Slayer vs. Slayer Pro

Hey all,

I recently (i.e. this week) came back to Halo 4 after stepping away for a few months, frustrated to no end by the removal of static weapon spawns and the inclusion of personal ordnance, instant respawns, mods/upgrades, etc. After checking out some of the playlists that were added while I was away (i.e. Snipers, Multi-Team), I ventured back into Infinity Slayer.

The first of these games was a Slayer Pro variant on Simplex, a map which I had never played before. I have to say, in spite of not knowing how to really play that map, I had a ton of fun. And I think this is why: without armor abilities and personal ordnance drops, the game just felt so much more like Halo. If it weren’t for the Scattershot and Railgun spawning seemingly every 15 seconds, the game would’ve been perfect.

The next game was standard Slayer on Scythe. The contrast was pretty stark. I rushed Sniper top mid at the start of the game and was controlling that until I got wrecked out of nowhere with an Incineration Cannon… smh. So. Much. Smh. It was utter chaos all over the place.

So, I guess I’m just wondering what you guys think at this point. Has 343i finally almost got it right with Slayer Pro? Or is there still a long way to go to bring Halo 4 back to being Halo?

Hey, you!

I don’t like it. At all.

Fast respawns, slow shields, sprint and no pickups ruin it.
It’s not like H2 and H3, it’s a bargain for those “veterans” who just want that old game with better graphics. Which would be fine for a separate playlist, but I seriously hate being forced into it in Big Team. Gotta admit, Settler is okay.
Oh, and no radar. I know: “use a mic, etc.”. But I’m one of those lazy guys who just want to chillax after a hard day.

AND, after more than a decade of Halo, you could expect new features and evolution. Yet, some people still cling to the old ways, which just can’t compete nowadays. I love the older Halos, but I appreciate the try to introduce new features. I’ve played enough with the old stuff, why would I waste money on exactly the same thing every year?

And I’m not alone on this one. “PRO” (“Retro” would be more fitting) used to be Team Throwdown, but the population got too low.
-> Proof that the majority of people actually enjoy the new features.

I can totally understand your point of view, and I think a lot of your statements are valid. I don’t, however, agree that the low population of Team Throwdown proves that “the majority of people actually enjoy the new features.” It might prove that the majority of people who still play the game like the new features, but that’s only because most everyone who didn’t like the new features already left for good within the first 8 months after release.

@lordotto

If you like the new features which make the game play different than older halos than you dont really like how the older halos played so its a fair opinion but…

The most popular halo games were 1, 2 and 3, unlike most games that release newer titles, the newer titles were less popular than the older ones, logically this means that more people liked the older halos.

Also halo 1,2 and 3 did innovate perfectly each iteration without affecting the core gameplay.

Its not clinging to the old ways, its enjoying something that you enjoy, when something you enjoy gets completely changed then naturally you no longer get to enjoy that thing hence why this is the lowest population for halo multiplayer. Reach even had 70k-100k most days till H4 release

Slayer Pro is fine, it just needs it’s own playlist.

> @lordotto If you like the new features which make the game play different than older halos than you dont really like how the older halos played so its a fair opinion but…

I can’t disagree more with this. While I prefer the classic settings, I still very much enjoy the new Infinity settings.

> Slayer Pro is fine, it just needs it’s own playlist.

Agreed. I hate it in the sense that sometimes you don’t get to even vote for normal slayer, because all 3 choices are for slayer pro. To me, it removes one of the flagship elements of the game: your radar.

If it got it’s own playlist, I might play it occasionally, for a change of pace. My normal playlist is Big Team Infinity Slayer, and I enjoy it. But when all 3 map choices are Slayer Pro, I tend to cringe. I enjoy Halo, and Halo uses radar, and if you don’t like it, go play another game. Simple as that.

I’m not trying to be like Adam Orth, and say “#dealwithit”. He was pushing for changes, I’m defending what currently exists. I do enjoy the occasional Slayer Pro, but not when I’m looking to play BTIS, and I get stuck with Pro instead.

+1 for Slayer Pro being it’s own playlist.

True, “Conventional-Halo Lovers” have left the building. But where have they gone? I hear many went back to Reach, because H3’s population is too low. But how is Reach more conventional than Team Throwdown? Personally, I pretend there was never such a thing as…
Oh, well! Forgot the name!
(^_-)

That game’s population should outclass Infinity Slayer and Big Team Infinity Slayer, if the old fans just left H4 for older Halos. But it doesn’t. They left the franchise completely, phhh…
Proof, that even them don’t really like that old stuff nowadays. Or do you see MLG playing H:CE now? Because those people complain how it was the best Halo ever, and yet - they don’t play it frequently.
(-_-)"

Personally, I did enjoy the old Halos. Please don’t try to put words into my mouth. Or other things. But eventually I got bored, because it was the same, over and over and over again. Every match. And over again.
If that R-game had been enjoyable, things would be different, but it was just awkward. So, I enjoy H4 because those new features actually work here. It has many flaws, but at least, it’s something new.

