Slayer Onjective. Yummy mixing

We like Slayer. And we like Objective games.

It’s been done before, but it’s rare and not it’s own playlist or even gamemode. It’s an idea that says “Hey you can win by getting kills, but if you go out of your way to do something special you’ll get a good reward for it”.

I’m talking about Slayer Objective hybrids. Everything from Slayer CTF, Slayer Assault to Slayer Oddball and Slayer KOTH. Infact any Slayer mode (Team or FFA) mixed with any objective game.

How it works

There is Team or FFA modes. But since it’s all the same I’ll just talk as if each game is a team game (it’ll make my job easier).

First you would pick the type of Slayer (Team of FFA) then you have a list of objective modes to mix it with. For example Slayer CTF.

Points and value

Because you can dish out ten kills way before you get a cap or arm kills are always worth 1 point (unless customized). Some objective pointing is simple, others however are more advanced.

CTF- (100-150 points to win)
Capture=25 points (3-0 score is instant win)

Assault- (100-150 PTW)
Arms-20 points (3-0 score is instant win)

KOTH- (200 points)
Points per second- 1

Oddball (150 points)
Points per second- 1

Territory- This one is a bit complicated. Owning a territory doesn’t gain points per second, It makes each kill worth more points. Such as

1 territory= 2 points per kill
2 T’s= 4 points per kill
3 T’s=6 points per kill

And so on. If a team has the maximum territories (8 lets say) each kill will be worth 16 points. But note this is Halo 2 style so they can be taken and retaken, stolen and lost. And most maps will only have 5.

Well that’s the basics. I like the idea. It’s not too complicated and I think it does show good amount of skill and teamwork. I mean a team with good defense and good teamwork can easily win due to killing. However if a team with better offense and tactics can beat them with a few caps or arms.

Well flag slayer existed in reach, i’m not sure if it’s still there now. But slayer KOTH would cause alot of camping unless you get a seriously high amount of points for maintaining the hill. Slayer Assault might work. Slayer oddball would also have to give you alot more points for holding the ball than kills for it to work, or people would just camp the ball spawn. They could work but the objective would have to give alot more points than kills to make people still want to actually try to get the objective. If they could get enough game modes working and balanced they could put in an “objective slayer” playlist.

Not just slayer + objective, I’d love to see slayer + objective + objective, possibly having as many objectives as players desire.

I mean, I personally think it would be incredible if you could have slayer going on, and have flags and bombs out at the same time. That would be amazing.

Actually, I think BF3’s Conquest mode would work pretty well in Halo. It’s sort of a mix between 3 Plot Territories and Slayer. Reversed, so you start with a lot of ‘reinforcment tickets’ and every spawn costs one of those, and you also lose them if your team owns more than half the territories.

Man I wish I had Megalo scripting access…

I need BF3 to be honest.

And having Slayer+Objective+Objective could be cool

Like a Assault mixed with CTF. Or KOTH mixed with CTF, ETC. Could make some amazing games

how about dynamic objectives? Each objective is picked randomly, and lasts 5 minutes each. There’d be a small intermission between objectives, putting the focus back to killing. The kills earned will give the player bonuses. Imagine. First 5 minute’s you’re playing CTF, the next 5 minutes you’re playing VIP.
Things would mix up pretty crazy if team randomization would be put into the mix each time the objective changes. The match can easily last more than 30 minutes, without ever getting dull, because the environment/goal keeps changing.

Gross.

Dynamic Objectives sounds like a Halo 4 drinking game haha “Every change=A shot”

Basically like warzone from Killzone. I would play it. Invasion is alright but lacks compared to dynamic objectives.

Exactly. Killzone 2 was such an underrated game. Sure, it had a hell lot of input lag, but its gameplay aspects were just amazing, and dynamic objectives hit it out of the ball park. It’s a shame that no other game implemented the idea, a warzone type mode is beyond head and shoulders above the average gametype in terms of fun and depth.

Funny thing is that Bungie teased that feature for Reach in a podcast but never actually delivered.
