Hey, Gamertag Vampyre0422 here! Ok, lets get on with this, I have been seeing people all over the place complaining about H4’s “Hidden Ranking System” and other people are simply skeptical about it, I am going to try to clear up all complaints about this ranking system.
Ok, For starters, people are succumbing to the common assumption that the hidden ranking system is something that needs to be in the open and give bragging rights, this is entirely FALSE.
The hidden ranking system serves one simple purpose, to try to pair you up with people that are of same or similar skill level to you. The reason this system is remaining hidden to everyone except you so the casual players that don’t really care about “true skill” don’t have to worry about some one coming in and just wrecking face and then bragging about how they smoked the people that are only playing for fun.
This is what 343i is trying to tell us by implementing a “dual ranking system” on one hand the casual players who are just playing for fun get a rank based on their pace in gaming, while the new “true skill” system is in place to pair you with people that have similar skills to yours and can provide more balanced game play, not so you can brag about it.
So this new dual ranking system is in fact catering to both the casual AND competitive community. So I ask that people please stop complaining and bashing on the hidden rank system.
Thank you for your time Halo Community, I hope that I did a decent job of explaining the point of this hidden rank system. I will answer any uncertainties that people have and try to clarify further.

So basically what you are saying is that it is in fact in someway related to Halo 3’s “True Skill” system? So we have the Rank that is shown to the world i.e Recruit, Captain etc… and then what I can guess would be the “invisible number” that is assigned to each player when ever they do well… Ala Halo 3’s “Ranked True Skill” Numbers that would go up and down when ever you won or lost a game…
Is this right or am I off the bat here?
I would agree if I felt that Reach’s invisible rank put me in fair games most of the time.
People definatley need to chill out about this. It’s kind of halarious that so many people have their -Yoink!- in a bunch over this.
Not being able to see everyone’s rank is not a big deal. Seeing your own should be satisfying enough.
To all the losers that are upset because they can’t show off their rank and rub it in everyone’s face, get over it. I’ve personally neither been impressed nor intimidated by anyone’s “rank” because I’ve smashed on inheritors and “50s” countless times. My point is seeing someone’s rank does not tell you how skilled they are.
What’s important about a rank system is that it does it’s job in matching people that around the same skill level so matches are competitive. Hopefully it will achieve this. When it comes down to it, that’s really all that matters.
SO CHILL THE -YOINK- OUT!!

you are just a little bit off, but you get the idea. The visible ranking system is what allows the casuals and competitive players alike to advance in ranks at their own pace, but the hidden “true skill” system is what is to be used to match up players of similar skill (I.E. people that aren’t as good or are casuals get matched up with poor skill and casuals, while competitive highly skilled players get paired with the competitive and highly skilled, and of course every where in between)

I am aware of the unfairness in reach’s random match making. But this is what 343i is trying to fix with the hidden ranking system. here’s hoping that it works!
> I would agree if I felt that Reach’s invisible rank put me in fair games most of the time.
Reach didn’t have a invisible rank/true skill hence the reason I keep getting matched up with lesser skilled players.
Well done Op I had this thought but no way could I have put into words.

Reach did use Trueskill.

Actually reaches “true skill” if you payed attention during the game, would give you credits based on kills depending on how you got the kill and how well you executed that kill, and that was added to your total credit reception at post-game, it in no way worked the way it should have.

Thank you for the kind words.

That’s incorrect. You got a set number of credits for actions that build up commendations. You got no bonus for performing well, you got one for performing at all.

well either way, the “trueskill” system for reach in no way worked.

Uhhhh what?

Low self-esteem over a video game? Sorry bud, but it seems it’s the other way around. You seem to need some sort of confirmation from other players that you’re good at a video game, which is nothing short of pathetic.
> OR… You can just be smart make every single player happy give us back our ranks and let us see them and for all the people who can’t handle being awful at the game and don’t want to play the campaign but MM cuz they love to lose and they have low self esteem because they suck so bad and where ever some
That was incredibly rude! I am going to have to ask you to leave this forum now, everyone has different opinions on gaming style, some people just simply play games to relax and don’t care weather they win or lose. its not because they cant face the fact that they aren’t good. it is because to them a game is just that, a game, and they don’t want the hassle of being super competitive and having people rub in their face that they aren’t as good as everyone else, when in reality they probably aren’t even trying to be good. so please don’t bash on the people that enjoy playing a game for the sake of having fun.
Yes but the game will lose a significant chunk of its population because of this, as trilogy vets will feel there is no incentive in the game.
These days, most people play games online to earn a rank that is displayed to all.
Many left Reach because rank was meaningless, and in Halo 4’s case, may as well be nonexistent.
Also, if you yourself can see your own rank, how is that stopping people from bragging about it? Once people know the ranks, they’ll still attempt to exploit the system for personal gain.
