Skilled Based Match Making in Halo Infinite

Exactly… seems like they just want to be granted the W because they are normally this good in ranked, and should be this much better in social. So they go there to beat up on people… when they really just need to relax and play it for what it is.

I absolutely love BTB because I go in without a single f*** to give. Hell, one person typically cant control a 12v12 anyway.

But afterall, just because its all “social” doesnt mean completely remove SBMM. Maybe ease up a bit, but retaining those newer players is everything. Getting smashed wont do that

Yes. Social is supposed to be a mixed bag of whoever the servers can get.

The best matching of skills is when both teams have a good player, two average or above-average players, and a weak player. LAN parties going back to HCE always had this mix and worked out well.

Social should also have this mix, then Ranked should be all similar ranked players.

It’s not the easiest thing to do though when players go in with 4-player parties. And, there will also be the under-rated or over-rated player which happens in most handicap-based activities.

SBMM has existed in shooters, even in social playlists, since well before Halo 2. Halo 2, 3, Reach,4 and 5 all have/had SBMM. Under no circumstances should SBMM be outright removed from the game. It works. If you want to talk about the parameters under which is ought to work then by all means spread some opinions, cite data and give feedback.

In my own opinion I think the SBMM can be a tad bit harsh in some cases, like I got a match full of absolute push overs and then in the next match was shredded. That can really stink but it’s not entirely what I would call common. I’ve been playing since public flight no. 1 and I can only think of that one time when SBMM felt really stacked against me.

I’m diamond in Ranked, but that doesn’t mean I always want to play that way. Sometimes I want to chill, have fun and experiment and not try my -Yoink!- off every time I hop in social. Right now that can’t be done and it’s because of SBMM. If I do any of that, I go horribly negative and it makes the game unenjoyable because I’m constantly dying to people who are sweating their -Yoink!- off in social.

SBMM should always exist but only be primary algorithms in Ranked playlist and secondary to Regional/ connection based matchmaking in social playlists. Regional is key to latency issues and a better game experience.

I’m not a great player, I’m only platinum rank 4 or something I’m really not too sure
(Rarely play ranked due the latency inconsistencies)
But I would regard myself at least as an experienced player to the Halo scene.
I almost always finish with a positive KD, If I’m not MVP then at the very least I’m the best on my team,

yet…

I almost always lose the game every single time because my 22 kills 6 deaths wasn’t enough to carry my team mates with each less than 7 kills and 15 deaths or more.

This is the beauty of growing older and no longer having a squad.
I understand the game is meant to match above average skill players with lower ones for team balance so that the low level players don’t get mopped the floor with each game.

But for the player with 20 kills a game and losing every match in a Slayer game type it feels like punishment and It actually steers me away from certain playlists.

sbmm should work based on the player’s average KD, not the last 2-3 matches (hello Call or duty). You merge 2-3 battles and you are immediately at the top of the table in terms of frags. And now you are thrown into a match with a cyber alien with 30 kills and 2 deaths, where you as a whole team are trying to kill only one of them and you are not good at it. This game is like a beating, and if you leave such a match, you are blocked for 10-15 minutes. You just can’t get into the game. In other words, the developers tell us: we will make you suffer! suffer! cry! Suffering 24/7! And all because we decided to make an idiotic selection of players

If you’re playing social why do you even care if you win or not? You can play Mangler only or try to learn to use the Commando or whatever you want. The only issue is the players you’re doing this against aren’t going to be brain-dead rubbish at the game and make it easy for you.

People want to mess around in social and still win, with good scores, at the same time. Doesn’t work unless you’re a top tier player.

Yeah I’ve currently got a post up talking about how crossplay needs to be disabled as I always end up against pc players these days

I’m a mostly PC player. I’m not at an advantage over you. If we met in a game and I won it wouldn’t be because I’m on PC. Likewise if you won.

PC players are disillusioned with this game because we don’t like to use controller. The majority of us still here are playing controller like you.

Why are you here? Your post was in mine if your following my account to start problems I’m sure the moderators will take a harrasment problem very seriously I dont have time nor will I have time for a pc player like yourself causing problems

In fact keep it up maybe itll show the devs the actual problem between pc and console. How when pc is called out as a whole there is always one of you to step towards us console players like this where you follow us from topic to topic to keep stating how you dont have an advantage. Those that continue to spout that nonsense are either a below average on the gamer tier or b know damn well what their advantage is and dont want it to disappear. We were doing fine for years without crossplay let’s keep it that way

You have some serious issues. I’m posting on a Halo forum responding to other comments like everyone else. Have you taken your meds yet today?

I’m on PC, Switch, Series X and PS5. I’m a grown adult who plays videogames. I’m not interested in platform wars or such childish rubbish.

If you’re in Onyx then you’ve won plenty of games. You’re in no position to cry about PC players holding you back. You still dreaming of going pro son?

Edited because F 343

That’s why BTB is my favourite mode. I can contribute as much or as little as I want and the game will play out anyway. Sure I could sweat out my mind to secure a few wins that would have been losses… But I don’t care.

If your play style is different in social to ranked - which most peoples are so. Then surely the Social SBMM should be separated from the Ranked SBMM…. However I don’t think this is possible to do.

i don’t know about BF2. there is a problem of matchmaking but i think it’s related to the lack of player or configuration( bug), or skill value of each player, not the SBMM itself.
i don’t call you liar, but its hard to believe a random matchmaking does a better job to balance team than a dedicate system intended for this.

i dont think social and ranked use the same scale ( maybe the system system). in ranked, you have to play 10 game before the system put you in a specific bracket.

crossplay is a different topic but i would like to remember the risk of splitting a community like with a DLC,
most of the time, you don’t want it. a good example are wow classic. crossplay on halo have its issue but a lack of player is even worst in my opinion.

I get that and agree to a certain point. My friends and I are Onyx and Mid-tier diamonds. That’s why I am proposing a looser SBMM… But even our F***ing off is better than a silver player trying their butt off. The skill gap can be large at times.

True but what happens when the issue that would split the community causes an even greater player loss whereas giving an option to turn it off doesnt end the player base and has the potential to bring back the console player base and extend the pc player base to more using both m&k and controller
