First six’s lore this is what I think. They don’t say too much about his learn for this reason. The character costomization is quite good you can change the gender,voice,and weapon. I think this has to do with six’s lore. They don’t say his/her’s lore to much because you are six he isn’t some character made by bungee but by you he doesn’t speak that much so you can answer. YOU are six. That is what I think. Now if he’s alive. At the endof the game he is fighting elites and it doesn’t show the last elite. I think that was the arbiter and six killed him. That’s why arbiter we know from the games with master chief became arbiter because six killed him. At the beginning of the game it shows six’s helmet and not his body because he/she is still alive.

I believe the Arbiter before the final Arbiter was the one in Halo Wars. It was described in H2 as a position held in times of great need, so not a “welp, now we need a new one” situation. (The ultimate failure of the assault on Reach, I.E. loss of the artifact Halsey found, followed by the destruction of Halo 04, was what led to such a desperate need for the current Arbiter.)
B312’s killer was an ordinary Zealot, and mostly just got a lucky hit after Six was overwhelmed. That final fight alone shows an impressive kill ratio.

thats why i don’t really consider expanded universes as canon for me.
not everybody knows about it.
the games should be able to stand on it’s own
it sometimes “destroys” a character for you, because you imagined him diferently (which in halo reachs case noble 6 could have been really anybody you wanted him/her to be)
don’t get me wrong. thats just my personal thing and it’s totally fine with me if you like the expanded universe (and i admit that it can be awesome), but to me the games stand on their own
