“we aren’t talking about anything *Halo Infinite-*related like I know you’re hoping for”

Just putting it out there, that I keep getting disappointed by this. It’s been three years since H5. Not an iota of info about post H5 cliffhanger. Bad Blood touched on it as delicately as it could, and HW2 was out of the loop, but the entire Halo franchise changed when Cortana went rouge and the Created began their rule. I know people are asking, probably daily for some drip, but its getting to be a little much. “We know, we know, we know.” is getting super old, as am I.

I’m not a developer, but I have seen the cadence for content related to releases be much more open. I’ve seen them be much more closed as well, but Halo used to have ARG meta games, concept art tidbits, and philosophical discussions about the direction of the game, but now it feels like halo is adrift lost beyond any contact point. Just posting a message to see if anyone else feels the way i do about this.

HCS and the constant posts here about “this specific thing is terrible/amazing!” aren’t keeping me engaged in Halo. The story is. The books are. The games are. But since H5 cliffhanger stopped the show, there has been no forward momentum for me.

This is an ask to 343: Please post some info about post H5.

All the hype and momentum for Halo I thought would begin at E3 this year turned into disappointment for me. Fans had every reason to expect a blowout of Halo news given that Halo has been on a 3 year development cycle since forever. We got no news at E3 in 2017. I though at the very least, if Halo Infinite wasn’t releasing this year, there would be a blowout of information and the announcement of a beta for next year. Instead we got a short game-engine clip… I know a lot of people were excited about the game engine reveal, but I was sorely let down. I suppose my expectations were too much. We know absolutely nothing about Infinite other than it has a new engine, and we are about to go into year four since Halo 5’s release. I think 343 or MS could have handled things a lot better. We’ll probably learn about the whole development process behind Infinite several years after it releases, so think 2022 or 2023 lol.

Considering they are making a new engine, they will have to take their time and release will be in 2020 most likely. This early on in the cycle, they aren’t going to release much info at all. I do agree that 343 should be more interactive and creative with the release of info related to the world of Halo Infinite, just as Bungie was. Philosophical discussion of the nature of the direction they are taking with the story is an exemplary example of such interactivity, as you pointed out.

I remember they slowly released some Concept art, which others and I correctly identified as sanghelios. The art style lined up perfectly with the description from the EU. Now we have a totally new art style, which I think is great, but we got nothing else to go off. We know the state of the universe is boned, but the teaser make no illusions to what is going on. It was just a vertical slice of the engine, which they discussed nothing about. I member when they would talk about water physics and skybox like it was a Ted talk. I just want a little bit more connectivity between the artist of the game and the community, instead of HCS Bro downs every week. Art and story is the backbone of Halo.

I’m not every miffed about the dev cycle. They can take as long as they need. I’m just reminiscing about the communication about upcoming titles. Used to be that the artists and team members were highlighted and discussed the aspects of the game they got to tailor. Your get concept art, discussions about physics, philosophies about gameplay. Now it seems like they took all the devs and put they in a quarantine, and made HCS they only point of contact for 343 and the community. Fireteam Raven was cool, the books have been good, but they are all in the past of Halo. No forward momentum to be seen. Just makes me sad.

I’m glad they’re being cautious. Early on in this generation Microsoft has jumped the shark on announcement related stuff, they have stated they want to be more secretive and careful about what they reveal and when. I want 343i to take their time with Infinite and I’m happy they aren’t just spilling a bunch of info just to satisfy people. They can reveal things when they are ready and want to in my opinion. With that said though, some concept art would be nice lol

back before halo 2 came out, there was concept art of elites climbing on walls in the city of new Mombasa, like they were nimble wall crawlers, but it never made it into the game. That was dope, along with the concept art of the elite shields, that haven’t made an appearance. I understand being cautious, but all this art that is created for the game doesn’t mean it will be in the final product, which people who have been a part of the community know. It’s completely fine to show some in progress stuff that doesn’t go into the product. I don’t think they feel that way though. From a business stand point they don’t want it to effect sales, from a community stand point though, they just nixed all communication from the artists to the people who appreciate that content that will never see the light of day. IMO.

clearly they deserve all the time in the world. h4 and h5, imo, were the best story pushers in the franchise. Just watching the level of acting chops between games, shows you how much effort goes into Halo from 343. H3 is cringe as Blam when you go and watch the cutscenes again. (H3 ODST was the best acting in any bungie property).

