Skill Based Matchmaking in Social is Single-Handedly Dismantling EVERYTHING in Season 3

New season, new 12 player MLG Tournament Matches in Big Team Battle. Wanna go play their featured game mode to level of the event pass? Total and absolute sweat fest void of all the fun that was originally intended. Every single game mode and every inch of gameplay currently in Halo Infinite is the most inorganic, repulsive, un-fun experience I’ve had in years. Hundreds of days later we finally get a ton of right changes from 343 to give us all a better gameplay experience and overall experience from Halo Infinite, and SBMM destroys 100% of their intention.

343; it is absolutely time for you to remove SBMM from Social. You have done so in Ranked and now it’s time to take it out of Social entirely. Option 2 is to have it a toggleable option.

I’ve uninstalled this game and have absolutely no intention of playing under a Digital Dictatorship. 343, please do the right thing and if it is out of your hands, you need to fight like hell to get it removed. Enough is enough.

Let’s Make Halo Great Again.

Had a few frustrating games, but majority of them have been good, and close matches.

They haven’t removed it from Ranked at all. They’ve just tweaked how it works.

I for one am a big fan of SBMM in social game modes. I don’t think Infinite does it as well as it should but I truly believe this game would have died off even more without SBMM.

If they added a toggle it would just result in matches between the top level players anyway (Kind of SBMM without actual SBMM). Everyone else who doesn’t want to get curb stomped in most matches would end up turning it back on.

The difference between Custom games where people of all skills join and have fun and matchmaking which forces me to play with 3 teammates that are seemingly playing the first game in their life expecting me to carry is so massive that I can’t stand to play matchmade games for longer than 5 minutes. It’s boring and annoying.

???

I only managed to play four games before having to head to work. First was 49-50, then 44-50, 10-11 (escalation), and finally 0-3.

I lost all four games. And wouldn’t have been a positive KD.

But they were all pretty close games. Even the 0-3 in KOTH we held at least two of the Hills for all but a few seconds to score the point.

Sweaty games are actually really fun. You just have to let yourself go and not get hung up on the result and/or your personal performance.

It’s much better than stomping people. Or being stomped upon. That’s rubbish.

Umm. They didn’t take it out of ranked at all. They just changed the matching to CSR based. But ranking and team matching are still based on MMR.

Not sure where you got that from at all.

Playing video games for the fun of it is the point. Yeah you may be carrying them but at least they are enjoying the game.

Apologies.

But just running through your HaloTracker… and I don’t see a lot of evidence of carrying anyone.

You do have a W/L of 66%, albeit from about 50 games. And your KD is barely 0.9

Also I don’t think the concept of SBM is bad it is just hard to make perfect. Some games that really nail it are really fun.

Yeah. There is always room for improvement.

But no SBMM is a bad option.

It’s sad to think that this could be our last SBMM thread here on Waypoint.

:frowning:

If OP makes false assertions and statements, he is missing the point.

If he claims that ranked doesn’t have SBMM, he is just wrong and he missed the point about the change in ranked.

If he claims that existence of SBMM destroys the game, even though devs have studied it and the opposite is true, then he missed the point. (Rare itself already experimented with this on H5 by turning SBMM off for a period. It resulted in more people quit playing, the people who still played, played for a siginificant shorter period per session and way more complaints about the matchmaking)

So yes, you can miss the point if you make a conclusion based on wrong facts.

And all of this has already been pointed out on this forum multiple times by multiple people. If you then still make those claims, you clearly missed the point…

You’re looking at ranked stats and I don’t play ranked my man. Tried some way back when infinite launched and never again. Look at overall, but even then I mostly hang out in customs and these trackers don’t count custom matches.

Yep, he made a mistake there. You’re kd in ranked is indeed 0.91, but in social it’s 1.87 i saw.

So you see I’m paired with dudes with low KD and I’m expected to do most of the work, but I want to relax and have somebody carry me for once lol. That’s why I stick to customs and mostly play FFA, I’m usually middle of the pack there and that’s how I would rate myself. You get a nice spread of skill levels in customs which I like a lot better.

Oh yeah, i do see that problem. The SBMM in social is way to weak, it just picks 8 people and then just try to balance the match as much as possible with those.

But it should limit the skill gap between the players. It should pick random people around your skill (and then obviously still balance the teams, because there would still be a skill gap).

This is also why a lot of people likes the matchmaking in ranked more, since it’s more balanced, not just between teams, but between individual players too.

Obviously you could still bigger skill gaps in social if you play with a friend that is way more/less skilled then you, but at least then they is partly a choice (partly because you could match with or against 2 such players who teamed up), but that is the exception that makes sense. But then the other players should still be around the skill of those players or somewhere in between.

I have even had when i played with a friend who is bronze, that i got matched with an onyx player… That is the entire spectrum… And it was not like it was in off hours.

So SBMM in social definitely needs tweaking. It should limit the skill gaps more and their should also be a lil bit of party matching (i have nothing against a duo and 2 solo’s against 4 solo’s, but a 4-stack against 4 solo’s is problematic)

I tried a singular match of ranked and I never played Ranked again unless I was forced.

There’s just no point in trying to compete against PC dudes with MKB that can track and shoot you from a great distance with ease.

Lol what’s your solution? Throwing together random lobbies? You won’t be happy when you get smashed 18-50 instead of losing that close 47-50. Yea you may get to enjoy a 50-18 landslide victory here and there but then the other team feels like how you feel getting smashed.

Ranked just uses csr instead of mmr, which is also flawed as with the new season, you have people with onyx 2000+ playing true plat 2s until the onyx 2000+ players play enough to move up. But the csr matchmaking is likely better in the long run than mmr.

It’s always the mnk players if you’re doing poorly?
Players weren’t good with snipers before Halo Infinite, or at long range overall.
