I’ll admit, I loved the trailer with Chief and the giant Forerunner thingy. I’ve seen a lot of threads recently asking what’s with the cloak he’s wearing. I myself am wondering too, and I like the theories people have.
And then I thought to myself what if the cloak is significant for other reasons?
Then it hit me!
Chief isn’t wearing a cloak. It’s really the tarp from the Majestic Map Pack!

Well it was established that the tarp is OP so it’s possible it has other functions than just keeping sand out.

Maybe he’s trying to take a page out of solid snake book and is using the tarp in place of the box to hide in.
