This will only take you 3/4 minutes to read, so please do!! I swear to god it’s worth it, and it will show you how close this game is to really being a great game!
I’ve been playing some halo 4 custom games with a lot of cool people who have taken the time to forge some old maps, and also to make custom games where skill plays far more of a part in the result of a game… and holy sweet jesus it’s amazing!
Most playlists that we play - Everyone spawns with AR’s, and BR’s/DMR’s and all other weapons are on the maps. You cannot just whip out a plasma pistol and take down a tank, you need to find one on the map. Also games require a lot more map control, instead of everyone killing each other across the maps with DMR’s.
If your opponents get the Wraith, you need to work as a team to push for the rocket launcher, and take it down. You also need to hold positions, and also to fight for the power weapons. It’s so much more of a challenging game if you don’t get incineration cannons in ordinances and blow everything up. That’s another thing - Ordinances only include things like overshields, speedboosts and some small weapons. No power weapons, which is how it should be in ranked games.
I think Halo 4, as a social game, is awesome. It’s really fun. I think Social playlists should stay as they are, where everyone just has a random fun time, we all just kill stuff, there’s no EXP at stake or ranks at stake, and we get beasty weapons in ordinances. That’s what social is supposed to be for!! Heck I remember in Halo 3 - Rockets on Snowbound! OMGWTFBBQ! XD
But there needs to be a skill based set of playlists. We need to return to the Halo 2 style of things IMO. It was so much more challenging and rewarding to get your rank up.
I know there’s a lot of you young guys on here that loved the Halo 3 ranking system, and a lot of people that didn’t get to play Halo 2 during it’s prime, so you will all most likely select Halo 3 as your prefered style.
But trust me - Halo 2’s style of ranking was better. I played for 3 years, and only managed to get to 35, and that was in one playlist. It was so much more difficult, and if you saw your rank go from a 32 to a 33 after a match, you and your party would be so damn happy. It felt like an achievement.
On Halo 3, getting to the mid 40’s was far too easy. I went into team games by myself and managed to get into the 40’s. On Halo 2, you had to find 3 other players to go into team slayer with, as to get to the higher ranks, you needed a good, solid team behind you once you got passed the 30’s, unless you played Rumble Pit of course, which was FFA.
P.S. - If we’re gonna have a ranked set of playlists, NO REGICIDE! Make it standard FFA slayer!! It should be who is the first to 25 kills, not who kills the highest scoring player the most. That sucks!