I actually would not like seeing something like that elite climbing concept art only to find it’s not in the game. Maybe years after the fact but I don’t like hearing or seeing things that are really cool that don’t end up working out, just disappoints me lol When we get art I like to know it’ll actually be in the game.

I’m like the complete opposite. When I read the books and heard about the engineers, I was stoked as blam. The concept of engineers didn’t come back into play until much later in the franchise, but it still filled out the universe. The Yonhet from pre-H5 never made it into H5, but it was still cool, IMO to see content from beyond the central storyline. The cool thing about thoseoments is they took place after the main title game, filling out the universe into the future, not the past, like 90% of the content out of 343 at present. (Of course it’s gonna change as we get closer to launch, but I’m saying that those moments, for me, were amazeballs.)

I agree that 343 should take as much time as necessary to do Infinite right. I also agree that 343 could do a little better with not keeping fans in the dark. Maybe I’m alone, but i don’t get excited anymore about Halo 5 updates. I just don’t. Regarding Infinite, I know MS doesn’t want to do release dates so far in advance, but 343 could give us other bits of information.

I’m with you on releasing art and stuff even if it doesn’t make it in. at least that way they can see how the community reacts and decide if they need to alter it, toss it, or keep it

Agreed, I can’t really get into HCS. It feels like all the focus has gone into turning profits and there’s not focus on story or developing halo into a more modern shooter.

I agree that Halo should remain set in it’s roots, but also needs to evolve in order to stay relevant. 343i will never be Bungie, they don’t have to listen to fans and the last two games is a pretty good indication of them not doing that.

343i has seemingly shut it’s doors to the community, where’s a ViDoc from the development team or the studio at large? All I see is HCS rammed down my throat and “top 5” videos. The emotion of the game, that rush in multiplayer is gone.

Everyone is screaming “go back” and they’ve only teased that possibility, but should we?

I don’t agree that 343 hasn’t listened to the community. I took the surveys, and they seemed to between 4 and 5, really listen to the community. H5 multiplayer is, IMO, the best halo multiplayer (Sans spartan charge) in the history of the franchise. majorly better than destiny MP has ever been. The story is also much better. Art direction and acting is on par with any good movie these days. I’m just saying this lull between 5 and 6 is pretty big and there has been zero future talk between H5, which changed the entire franchise direction, and now. would love to see some vidocs again or books placed after the created rebellion. I think the new art direction makes sense, since the 4 and 5 direction seemed to be going in the direction of

You have a fair point and I do enjoy Halo 5 multiplayer.

The Surveys I’ve taken myself, I guess what’s more bothersome to me is the lack of follow up advice on that. There’s been a little and MCC is finally where it should be thanks to that, but I’d definitely like to hear more from 343i.

The lul between games has been long, granted. But I think we the community definitely want to hear more from them. More then a solitary weekly blog post with little to nothing to go on.

Do a ViDoc, show us how the teams going and tease your work a little. That’s the one thing I miss from the Bungie Days of Halo.

Totally agree. The weekly updates are more like disappointment trains for me. lol. Each week, I’m like man they keep saying, they know we want some info, but NO. lol. kinda hurts each week. then the title for this weeks was like, we are totally aware, but its like they are a bus driver totally aware that they are about to run over and old lady (the representation of my long drawn out and bored hopes), but they decide to just run the old lady over anyway. They keep beating the dead horse. It’s I shouldn’t even be turning up for halo info on the site anymore, and I’ve been here (343/bungie forums) since the OG days of HCE forums. Halo Infinite looks to be a great direction, which is a bummer each week, cause there’s been nothing but a small vertical slice video of the engine.