Honestly Slayer pro is a good gametype (but Throwdown can go die, lol.) but I dislike it showing up on Regular Slayer and definitely despise its presence in big team. It needs its own playlist because BTB was not made for it though plays well in the eyes of I bet many people.

I very much dislike you now.

You really need a softer dislike than “I hate it.”

I like slayer pro, but no motion sensor + sprint on small 4v4 maps = incredibly frustrating. I get flanked ridiculously easy, often by someone who just spawned, also play as a random btw.

Btb slayer pro is awesome though, no complaints now that motion sensor is back to prevent rampant ghost splattering

All these people spoiled by motion sensors need to learn to talk to your team, or if they don’t have mics try turning around every once in a while.

This may be a shock to people but if you turn around, the person coming up behind you can’t assassinate you.

That’s not proof of anything. Why would MLG do Halo:CE again? There would be no money in it because it’s “old”. Doesn’t matter how good it is.

And people that want to play CE with other people don’t have many options. You can set up a LAN(which can be a huge pain), play on XBC (which sucks off-host) or play the PC version.

Infinity Slayer is heavily flawed, Slayer Pro is somewhat better but bland.

No one wants to play an extremely stripped down game. But it’s necessary because of what the developers put into it.

> And people that want to play CE with other people don’t have many options. You can set up a LAN(which can be a huge pain), play on XBC (which sucks off-host) or play the PC version.

The PC version also sucks because the netcode is horrible and no one has done anything about it.

But I suppose the PC version would at least play well on a local network.

> but Throwdown can go die, lol.

The only major difference between Throwdown and Pro are the maps used.

Why would I learn to turn around if I go into Big Team because I want radars? I don’t even play on 10 sensitivity, so turning around frequently, while I can expect a freshly spawned enemy sprinting to my position is out of question.
And I already covered your mic argument.

MLG doesn’t play Halo anyway, so why not play the older Halos for fun? They play H4 for fun, though.

I refuse to play Slayer Pro & will back out of a Lobby if it is winning the vote…
Also now I will use the network option to get out of every JiP as I have no idea if that is Slayer Pro or not!

I used to back out of JIP games of Slayer Pro if I was wanting to play BTIS, until I learned 343i’s limited computer can auto-ban for that.

Slayer Pro is better than Infinity by far. If Infinity gets voted for in big team, especially if it’s on Settler, I back out. I just can’t bring myself to play Infinity gametypes regularly now.
SP still isn’t as good as classic Halo, though. What would make it play better is decrease the radar to 25m and fix the spawns for weapons and vehicles. They’re just stupidly fast now.

I just hate how Slayer Pro is in infinity slayer. While I don’t like infinity slayer all that much, it’s the closest thing I can get out of Halo 4 to ordinary slayer. Sometimes, I just want to sit back and play some slayer, but unfortunately 343 hasn’t made a basic slayer gametype that either removes loadouts and ordnance or just removes ordnance, and slayer pro in the playlist just makes it even worse. Come on, 343, it’s extremely easy to make a basic slayer gametype; I can do it in less than a minute by just taking out personal ordnance! Also, even if I use a mic for Pro, the majority of people who are on my team don’t use a mic. Hell, many people quit, and because of the JiP modifications to accommodate for CSR, it prevents new people to join. Yes, I know that a lot of people hate join in progress, but it’s nice to have in a casual playlist like infinity slayer or big team. It can be modified in more competitive playlists, but leave it alone for the more casual playlists. Take CSR out of some of the more casual playlists, and this shouldn’t be a problem.

I’m also sick of playing on MLG type maps like Simplex or Scythe for infinity slayer and so on. I bought the game, and I want to play on maps that came with it. Sure many of the maps in game aren’t very good, but they’re not on Reach level to the point where we have forge maps completely take over the rotation. Also, speaking of map rotation, why isn’t there a “none of the above” option when picking maps or gametypes? It was perfect for if no one liked any of the options brought out, so why was it removed?

The point is, take Pro out of infinity slayer, put it into throwdown, replace it with a basic slayer gametype with variants like team BRs, put less emphasis on competitive forge maps for casual playlists like infinity slayer, and change the name of the infinity slayer and Big team infinity slayer playlists to Team Slayer and Big Team Battle! I’ve been taking a long hiatus from this game simply because of all these problems. The game either frustrates me, or bores me now…

Your poll has an option that compares it with Halo 2. Just letting you know, nothing will ever stand with Halo 2’s multiplayer. Period.

I quit pre patch, that was an abomination
