I just wanted to try and bring attention to the fact that it feels like social modes seem to have fairly strict SBMM (Skill Based Matchmaking) to the point that they feel as sweaty as ranked. Fiesta, Quick play, and Team Slayer especially feel like this. This strict system makes it hard to just get in and chill without getting rolled and having to try hard constantly to have an enjoyable time.
This is multiplayer and the idea that it isn’t ranked does not and should not mean that you shouldn’t have to try as hard or that the rest are sweaty.
Start sweating man.
Or perhaps you don’t and shouldn’t play multiplayer at that moment?
Or try single player or try a co-op game etc etc
However, this convo about SBMM being bad needs to stop.
What else to you want other than easy wins? and unbalanced teams so you can have a “relaxing” competitive time? Not possible. It is either competitive or it isn’t.
That is the only logical outcome.
Even with SBMM in social I still get unbalanced matches. Yesterday I had quite a few games where I was hard carrying, and the rest of my team had less than 10 kills, with one guy only having about 2 and +10 deaths.
But the entire enemy team was pretty similar in skill.
I guess the “balance” is that my MMR is raising the overall low MMR of my team to equal that of the opponent, but it usually just results in me “sweating” more than I should for an unranked game, or a pretty easy win for the enemy since my team has the equivalent brain capacity of an amoeba.
This is not necessarily the point of SBMM tho.
There is no such thing as truly balanced matches.
This is the issue people struggle with.
If you are always paired in “balanced matches” then you aren’t truly ever being tested.
Same with players of less skill.
You must be judged in each type of situation.
“balanced matches/unbalanced matches/Matches were you will more than likely lose or more than likely win”
If you don’t experience all of these then how can the game probably judge your skill level?
Such a toxic response. OP isn’t saying he wants to relax and win every game 50-4. A TRUE social playlist would have you absolutely dominating sometimes. Getting dominated other times. And having 49-50 games here and there. OP is saying that EVERY game feels like it’s down to the wire sweating your balls off and that’s NOT was social should be. The only reason SBMM is in social now is because crybaby losers who stop playing if they lose a few games in a row by a wide margin
There’s two ways I like to play multiplayer. One is sitting with direct attention to the action, my senses attuned to the happenings of the match, I am responsive and rapidly adjusting my rhythm and approach to the changing circumstance and opposition’s tactics.
And then sometimes I like to kick my feet up, lean back in my chair, put a YouTube video or some movie/show that I am passively watching/listening on my other monitor while I play. As a result, I’m just not wanting or in a position to be trying as hard. My performance in kind just drops significantly.
The problem here is that I can rarely enjoy this game very often in scenario 2 because of how matches are prioritized in the playlists. Sure, I can take the L and die a bunch because I want to chill, but the problem is that you can FEEL the sweat when someone is engaging you in combat a certain way. Rapid fire shots, very forceful and twitchy in their movement. You can feel opposition trying to win with effort, so that in turn makes me want to sit up and play like that - and by extension my teammates. And I JUST don’t want to play like that sometimes, it stresses me out when I’m not in the mood. Fiesta rests as the current avenue for me to chill out in, and I have to hand it to you, I get tired of fiesta.
I hear people in these forums go on about that this is unquestioned good that we are always prioritized on skill. I HAVE to honestly ask you, because sometimes ya’ll make me feel like a space alien or something , would you say that you play at the same skill level anytime you’re playing the game? Is there not a sizable difference between your performance getting on a ranked match with intentions to climb or just hoping in a random scrim for fun or challenges? Are you honestly always playing your best? Because I don’t always play my best, and it would be hell for me if I did. All I’m asking for is a place where I’m not main-staging a random quick play.
I mean that’s fine, but that kind of thing should be reserved for Ranked, as the name implies.
I don’t want every game to be a slaughter in my favor because that’s just boring, nor do I care to lose matches against clearly inferior players because my team is even more inferior.
I like to win, but when I’m playing Social, I also like to just kick back and relax. Games are supposed to be fun, first and foremost. And the previous examples I’ve given are far from it. If I want to “sweat” I’ll be played Ranked.
it isn’t toxic. you guys are pampered these days man.
That is what you are asking for.
Saying that a TRUE(all caps) social playlist would have you absolutely dominating sometimes does NOT disprove what I said.
Get out your feel feels and reread.
Say’s WHO???
