SKILL BASED PLAYLISTS CAN MAKE THIS GAME!!!!

This will only take you 3/4 minutes to read, so please do!! I swear to god it’s worth it, and it will show you how close this game is to really being a great game!

I’ve been playing some halo 4 custom games with a lot of cool people who have taken the time to forge some old maps, and also to make custom games where skill plays far more of a part in the result of a game… and holy sweet jesus it’s amazing!

Most playlists that we play - Everyone spawns with AR’s, and BR’s/DMR’s and all other weapons are on the maps. You cannot just whip out a plasma pistol and take down a tank, you need to find one on the map. Also games require a lot more map control, instead of everyone killing each other across the maps with DMR’s.

If your opponents get the Wraith, you need to work as a team to push for the rocket launcher, and take it down. You also need to hold positions, and also to fight for the power weapons. It’s so much more of a challenging game if you don’t get incineration cannons in ordinances and blow everything up. That’s another thing - Ordinances only include things like overshields, speedboosts and some small weapons. No power weapons, which is how it should be in ranked games.

I think Halo 4, as a social game, is awesome. It’s really fun. I think Social playlists should stay as they are, where everyone just has a random fun time, we all just kill stuff, there’s no EXP at stake or ranks at stake, and we get beasty weapons in ordinances. That’s what social is supposed to be for!! Heck I remember in Halo 3 - Rockets on Snowbound! OMGWTFBBQ! XD

But there needs to be a skill based set of playlists. We need to return to the Halo 2 style of things IMO. It was so much more challenging and rewarding to get your rank up.

I know there’s a lot of you young guys on here that loved the Halo 3 ranking system, and a lot of people that didn’t get to play Halo 2 during it’s prime, so you will all most likely select Halo 3 as your prefered style.

But trust me - Halo 2’s style of ranking was better. I played for 3 years, and only managed to get to 35, and that was in one playlist. It was so much more difficult, and if you saw your rank go from a 32 to a 33 after a match, you and your party would be so damn happy. It felt like an achievement.

On Halo 3, getting to the mid 40’s was far too easy. I went into team games by myself and managed to get into the 40’s. On Halo 2, you had to find 3 other players to go into team slayer with, as to get to the higher ranks, you needed a good, solid team behind you once you got passed the 30’s, unless you played Rumble Pit of course, which was FFA.

P.S. - If we’re gonna have a ranked set of playlists, NO REGICIDE! Make it standard FFA slayer!! It should be who is the first to 25 kills, not who kills the highest scoring player the most. That sucks!

Does anyone else agree?

Please read other threads before posting one about the exact same thing.

It’s not that nobody agrees, it’s that about 100 of these threads pop up a day.

And yet nobody from 343 will ever read them! Sorry OP but the Waypoint forums are not the place to be discussing Halo.

They’re all being read, studios put far too much into their games to not read forums.

However, 343 has taken a more silent approach to the community forums. They put them here to solicit feedback, but you won’t get a reply from a Dev like you may with Blizzard.

Don’t think they aren’t being read, just don’t expect the acknowledgement that they have been read or passed on by a moderator/community manager.

I agree with everything you say but apparently Microsoft now insists that all games that have a numbered skill leveling system use Trueskill (Halo 3) so it is impossible that halo 2’s ranking system will be brought back. However I think Trueskill is fine too.

I really hope you’re right

Trueskill cares about your Wins to Losses, not what objectives youve taken or what bases you’ve captured. Therefore if you start off losing its going to match you with lower and lower skilled players. Look at my post, it may be on the 2nd or 3rd page (If TrueSkill Works Then Wtf is This). Even Halo Reach matched me up with better teammates than Halo 4 does. Its rediculous how many games I’ve lost due to bad players.

Philliesfan, that’s how it should work though IMO

The best way to avoid poor team mates is to find 3-4 players to play with and go into games with them.

I like how you say “I swear to GOD” and your username
has 666 in it. Thats kinda strange.

Is there are reason for that? lol

But yes i agree that a skill based ranking system would make this game.

I really think just a classic category with like 6 throwback playlists would
be game breaking too.

They should have this.

Classic Throwback <— Category

Playlists:
Clas Team slayer
Clas FFA
Clas Team doubles
Clas BTB (with objective gametypes)
Clas Multi-team
Clas Fiesta

I think if they had a category like this like the ones in reach
with different playlist then it would ultimately save the game.

A competitive playlist is a dream of mine! I just pray that it is done right and if they do bring one into the game at all kids will start to use their damn mics. It is so frustrating to play these social playlists solo with people who don’t have any mics.
