Personally I’d like to see rank 1-50 or similar for skill based rank return for ranked playlists, similar to Halo 3.
-
I would also like to see social make a return so NO rank has a place too, progression systems are welcome here too.
-
Progression systems can work with “Standard Halo” playlists AND include skill based rank too.
-
NO progression systems but include a skill based rank (1-50) for “MLG & Classic” playlists.
-
Progression systems with NO rank for social playlists.
All can coexist side by side happily. Why you all complain about this and don’t expect 343i to be catering better than Reach or Halo 3 ever did is beyond me.
Just look at the 343i Reach title update, anniversary maps, anniversary settings, Zero Bloom and playlist updates, 343i get it more than Microsoft/Bungie did recently.
Halo 4 will deliver the best of both worlds mix thus covering the highest percentages of the populace.
I think my take on playlists above caters to each sub-community very well while not alienating any of them, what do you think?
Ranked (which should make up most of the playlists IMO) should use a skill based ranking system similar to the h3/h2 system or maybe, which i think 343i will use, is the BPR (battle proficiency ranking) would both work.
The basic progression system should also be representative of skill, i would have it just like Reach’s however take out the slot machine and game complete bonus’s completely so it would just be based on commendations, winning, and performance. And punish people who quit or betray people by deducting xp from them (a significant amount too) Punish derankers (which IMO wasnt ever really a big problem) by keeping the 10 minute ban on people who routinely quit games except make it progressive so it would go from 5 to 10 to 20 minutes so on…
-do not match players in SOCIAL playlists by skill social is social, the basic progression system is strictly only meant to SHOW skill and unlock things
the end…
I would love to see a 1-50 system Return .
Also exp & exp per playlist or progressive that shows how much you play each playlists.
I hate how how the Rank is only the amount of time you play / not related to skill in anyway

I’d like to see some differences between the ranked playlists by having AA’s and progression for Standard Halo 4 where MLG & Classic do not have progression or AA’s etc.
I’m happy with taking out the slot machine but keep bonuses for performance, medals and winning etc.
Totally agree with keeping quit penalties and deducting XP/Spartan Points. I don’t think the quit ban should be progressive as there are some issues with poor Internet services so that group shouldn’t be penalised by poor Internet access.
However, I disagree about your Social Skill comments, TruSkill should remain in social with loose parameters and party matching etc like Reach. There’s nothing fun about facing 8 private chat practiced teams against 2 x 4 splitscreen kids playing Halo for the first time.

Rank is fun for the competitive types but needs to be split to classic rank and Halo 4 rank with matching playlists and settings.
EXP per playlist may not work due to Spartan Ops & Infinity both contributing to progression unlocks etc.
The old Halo 3 Feeling would be better , just with the added speciality´´s and the graphics ofcourse.
And Earning credits for the armor should be also similiar.

If Halo 4 has the ranking system of Halo 3 in it, I’ll die a happy man.
I agree a skill rank is in order but perhaps per playlist/setting and maybe a contributed overall rank too?
I think we should have some kind of combination of Reach and Halo 3’s ranking systems.
I like BTB, but I don’t want to feel like I am getting nothing by playing it.
Perhaps there could be Cr that is not related to rank, but rather how long you play.
And then your rank would be based on your skillz.
Halo 3 had a god “ranking” system, the major flaw was that the social rank was tied to “ranked” rank, and a social player had to play ranked and be good at it to keep progressin in social, not a good system imo.
The rank (1-50, onyx or what ever) should only be used for ranked plyalists and have no impact on social/win/time spent rank, and the other way around. It would be cool to have a “social” rank for each playlist, as well as a “over all” rank decided by spartan points and such.
That way a player that plays a lot of BTB would still have a low rank in Team slayer, and have a reason to play TS, not to mention you would know who in social is “experienced” and who’s seldom played the gametype.

Your ideas are very similar to the number rank and playlist rank of Halo 3. Which I tend to agree with mate.
Mix in the progression, unlocks and Spartan Points then I think we can all agree skilled, social and player who spend time with the game all receive satisfaction and skill ranking.
