Skyrim or Mass Effect?

So, I asked my friends what to get. Some of them said Mass Effect 3, and some of them said Skyrim. We had a long talk about the cons and pros of each game.

According to my friends, Mass Effect 3 is much better if I have played number 1 and 2. They say things carry over which is kind of cool. Then of course there is the story as well, obviously.

Mass Effect, I know the you play as Commander Sherpard, and that your actions have great impacts on the game. You can also romance one of two ladies, one of which I believe is an alien. The biggest enemy in the game is the Reapers, which sound unstoppable. They say it has many RPG elements, more so in the first game than the second though. However if one goes around and does all the side quests, it enriches the game and provides lots of hours of gameplay.

Yes, I have heard the ending was terrible. However I have also heard that they are making DLC to “fix” it. Depending on when the DLC comes out, I may or may not have finished the trilogy. So, I might never have to experience the ending most people were annoyed with.

Skyrim I already know enough about. I have Fallout 3, so I can assume that it has improved gameplay and graphic (obviously). You are Dovakiin, the one they fear, and you kill dragons to save Skyrim. There is also a civil war going on between the Empire and the Stormcloaks. Skyrim, if anything like Fallout, should provide hundreds of hours of gameplay.

I also keep hearing of DLC but no one knows what it is.

So both options can provide tons of gameplay, and I hear they are both really good? Which one should I get?

Alternatives are welcome, such as renting/borrowing one game.

Skyrim easy.

Mass Effect 3 was fun to play through for a bit, but then became limited and repetitive – also the story and ending is crappy imo.

Help choosing would be great guys

If your looking for a game with lots of replayability and lots of story go Skyrim, but if you’re looking for something with a medium amount of that and something you can play with your friends I would go with Mass Effect.

Mass Effect has co op! I thought it was a single player game only…

Skyrim. I’m still playing it and its on the 360. Would have gotten it on PC, but the one I have sucks. Update 1.5 is coming to consoles. The update adds new kill cams and bug fixes. So by the time you play it you should have better experience.

skyrim…If very retro and i love it for that reason.

Mass Effect for sure

I recommend the Mass Effect trilogy. I have not played the third one yet, but I LOVE number 1, and thought number 2 was also great (Did not enjoy the story as much, and they took away a lot of the RPG elements). I do love Skyrim, but after about 150 hours, I grew bored, and am having trouble getting back into it. Since you said you like Fallout 3, I would recommend New Vegas over Skyrim. New Vegas also has a few great DLCs too, such as Old World Blues and Honest Hearts.

EDIT: If you are playing on PC, I change recommendation Skyrim, as modding is now super easy and can add MASSIVE amounts of content to the game.

Mass Effect trilogy.

I for some reason can’t get into Skyrim, where with Oblivion, I can play for hours and hours.

Honestly, if I were you, I’d grab Mass Effect 1 and 2, and when you’re ready, Mass Effect 3.

You can buy ME1 off the marketplace for I think 20 bucks, which isn’t too bad at all.

Mass Effect that is all, it is the greatest RPG i have ever played

Yeah, right now you can get ME1 and ME2 for cheap, and I think Origin might have some deal going on.

Now I can’t say any thing about Skyrim, I’ve never played, and don’t plan on getting it, but Mass Effect, I first got Mass Effect because I was bored, and wanted to try something new, so I picked up Mass Effect, and enjoyed the story line, killrraider13 said that Skyrim had better replayability but Mass Effect also has replayability, but the key is you got to get into it, first time I play, I do speed runs, and do only the main stuff, second time I do as many missions as I can, which is fun. Also, if you’re into reading books, I suggest you pick up a few of the novels, and read them, there is one novel that you need to read before playing the game, because it really tells the story of things that happen at the start of the game. Plus so far Mass Effect Trilogy has more DLC than Skyrim right now, you got one or two DLC for ME1, 4 story DLCs for ME2, and so far one Story DLC for ME3, all of which I enjoyed. The only thing that bugged me was the ending of ME3, it wasn’t Mass Effect Trilogy worthy, ME1’s Ending was epic, ME2’s Ending was Epic as Well, if not better than the first game’s ending, but ME3’s, it wasn’t as epic. It was like throwing 3 random grenades, 2 of which was real life Frags, and the third was a Smoke grenade.

Mass Effect.

Firstly because it’s sci fi, and I don’t really dig fantasy unless its LoTR.
Secondly because it’s arguably the most ambitious, and well executed “game” ever made.
Thirdly: it just so damn good.

I’m almost done with ME3. And although it has its problems…most notably lacking interaction (and therefore more emotional feeling) with your teammates like before, and being a bit too much action orientated for my likings opposed to a more even RPG-Action balance. It sure as hell is a truely epic game.
And I truely came to realise you can’t see the 3 games seperately. I mean, I always knew that. But playing through the last part…BioWare pulled off a Lord of the Rings. Being able to split a story in 3 parts but really making it feel as 1 whole.
And NO OTHER game has done that before. As much as I like Halo. As much as I like any other of my favorite games. If I had to pick 1 game to name as the most complete, most satisfying, most engrossing and certainly best trilogy in games, it will be Mass Effect. Without a doubt.
Sure, each of the games has their own distinct style…and their own flaws. But the sum is larger than its parts in this case.

Truely a master piece of a size where I don’t see Elder Scrolls come even close to (although, admittedly: it is a great series…just not my kind of RPG).

Bsically OP is your looking for something thats open world where you can roleplay easaly and explore go for skyrim

if you want non- open world but with a detailed/interactive story etc go for mass effect. both games are -Yoinking!- awesome btw

borderlands. I got bored of skyrim after exploiting the 100 smithing + 100 enchanting to max my armour rating(878 with that dragon mask you get in the snow covered building). even on master difficulty it takes a giant a long time to kill you.

Anyone else want to share?

Both games are great. Skyrim is roughly at least 70 hours of gametime before you’ve exhausted everything there is do in the game, and then you can start over as a completely different character if you wish. One of the best games for a long time.

The ME trilogy is my favourite set of games this generation. It’s awesome. The first one feels rather archaic now though, but the second one still plays nicely. But the ME trilogy is best described by it’s gameplay being better with each game, whilst the storyline gets worse. The bad thing about ME is that in ME3 the ending as you’ve probably heard pisses over the entire trilogy. It’s that bad. Your decisions in the end mean squat. It’s kind of sad. But with ME the funny thing is it’s less about the main enemy who get hardly any development (and then in ME3 is revealed to be… Well… Plotholes, inconsistencies, and leave you thinking “SERIOUSLY?”) but more about the characters you meet, and the ME universe. It’s easy to get attached to.

I recommend waiting for ME3 to be done with their obvious DLC, then get the ‘GOTY’ edition if your not desperate to play it.

If you want a good story driven game, get Mass Effect.
Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3 are all amazing games.

I would recommend them to anybody.

I was more than happy with ME3 until I got to the last 10 minutes. shudders

Skyrim was so awesome on the PC though that I had to buy a second one. Sadly the last PC game I bought before Skyrim was Republic Commando, so now my gaming computer sucks.

Still Skyrim is a good game and it can give you lots of different experiences. Until I know for sure that Bioware is fixing the ending, I’ll say Skyrim. However if they fix the ending to ME3 than I might have to side with Mass Effect.
