I’m sure this has been stated much before, but the PvP aspect of this game is in dire need of skill based matchmaking. I play PvP solely for challenges, as I do with lots of games. I’m very very casual as a gamer, and yeah, I’m really bad at PvP it would be nice to enjoy PvP more though, whether it be social or comp. Getting sniped from insane spots, airshot by someone with godlike aim, or cross-map grenaded, it gets pretty irritating. I just wanna add my voice to the matter that casuals matched with casuals and insanely good PvP players matched with others like them would make this so much better. Thanks for reading this if you did, hopefully it helps the cause and gets 343’s attention.
(Note, I played a game of comp and experienced this again, causing me to write this. It was a king of the hill game in H:R competitive, ended with 250 for the other team and my team getting murdered with 11 points in all)
Sbmm would kill this game. The population is low as is and it’s split 5 ways. And also why a lot of people stopped playing h5 it’s nothing but sweaty games if you are good
I too would kill for skill based matchmaking as I’m a not particularly skilled casual player who LOVES halo. Howeve Bobross is right that the population is just too low, which is unfortunate since games with far less fun pvp have booming populations cough destiny and fortnite cough

Sbmm results in long search times for good players and sweaty games 100% of the time i know people who don’t want to play sweaty 100% of the time and it’s why they stopped playing h5. Also halo has a higher skill ceiling than fortnite. Plus the graphics of older games don’t impress the younger generation even though the gameplay holds up
It does more than holds up. I am appalled by how completely un-entertaining modern shooters are compared to this series. And yes it sucks that unskilled players can’t get matched with people in their class, and that skilled players are constantly playing esports level matches. The solution is a bigger player count but it’d be nice if there were some band--Yoink!- on the situation at least

Mcc playerbase is made of complete noobs or 20 something year olds who has played the game since they were kids so they know it inside and out. Old school halo punishes bad play newer games don’t punish as hard. One screw up and you lose a BR fight. The solution is like the old school days, make friends work together you will get better at the game. You will get crapped on along the way but that is the path we all went down. The current generation doesn’t think this way
I’ve been playing halo since I was 12,I’m 30 now, I learned a long time ago to keep chat off lmao. I’m probably as good as I’m going to get, hopefully cross play will widen the player pool a bit

My thought is this.
People who make montages on YouTube have a lot of different gamertags.
These days you only need 1 gold/gamepass subscription to have 3 or 4 names you can play on.
I have friends who do this for insane kill feeds. The kind that make killingmanjaro look easy.
New gamertag has a really high chance of pulling newer players in. It’s a flawed system in this aspect.
360 you had 3 free 1 month accounts on a new xbox360. I sold boosted lvl 50s.
It’s easy to get railed by these people.

Are you playing ranked, or social? You know what?
It doesn’t matter. Might as well make it all social playlists with the exception of 4v4 team slayer
Skill based matchmaking exists in both social and ranked. In social it is hidden and the restrictions are extremely loose, while in ranked it is much more strict. That being said, you have to understand that these games have had a dedicated player base for a very very long time and a large portion of the community will be much much better than newer players. It will take some time, but eventually you will pick up tips and tricks, understand the game better, and move up in skill. You are going to get slapped a lot first though, its the only way to get better
Im agree with you, in competitive matches they put me with people with rank 12 and im just 1, at least they can put both sides balanced but no, all the high ranks on one side.
They said that is because the population but i really dont believe that invasion have low population.

The matchmaking in ranked gives you a +/- 10 to the highest rank in the party. If you are a 1 you can match up to 11. If you are 21 you can match 11-31 and so on. The game prioritizes the closest games possible. Population is the biggest reason you dont find games that are level 1 typically, thought they do still exist.
Invasions population is definitely too low to not have open party matching. In invasion you can match any skill level from 1-50 regardless of where you are. I have helped 4 people get their 50s in invasion and im telling you, we have waited in the search for over an hour before to find games. If they put skill restrictions nobody would find games past level 15

You’ve gotta stick with it. The sbmm system in comp has to get to know you to place you in the right spot.

Hey don’t say that you can always get better, but you actually gotta try at it, not just play the game(watch videos, re watch games and see what you did wrong, play with or against better people).

It wouldn’t kill the game unless it was insanely strict. Most game’s have soft filters that loosen gradually if it can not find enough eligible players. Very few games have extremely strict, hard filters where literally only players of the same rank or bracket are eligible to play. The population is low enough at this point that the skill based filtering would essentially not exist. It would potentially add more time to searching for new games, but in practice it would make zero difference to the quality of opponents.

You cannot get a game of invasion with a team at night because of sbmm. And damn searching solo that’s a bad idea.

OK, but is that because of hard filters or is that because of an insufficient player pool? Is invasion ranked? We know the answer if we know the size of the player pool.

Ha thanks, I do watch videos and try to play as well as I can, but I use this to get away from work so I don’t go as far as making it feel like homework lol. I really just wish the player population was bigger
