I was drinking the Halo 5 Kool-Aid just like everyone else this week. I thought it was balanced, and had a high skill gap, and was a return to form for the Halo series. That was, at least, until I went back to the MCC because the majority of my friends didn’t like Halo 5. What I found was that the aiming wasn’t fighting against me, jumps were hard to make, and timing power weapons took skill as a team.
The “skill” of Halo 5 is not in being able to out maneuver your opponents. It’s about learning to fight the controls better than the other person and getting the first shot.
There is a lot that Halo 5 does right. Ground pound seems like a great addition to the series. As does default thrusters. The focus on a more balanced multiplayer is great, and puts both the Reach and 4 systems to shame.
But sadly there are more negatives than positives IMO. The complete lack of any social playlists makes this game unplayable. Aiming is a constant battle. The motion sensor is useless. The REQ system doesn’t allow anyone to be badass, just lucky. Warzone is an unbalanced mess. The Campaign is short and all around is just mediocre.
Until they fix the aiming, motions sensor, and add social playlists that allow me to go into matchmaking with my friends of varying skill levels and have fun as a group, I’m not going to be playing it much. I will (hopefully) see you people in the MCC.
Your second paragraph sums up what I think the game’s biggest problem is nicely. It really comes down to who can fight the wonky controls better that determines the outcome of a gunfight. To me the aiming is the biggest issue.
Secondly I think there is a desperate need for medium sized vehicle friendly maps. I understand the dev’s thinking in holding them back in order to promote Warzone, but their absence has left a very noticeable hole in the multiplayer line-up, and I feel like it’s the biggest factor that’s keeping the MP experience from feeling “complete.” Arena is solid and it seems most are pleased with the way 4v4 is playing out, but without 5v5 to 8v8, Arena starts to feel like a grind.

> HA! You people are so hypocritical, I bet your one of those people that bashed MCC for its problems and now your hoping to see everyone there
I honestly could care less about social playlists but there is a population to warrant them. Also, the aiming has been proven to be broken and the radar is worthless because by the time it registers an enemy nearby they are in AR range (seeing as how the AR is such a powerful weapon now). It seems to be more about who sees who first and that makes it feel more like COD.
only thing I agree with is that their should be a social playlist (which there will be this weekend), and permanents will be added as 343 said.
the aiming is completely fine IMO, zero problems with it and i have maybe 40ish hours played? diamond ranked (not that it matters but it shows im not a total noob). I also dont understand how timing weapon spawns takes “skill as a team” when you just google how long it takes to spawn and then do simple math when you pick it up…
I love the game. With that said, If I could change some things, it would be radar first and aiming a very close second. As it stands I fear its going to push people away. I’m adapting and I will continue to play. But I’m really concerned the playerbase will drop considerably if no changes happen.
H2A has always been better than H5. Even the graphics are better… and the sound is more appealing for that matter. Just listen to that BR and sniper sound in H2A… perfection.
Gameplay is most important to me, and H2A stomps all over H5 to an embarrassing degree.
I can play H2A Lockdown and Shrine back to back all day and never get bored. The mechanics and abilities are timeless.
I honestly don’t see the problems you’re talking about. i got a chance t play quite a bit this weekend I think the aiming is just fine. No problem at all with the motion sensor. And Warzone is a total blast! I had so much fun playing that.

Agreed 100%. The motion tracker is worse than useless. Miniscule range and the elevation indicators are way worse than the fantastic ones introduced in Reach. How do you mess that up?
The aiming is atrocious. I feel like my weapons have a will of their own. It’s like trying to control a spraying firehose by yourself.
The REQ system is stupid, but at least it keeps the DLC free. Certain aspects of it annoy me, such as how much longer it takes to earn REQ packs by playing than it does to earn them in other games such as Battlefield 4 or Hardline (which I regrettably own). I can tolerate those things though. However, what REALLY pisses me off about the REQ system is that you can grind out a Gold REQ pack only to be rewarded emblems as your two permanent unlocks. This is sheer stupidity. We want rewards that enhance gameplay or unlock cool armor. Who the hell cares about emblems?
Warzone isn’t necessarily unbalanced from my point of view, it just requires too much coordination/communication to be played to its fullest. I don’t know why Halo players never use their mics anymore, it makes Warzone a lot less exciting than it could be.
The lack of social playlists bothers me, but it will be fixed in a month or so when they add Big Team. I’m sure more playlists will follow, but it’s ridiculous that there were none at launch.
Also not mentioned in OP’s post are the horrible disconnects many players are experiencing, including me. I have been disconnected from over 25 games over the past 3 days. I have ruled out my internet as the culprit and attempted every “fix” I’ve learned about to no avail. 343 needs to address this immediately.
