For those who might not be aware, you can activate any skull in multiplayer, not just the fun cosmetic ones.
This included:
+25% resource gathering - +50% unit build time - +50% unit ability recharge time - +50% leader ability recharge time - +50% unit healthIt of course effects your score multiplier at the end of the match, but if you’re just playing to win, it really breaks things. And the post game stats don’t show when people activate their skulls either.
This is a pretty big oversight on 343i’s part, and I pray it gets addressed rapidly.
0__0 holy crap you’re right. since it is custom games one could activate skulls in their favor. Although, if I can find a nooby player for a 1v1 I would like to see if I can beat them activating the skulls that benefit them.

I believe all the non beneficial skulls only affect ai. So I mean it would make base expansion harder, but that’s about it.

It is because they made every feature of a custom game implemented online.
If they did a simple beta test or gathered feedback as most games do these days like their sequel then they woukd of had feedback on the server browser.
This is what happens when companies don’t do market research they have got to address these things.
It is a shame as the game looks awesome, frame rate is great too, they took two steps forwards and four steps backwards.

12% have unlocked the second rank
9% have won at least one match on each map
2% have unlocked the dlc achievements
2% have unlocked general
a few months after release (dec 2009), they have lowered the required xp for rankUp. from ~3.200.000 for general to 960.000 - and 15.000 for second rank instead of 80.000
it was a nice game, but it had too less players, somethimes under 100 available players. (maybe a region-lock problem)
343 has seen this and acted like this.

Oh yea, I’m well aware of the problems the original game had. I was probably one of the very few people that got the full 1500 GS in the first game.

I have missed one rank before i found no players. This was completely incomprehensible to me, because i really liked it. But apparently there were too many prejudices and stereotypes. Regarding RTS and controller. (like m/k vs controller)

I didn’t start playing till a couple years after release and never had any issues finding players on the main playlist. The expansion modes we’re always dead.

Well, you can be glad that you count to the few lucky ones. The facts, acts and data speak unfortunately for themselves.
It worked really fine for the first few ranks (with high xp requirement) but then… nearly nothing. (rapidly after the first dlc)
idk wheter it was a bug in matchmaking, true skill, region lock or something else, but something was wrong with it and 12% for the second rank & 2% for all dlc achievements isn’t really much. Maybe they have fixed it after a long time, but the starter-playerbase is/was gone.
Example: 32% have played 1 match and 12% have unlocked rank 2(of 8) in hw… while 75% have unlocked level 5 and 12% level 50 (of 100) in gow3. (hw 2009, gow3 2010)
This is a huge difference in the willingness or possibility to play online. That’s why i can understand that they try another way with hwde. (senseless work, and hw2 is coming too)
Regarding to the skulls… so far i remember, can you see that the other player has skulls activated, so that you can join another game.

Skull’s are activated after the game starts, there actually isn’t any options to activate skulls prior to the start of a match.

Oh okay, that’s not so good. thought it was visible and selectable before the game starts. Haven’t played online with hwde…first the last few campaign achievements…have only checked whether i can find games on pc… and yep, a few, enough for early access g
But btt…then they should fix it, because it is clear that the most players will activate their bonus skulls.
They could disable it - they could require an agreement with the other player before it is then activated for both players - or they could display it as i thought.
But anyway, I’m happy that they have added achievements for offline matches.

(for example Heroic-KI rush in under 10 minutes; or also 3 vs 3)
Also the match is displayed in the statistics, but not counted as such.
Seems that players who use skulls in multiplayer are only deceiving themselves. They get red heads when they have completed their 100 fakey matches and don’t get their achievement.
I have tested it for 3 different achievements… for 1 achievement also twice. (rush)

You can activate skulls for MP achievements. I did it for just about all of them, including the map specific dlc ones. I also boosted about 20 of my wins against bots using skulls and the achievements popped for them.

i will test it later without skull and will see whether i get the achievements.

nope… i don’t get achievements with activated skulls (and bots), but it works fine without skulls.
even the wins with the different leaders doesn’t count for the achievement… i need to replay with the first 3 leaders.

i don’t know whether it’s only on pc, but also the achievements for campagin doesn’t work with skulls. i have unlocked nearly all sp achievements without skulls before (missed one gold medal and the heroic time things) And now i have just tried to beat the open time-achievements with skulls and the last gold medal.Was in time and got gold… but no achievements and the own %value of it is not higher than before.
it works fine, when i disable the skulls.
also the mp achievements which i have talked about are now unlocked… without using skulls
wins/matches are also counted in the xbox live app, but not for the achievement percents - only when i disable the skulls does it grow.
example: i’ve 20 wins regarding to the ingame stats and xbox live app but my 10-wins achievements was only 4 wins ago. the difference are the skull matches - Fehler - abload.de
