No it’s because little kids can’t handle losing and be made fun of because they suck and shouldn’t be playing the game anyways so all of us have to suffer becusue of them when they can just mute us or go play their campaign or spartan ops or whatever
> Yes but the game will lose a significant chunk of its population because of this, as trilogy vets will feel there is no incentive in the game.
I felt an incentive to win and play in CE, because the game was amazing. Not because I needed someone to see my rank.

That is completely wrong. The incentive is still there. You still see your rank and the incentive to win and increase that rank never left.
These days, most gamers play games to earn a rank just to earn a rank and brag about it.
Halo 4’s ranking will almost be nonexistent to OTHER players which isn’t even really a big deal. All that matters is that YOU are still able to see YOUR rank and progress.
> No it’s because little kids can’t handle losing and be made fun of because they suck and shouldn’t be playing the game anyways so all of us have to suffer becusue of them when they can just mute us or go play their campaign or spartan ops or whatever
You can’t seriously be old enough to play this game.
> No it’s because little kids can’t handle losing and be made fun of because they suck and shouldn’t be playing the game anyways so all of us have to suffer becusue of them when they can just mute us or go play their campaign or spartan ops or whatever
You have a really twisted view on things don’t you?
> Yes but the game will lose a significant chunk of its population because of this, as trilogy vets will feel there is no incentive in the game.
The “incentive” is to try to top those that have similar or higher rank to you weather you know the other persons rank or not doesn’t matter, you know they have similar skills to you and you want to top them and prove yourself to be the better gamer (for the competitive people)
> These days, most people play games online to earn a rank that is displayed to all.
while that is true, there is still a ranking system for a visible rank, that allows people to rank op at their pace and speed, obviously better players will rank up faster and try to get to higher ranks faster, thus providing more of the said “incentive” to play.
> Many left Reach because rank was meaningless, and in Halo 4’s case, may as well be nonexistent.
and many still play reach (myself included) because it is fun, and i do not boost my rank so it still has some meaning to me.
> Also, if you yourself can see your own rank, how is that stopping people from bragging about it? Once people know the ranks, they’ll still attempt to exploit the system for personal gain.
I am not stupid, I know people will still brag, but my point is that it isn’t meant to be bragged about, it is simply meant to keep from being a large skill gap in matchmade games.
(IE for your entire post: people that might not play as much will have a lower visible rank, but their “true skill” rank shouldn’t suffer for their low visible rank, and they can still get paired with people of similar rank.)
> No it’s because little kids can’t handle losing and be made fun of because they suck and shouldn’t be playing the game anyways so all of us have to suffer becusue of them when they can just mute us or go play their campaign or spartan ops or whatever
seriously dude, please leave, you have no right to make fun of other peoples play style, you play your way, other people play their way, 343i is simply trying to satisfy both styles of playing.
I think it sounds pretty great!
That’s fine! I love people that love to screw around and not be competetive sometimes I do it but do you have to completely strip everyone else of that freedom when u can just mute everyone?! Then u hear nothing no insults nothing and everyone’s happy but… NO. Can’t do that. I would still have to look at my rank compared to everyone elses and be ashamed cry
Btw to all you who think 343 is trying to keep bragging rights is completely wrong that is no where near their intentions are to stop cheaters from boosting becusue if they can’t show their rank why would they buy it to just play good players? So stop defending that 343 is taking away somthing almost everyone loves because of cheaters

Seriously bro, the insults aren’t the problem. the PROBLEM is SKILL GAPS, the hidden true skill system is supposed to be eliminating SKILL GAPS
> Btw to all you who think 343 is trying to keep bragging rights is completely wrong that is no where near their intentions are to stop cheaters from boosting becusue if they can’t show their rank why would they buy it to just play good players? who cares if everyone else can see your true skill rating? because I’m sure they don’t care what your skill rating is as long as they get to play people close to what their skill rating is. I wont give a flying -yoink!- what your skill rating is, as long as there is no major skill gap like there tends to be in reach and some times even H3.
I completely disagree. This ranking system does not cater to the competitive community because competitive players care about bragging rights. Why the heck do they go to MLG events? So they can say they won this and that, and have BRAGGING RIGHTS. What I want to know is how a VISIBLE ranking system can hurt unskilled players. Seriously, what was wrong with the 1-50 system in Halo 3? I’m assuming players who were level 1-49 were just frustrated they couldn’t reach 50. But that is the point, to make visible who is the best of the best. People who play this game competitively will work hard to achieve what they can SHOW others. If there is a ranking system similar to Reach, I will not purchase this game as I will have no “drive” to play to achieve, as there is nothing to achieve that another 13 year old who just got off MW3 can’t.
As to the catering to casual players, if you are so casual why do you even care about a number next to your name? I think the term “casual” is a facade, as casual players will not give a damn about some number next to their name.
As to “Visible ranks can cause cheating, and revive the Halo 3 Hacking/Booting/Account sale scenes.” This is prevalent in every single skill/time based video game ever made. Did this stop WoW from creating rare items? Did this stop Diablo from having a leaderboard? Absolutely not. They instead came up with anti-cheating systems, which worked best to their ability. Halo 2 and Halo 3 had an amazing ranking system that gave the game that competitive aspect. You can not take this away in fear of a bunch of 14 year olds with no lives. They are not smarter than you 343i, I believe in you.