This is NOT what social feels like tho.
This is actually illogical and you should reread what you wrote.
sorry but i am not rude or toxic. You guys are pampered and PRIVILEGED and think you feelings outweigh logic.
Far more of my matches in social end 49-59 than say 50 to 40 or something. To me that’s just not what I’m looking for in a SOCIAL game playlist. To me, losing a 49 to 50 game is WAY more sweaty and frustrating than losing 50-35 when I’m just trying to kick back and play.
But how exactly do YOU just get to sit back and relax…if others and myself DON"T want to?
see the issue?
I’m not trying to be a jerk but saying that isn’t what social or rank should or shouldn’t be is not accurate.
ONE IS RANKED.
That IS the difference.
The game must be the game.
This inconsistency must stop.
We have single player and co-op for relaxing and fun experiences.
Rank is tracking our stats and grading us for our performance. NON ranked is not.
That is the difference.
How do you make it possible otherwise?
This is why game modes like warzone/firefight etc are needed…because without them then people want to alter the core game.
The core game is an arena competitive shooter…we are competing.
One is non ranked and thus less serious because nothing is on the line.
The other is ranked and more serious as it showcases and compares with tangible outcomes.
It isnt meant to be rude.
but how do you just kick back and play…if the other people aren’t in kickback mood?
get it?
so now we would have to have a “kickback mode” and a quick match to warmup/practice/play alone AND a ranked/sweaty list?
No man.
Just play something else to kick back on?
I see this as an issue of not having single player co-op/firefight/warzone etc.
There is no natural kick back and relax mode for you to play…so you would like to alter the other to make it that…I simply do not agree and why should the overall matches suffer…when you could simply turn the game off and play something else?
Again…not shaming.
I also like to sit back and relax and that simply isn’t available outside of single player right now…so…
again, not trying to be a jerk.
I can kick back and relax when the game isn’t forcing people into matches to make sure the final score is as even as possible. I can kick back and relax when I know that I’m going to lose some big and win some big and have a close one here and there. As it stands now the game FORCES you into super even competitive matches. And that’s not fun in social. It’s fun in ranked. Not social.
This is the same situation halo 5 was in. You want to play casual play a alt account and make sure that alt accounts stats are trash. Ranked should be strict social should be match whoever you get. You can game sbmm in your favor
So if nothing is on the line, why shouldn’t I be allowed to just kick back? Your statements are contradictory. Competition is usually what I categorize as “fun.” If someone chooses to sweat in Social, that’s their own prerogative.
What isn’t fun is the aforementioned issues that Social presents. Don’t know how many times I can say it. Social still tracks your performance, just to a lesser degree than Ranked does. The only real difference is you can’t “see” your MMR, unless you do your placements. Playing Social before Ranked is how I managed to place at Diamond 1 and not lower.
Regardless, I’m not saying Competition isn’t fun. You seem to be glossing over the issues I have with Social.
The reality is that this is only possible for an average player - right in the middle of the skill curve.
For a good player. Onxy for example. They are too far to the right of the curve. Matchmaking is never going to serve up a game where they get dominated.
What we really need is three playlists;
Ranked = tightly matched around the individual
Social = looser individually - but closely matched teams.
Chill = no ranking at all. Make it a drop in / drop out mode where there are no scores or K:D. The game never ends. You just drop in and play for as long as you like.
This to me would just be an incentive to get better at the game. To lose less. As it stands now there’s no incentive to get better because the game is going to force you into 49-50 matches and you’ll only ever win half your games or slightly more. How is that fun?
And in this pipe dream of a social playlist you’d be just as likely to encounter an onyx as you would a silver so what’s the issue of making that happen?
One sided stomps aren’t the issue. The issue is getting paired with 3 trash teammates when you’re pretty good, against a full team of average players.
Even if you do really well, you’re still likely to lose because your team absolutely drags you down and just feeds the enemy, or doesn’t know proper objective play. That’s the issue SBMM has. It considers the game “fair” because your high MMR coupled with your team’s low MMR matches up with the opponents average MMR. This ironically means you have to carry and sweat MORE than you would in ranked.
If I don’t have sweat dripping from my eyebrows after 15 minutes of Fiesta in Halo, I stop paying $100 for cat ears to keep the servers on and go play Fortnite immediately and never look back.
Nobody wants game modes to play that are just silly casual fun. You’re crazy if you want that.
