I wanted to know how long it takes to train a basic, new Spartan IV?
I know that some come from the SIII program and would need little new training, others from the ODSTs might need more, but what about the rest of the adult volunteers?
I ask this because in Spartan Ops, Spartan Thorne tells Halsey that he was in the Army but joined the Spartans because of the New Phoenix incident 6 months ago.
That would mean that in 6 months Thorne was able to volunteer, be selected, get augmented, get suited up, train the “Spartan” way, and all the other things that would be expected of a combat ready Spartan IV. Not to mention board the Infinity before she even left for Requiem.
Today it takes roughly 2 years to train a Recon Marine and put them through a basic pipeline. So am I to believe that an above average soldier can become a Spartan in less than 6 months?
It seems like there would be a vast quality difference among the SIVs depending on each one’s background if this was the case.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks.
Unfortunately, very little information has been given about the Spartan-IVs.
Because most candidates are chosen because of their exceptional performances, and they usually come from other special warfare units, perhaps only a few months of training is needed. All of that time in War Games simulators and other such facilities would seem to be enough.
Like you said though, it may depend on each individual’s background.
Don’t know details, but people like Thorne were documented for doing incredible feats as a “regular” human, so most of the IV’s consist of people who lived theu the recent war and did extremely well as a “regular” human etc.
Thorne was in the army s year before new phoenix incident. He joined the Spartan program in between. He would have been composed had he not joined the Spartan program. Woah, my fingers went purple or something it seems.

Should we be alarmed? 0.o
Spartan III’s are fine, when will people understand that Gamma company was the best yet? (Wheres my backup Luke Del? lol)
And you have to remember not all the IV’s got in because of their skills. Some like that guy who wears recon in SpOps, only got in because of family recommendation…
Not helping me like the IV’s much again…

Yo, I got your back haha.
Yeah the Spartan IIIs won’t need any extra training. Their integration likely consists of becoming used to the Mjolnir armour and then fighting alongside the Spartan IVs. They don’t become Spartan IVs and as such, they aren’t trained as Spartan IVs. By “Integration” into the Spartan IV program I assume the Spartan IIIs are just transferred from Army command and placed under the command of the SPARTAN branch to supplement the numbers of the Spartan IVs.
Yeah, I liked Madsen up until I discovered that fact. DeMarco however was an ODST, as was Hoya. Hoya actually managed to escape covenant capture and rescue a dozen naval officers; that’s pretty impressive and that was before he even became a Spartan. Although not an ODST, Grant was chosen to test early versions of the Mjolnir Gen 2 system due to her exceptional athletic and combat skills, which once again, is impressive.

I wouldn’t say Gamma is the best, but whatever.
Madsen is the only one confirmed to get in the program only because of nepotism.

Kurt-051 would. In fact he did say that, he described them as the “Finest Spartans ever”.

The fact that they need medications to stay sane doesn’t make them the best to me. And what makes them superior from the other IIIs, besides perhaps slightly better training?
The IVs are the best class of Spartans to me.

They don’t need medication to stay sane, their augmentations included illegal drugs that increased aggression, strength, endurance and tolerance to pain. As such, they were lethal soldiers with extremely high levels of pain tolerance that allowed them to continue fighting, even with grievous injuries. Dante-G188 managed to carry on fighting alongside his other Spartans despite having his side blown open by needler rounds, revealing his rib cage. The oldest Dante could have been was 15. The other Gamma company Spartans were able to keep up with the Spartan IIs and Beta company Spartans despite being 12-15 years old at the time. They also had increased strength and endurance, more so than previous generations of Spartans. They’d probably be stronger than the Spartan IIs were at their age. Their augmentations also included other drugs that counteracted any potential negative side effects of these illegal drugs, and I’m assuming these drugs are the “medication” you mentioned. As far as I know, they don’t have to take medication on a regular basis however, it was just a one-time thing as part of their augmentations.
They’re better because their training was ramped up. the Alpha company Spartans had better training than the IIs, the Betas had better training than the Alphas, and then the Gammas training was improved even more, not to mention they were also trained by two Beta company Spartans as well as Kurt and Mendez. Their extra augmentations also give them an extra edge. It’s also possible that Gamma company was comprised of finer candidates as well.
I’m glad someone likes the IVs. I really like the IVs myself, but I don’t believe them to be as good as the IIs or IIIs. They’re close though.

I believe it was mentioned in Goasslands that the Gammas need to continuously take the medication. That was one of their concerns while stranded.
The IVs are just the downright best in my opinion. To each his own I guess.
Spartan IV’s the best?
The SIV’s talk about things like girls and money, while the SII’s and SIII’s talk about killing the enemy and ending the war!

Fair enough, I haven’t read Glasslands yet, just read up on the story a little bit. Even if they did need meds to tone down their aggression, it wouldn’t affect them as soldiers. Even if they couldn’t take their meds, I imagine they’d just be slightly more rash and aggressive. It doesn’t make them any weaker, or any less combat effective just because they need meds.

You’re biasing your opinion of the whole program based on a few individuals.
In the long run, the IV’s look promising to be the overall most effective due to high numbers with new recruits to come as well. I enjoy the IV’s, mostly.
I remember another generation that had high numbers but got WAY better training and ended up all dead. If they had given all 300 Spartan III personal of alpha or any other generation MJOLNIR, then this war would have been done ALONG time ago.
But I guess they couldn’t live with themselves if Ash or Tom ended up being the leading Heros instead of John.
And I don’t want to absentmindedly bash on the IV’s. It’s just, the FIRST group of IV’s we see act like arrogant fools, then they have a backstory like madsen!? Comeon 343!
(P.S thanks luke, I wonder what generation you’d have been. I like to think my spartan a gamma who was in those cryo tubes on onyx)
Even though the Spartan IV’s have less training time than the previous generation, they still have a huge advantage over the II’s and III’s; the wargames simulator. The simulator is superior, to any form of training that the II’s and III’s could of have. Not to mention that they are constantly using it while not on missions; so they’re always improving.
Wargames won’t kill you, Actual field experience is what made the II’s and III’s so great.

The Spartan-IV Program has several advantages over the others:
-
It is less controversial than the previous programs due the volunteering of candidates instead of conscription.
-
New recruits are more readily available.
-
Advances in augmentation technology eliminate the need for strict genetic requirements. Also leads to higher numbers of candidates.