While your post IS logical, you are missing the point, you can still BRAG about what your “true skill” rating is. Its just that it is not going to do much as it pairs you with people of similar or same skill rating anyways. Thus the competitive players will likely get paired with other good or competitive players, and the casuals and poorly skilled players will be paired with casuals and poorly skilled. Its a simple match making strategy, your incentive to compete lies within wanting to beat the people that are same or similar rating to you. To prove yourself over them. It majorly closes the skill gap found in reach and some times H3. While the casuals that still want a good MM experience can stick with playing with the casual players in MM. The new “true skill” system caters to everyone, and besides, if your “true skill” rating means SO MUCH to you and you want everyone to see it, just make your true skill rating your tag so everyone can see it. I personally don’t care what other peoples “true skill” is because I know it will be similar to or the same as mine.
And I never at any point said I was a casual player. I am a mix of both competitive and casual. I like to have some games where i just go all out and try to win, and other games where I just like to relax. My skill is average as far as halo goes, I am not terrible, but I am not amazing, and I am fine with that, it means I can still improve, and I intend to improve my skills and become a dangerous player to play against, I already have games where I get 20+ kills, and other games where I cant even get double digits, and everywhere in between. I do plan on Improving my skill. and please don’t make fun of casuals either.
Just thought you guys should know that this Rank info comes from some RANDOM guy on THC forums. theres a video were we see the words “frankie has just reached rank a-7”
we know that it’s not frank’s profile bc why would it be talking to him in 3rd person??? Here is the link Link
343 hasnt finalized ANY concrete ranking system, they’ve even said they arent done making one, that they are trying different things out. So why would they disclose information like this to some random kid at RTX? They wouldnt. we know 343. They are vague, secretive, and like to keep us in suspense.

WTF is THC? and I wasn’t at RTX, I just pay attention to the bulletins and the info given from videos. And I take info from the fact that their is a DUAL ranking system, the fact that frankie said they are going to cater to competitive AND casual alike, and the fact that he said the skill gap will be decreased by a lot. I took very CLEAR hints and logically applied them to the said dual ranking system. and came up with a very clear and more than likely accurate conclusion. if you would pay attention to all of the H4 info released thus far instead of stopping at what you don’t like and talk bad about halo 4 you would have more than likely came to the same conclusion as me, GOOD DAY TO YOU SIR!

You have valid point there. Indeed it’s true but you’re looking from the non competetive side of this. The non competetive people are happy but if you were to reverse the situation it’s as if not only would your skill rank be there but in lobby it would also show your kd to everyone and next to your name if you don’t have a 1.0 + KD or somthing it says you’re terrible sell your disk BK! And next to the people will good KD it says you’re amazing your going to PWN NOOBS! That’s the opposite way. It should be neutral for both competitive and non competetive, with hiding skill rank you are favoring non competetive… Which is unfair since we all payed for a game we enjoy. Hope this makes more sense to people
I actually enjoy being able to see how good my opponents are, or at least have a general indication before the game starts. Every time I jump into reach MM its a crap shoot and nobody knows if the hidden matching system is actually working.
There’s nothing wrong with visible ranks. It makes the game more enjoyable and gives it a higher replay value. The only problem is the dev’s faulty ranking systems which can be gamed. Instead of innovating and fixing the problems they’re dodging them and coming up with -Yoink- excuses.

LOL! okay pal, first off The Halo Council. Secondly where, where, please tell me where in my post did I talk bad about Halo 4? You sound like a defensive little girl, calm down.
The info was about the ranking system was released via a forum on THC. That isnt evidence of ANYTHING. You might have your little half thought up opinions about this issue, but dont come on here trying to belittle other people’s opinions. My rationale is just as logical as yours as I gave my thoughts about the topic.

I didnt go to the halo council for my info, I used OFFICIAL information released by 343 in their bulletins and in their videos that they themselves posted and the videoes that they officially released at E3 to come to my conclusion about the trueskill ranking system
