When scrolling through my armor I noticed something with Fotus and Deadeye. It looked like they are the exact same armor the only difference is, what I would call, a skin added. I started looking around a little more and discovered that Aviator and Locus Edge are very similar as well. Locus Edge is basically the same, but literally, slightly larger than Aviator.
I took screenshots, while in the customization lobby, of these armors from three different angles to compare. I wanted to see what you guys thought, as well as express my disappointment. These should NOT be pawned off as completely different armor sets. Especially with Locus Edge being “Legendary”, and it is almost identical in every way expect for it looking literally larger than Aviator.
I believe this is a good example of why this whole REQ system should not return for Halo 6. They are obviously having a difficultly coming up with new armor designs and whatnot. Did I miss an announcement stating that some armors would be so similar, that they could essentially be the same armor, but they gave some reason as to why they are pawned off as different.
Even more, do I now believe, that 343i needs to take a step back with the whole armor unlocking system. Give us armor that we earn through achievements and time played. Not this endless illusion that we are getting free, new DLC with loads and loads of armor that we have no interest in (Seeker, I’m looking at you).
Here they are for comparison:
I would suggest opening them in separate tabs that way you can click back and forth to see the depth of similarity. Am I wrong guys? Isn’t this kind of messed up that these are passed off as new armor instead of skins for set armor? Even in the descriptions of these armors there is no indication that their functions are similar.
P.S. Apologize Aviator screenshots were coupled in the stance lobby. I meant for all of them to have the armor description as well.
Some armor and helmet pairs were helmets-only in Halo 4, so they ended up reusing another armor to go with it. Lazy? Yes. Can we do anything about it? Not really.

We can bring attention to the fact that we don’t like it. That we hope to have a different unlocking system for the future.
This is also an excellent reason not to buy REQ’s with money.

Dude, that’s what I’m talking about, and gave examples of! The more I think about it the more it pisses me off.

It is most definitely important to bring this to the attention of 343 so they don’t devolve this system into the supply drops that Black Ops 3 has adopted. That is the last thing we need with the many other existing issues of modern halo at this point.

Haha, if only.
Look, I realize armor is a superficial thing, and in the grand scheme has very little to do with how the game is played. However, this armor thing in Halo 5 is the main item in these REQ packs. It’s like they’re expecting us not to notice or even care.

I noticed this ages ago, 343 need to make the armours more diverse.
Dead eye, Locus, Scanner and Strider are Just Helmets. They never had body armours. Its not a new thing either Halo 3 had the Mk 5, ODST and Rogue, and Reach had way more helmets then body pieces. So for the sets they reused some pre-existing armours. there are still more unique bodies and heads then in any past Halo game.
Halo 3
Spartans
11 helmets
7 Bodies (8 if you count Katana)
Elites
5 Helmets
1 (5) bodies (there are 5 but they are just the same but with different bits attached)
Halo Reach
20 Helmets (21 if you count miles eva as separate from normal eva)
1 Body (16 if you count adding a grenade belt or a robot arm to an otherwise identical armour to be a completely new armour.

Okay, I see what you’re saying, but in those past Halos did they try and couple the helmet with a totally"new" set of armor? I really don’t think so, but I could be wrong.
I don’t want more, more, more armor if this is what we are going to get. It seems like they are adding quantity over quality.

I’d rather have 20 well designed and realistic looking armor sets than 216 pieces of space plastic I don’t even care about…
Reach is my all time favorite Halo and I see why other people have a problem with this, guess it’s just a thing of personal preferences, but in my eyes reach had the best armors and the best unlock system of any Halo game (okay it lacked the ability to unlock things trough achievements) and I mean seriously take a look at it’s armor… Everything looked like it was designed for super soldiers, it made them look like a walking tank (okay I agree some sets were to bulky), it added a tactical aspect to them with all the attachments and equipment you could add, the color scheme was awesome too… And seriously am I the only one who dislikes Halo 4/5’s art direction (in terms of armor)? Every armor has a fancy description and backstory but what about some attachments and stuff like comm equipment or ammunition? It looks so unrealistic when Spartans go into battle with plastic looking suit without anything on it, from where do they get the extra ammo? Knifes? Grenades? And so on…
Okay in reach all of this didn’t effect gameplay too but you could at least pretend your Spartan was well equipped.

Reaches armour polarised people because when you come down to it it is one suit with different mods. if you like the suit then good for you, but if you didn’t then you were screwed. personally I think Reaches Mk5b looks worse then the Mk6 from Halo 3 and the Recruit from 4-5.

Putting the art style aside for a second…
Helioskrill, Mark VI, Centurion, Argus, Hunter, Helljumper, Technichan, Mark IV, Enforcer, Reaper, Scout, Recon, Fotus (not the biggest fan, but well designed), Hermes, Noble, Locus (helmet), Pathfinder (body), Stalker, War Master, Defender, CIO body, and more all fit your qualifications for well designed pieces, even if we eliminate fotus for being unrealistic. There were helmets in the other halos that some people likes and other didnt, im not arguing how much I like any if these. There are at least 20 well designed armor sets that fit realistically into lore.
THAT BEING SAID, I’m really dissapointed that only ONE of thse is new to halo 5. Im sure there are more, but i couldnt remember them with the massive amount we have. I think their concept of “make 78 armors, people will find one they like” defiitely worked, but at a cost.

wouldnt rly call war master, locus or defender as “well designed” but thats just my opinion. other than that most of those are ultra rare or legendarys anyway…
would be better if the armors would have the reskins as soon as you unlock instead of 4-6 variants of every armor / helmet.
