Given the info the OP gave here is what I assume the ranking system will be like. In going with the experience rank up like in Reach we will get letters as a rank, like A,B and C. You will get xp for playing games, completing challenges and so forth, much like Reach, once you get enough XP you will level up, from A to B or something to that extent.
For the skill based rank we will get a number rank, 1,2,3 etc… These number ranks will only go up based on your skill like K/D and games won and lost. If you win 5 games or have a consistently good K/D you will level up from 1 to 2 or something like that.
I believe they will combine these two ranking systems into one rank that is shown for yourself. We will most likely all start as A-1 and work our way up. People who play a lot of games and complete challenges will get ranks like B-2 or D-1.
People who are very good at games, win often and have a good K/D, but maybe only play a couple times a day will get ranks like A-7 or B-9.
I think the rank will be visible, but I am impartial to that, I don’t need to see my rank or need others to see my rank, but also don’t care if they see it.
I really think this will be the best rank system to date, it gives everyone what they want in one combined rank. What’s not to like? The competitive’s get their precious numbers and the casual people can rank up too in their own way.
It’s a win win situation for everyone I think. Hell, maybe the numbers even go from 1-50, just so everyone can get their nostalgia from the Halo 2/3 ranks.
Although with this rank we’re probably going to get arguments like,
“Hey bro! I’m a F-5 I have played this game so much, that makes me more experienced!”
“Oh yeah, broseph! I’m a B-30, that means I am more skilled than you!”
Although with any rank system we will have arguments about who is better.
