspace engine either. H2 Anniversary’s graphics look better than Infinite’s to me so far, and H2A actually ran at a decent framerate on Xbone. You’d think with them hyping up their “new” engine this much the game would look drastically better than its predecessors.

But see that’s excatly my point. I don’t think 343i has actually ever used the word “new” when talking about their engine. I think it’s all been media and word of mouth over the internet. I do agree with you on like how Bethesda says it’s a new engine. I think a lot of people are hyping up Slipspace as this new engine, but it seems to be more of the fans doing that than 343 themselves.
Though I do disagree a bit, the engine does look better. It has little graphical improvements such as lighting and how vehicles and object interact with the world around them and being blow to hell hahah. Like how the Warthog gets different forms of damage depending on where it gets hit and by what. But some of the physics are a little off compared to other halo titles. Like the hammer doesn’t blow things away for example.
